  sometimes i can read the posts of the witnesses over on bible discussion forum.. and sometimes if i didn't learn how not to i would be gnashing my teeth.. i can't post over there.

  Actually, they do call themselves the Governing Body.

  They just cannot bring themselves to also call themselves the Faithful and Discrete Slave. They do not seem to know who the F&DS really is any more. -James_woods

  Yes, what I meant to say was, given the average JW always thanks the FDS in prayers and such for providing spiritual food, it is really the GB they are thanking. The other anointed don't ever come into play in the minds of a JW. The FDS is for all intents and purposes the GB, but when asked, JW's will defer and say the GB are merely representatives. The discussion went on for a couple of pages, but here is the end result.

  It works quite well. If factory workers only work machines that provide packaging or drive trucks, they are part of the food providing and distribution mechanism. The rest of the Slave do provide food. I provided scriptures. -eloquens

  Can you tell us how a poor old anointed sister in BFE congregation is directly involved in the food "providing and distribution mechanism"?

  If it is through giving parts at the meetings or her share in the field ministry, maybe you can explain how she is any different from the "other sheep" who cannot be part of the faithful and discreet slave class but ironically can be faithful and discreet slaves? -Truthwillset

  It's all down to Jehovah's choosing as to who will be a member of the slave class. It's also Jehovah who chooses his channel of communication and how it is arranged. It's called Theocratic Order. We follow and obey his direction. -eloquens

  having read both of ray franz' books and more recently 'the gentile times reconsidered' by c. o jonsson you'd be forgiven for believing that losing the 607 b.c.e date for the destruction of jerusalem would end in disaster for the society.

  sorry but i just don't think so.. i'm sure many of the long-time witnesses who know the history of the society would truly have problems but most of the dubs just don't care!

  think about it, remember all those dubs you used to hang out with.

  Nicolaou, I think your absolutley right. The WT and Protestant groups attacked the Catholic Magisterium doctrine, yet the WT has been enforcing Magisterium, albeit veiled, all along.

  If the Society stops trying to justify its authority through flawed and logically-contorted chronology, and just simply makes the claim that it is God's organization (as it has already been doing), I think the majority already in it will go along with it and welcome the disposal of difficult chronology. The main problem (aside from the number who would be stumbled by the change) is that for new converts there would not be any claimed biblical basis for their claimed authority, and so it might be a little more difficult to convince them. -Leolaia

  I agree with this as well, except I think that given that JW's now number 7.5 million, they can now use the argument (as was used on me) that numbers don't lie. 7.5 millions JW's can't be wrong! They don't need to prove dates. The WT has been 'faithfully' providing food for 130+ years, and that qualifies them to be the FDS. The WT has taught no hellfire, no trinity, etc. for about the same length of time, and that qualifies them to be the FDS. Ad nauseum.

  As the above have stated, your basically already sentenced. The only difference you can make now is if you decide to go out with a bang and try to open their eyes, or quietly avoid them and end up DF in absentia.

  I'm sorry to hear about this, I wonder how they brought up this charge? Maybe through friends/relatives? Someone must've outed you.

  N.drew, I participate in the "Discuss Jehovah's Witnesses" over at Beliefnet.

  It's frustrating as all get out to get them to admit their doctrines have no basis, but I believe these discussions are important for lurkers, because they can see the mentality of a JW defending the undefendable. I personally am thankful for this, for it helped me open my eyes in what is an honest, open discussion.

  I dared not come here first, so beliefnet and jwfacts were the stepping stones for me.
