greetings, thesheppard!.
i recently saw your post on this thread about your experiences in bethel with the gb members.. you finished your experiences with this:.
anyways, for what it's worth, those are the experiences i personally had.
An obvious mispelling.
Alas, I haven't seen him on here recently, so this might just be a waste of time....
funny the way our minds unwind and refocus after leaving a high control religion.. when i first left the jdubs i saw them more closely to what the entire world sees them i suppose, but not truly clearly at those early stages.
they still looked to me to be 'good people' but misguided.
as time went on, though the misguided feature remained, the 'good people' supposition faded.
WTWizard, you have some strange beliefs...
i posted on manki's crisis of conscience thread the following, and decided it deserves a thread of it's own (giving it was completely ignored, lol).
i'll give you a head start, manky.. http://tearsofoberon.blogspot.com/2009/10/mexico-military-and-jwsthe-truth.html.
under the subheading 6.0 lies and exaggerations, he goes on to say this:.
Also, thank you dgp for that extra info.
I'm going to link those sites, for easy access.
Here is a link to the actual text of the Act, enacted in 1942:
http://www.sedena.gob.mx/pdf/leyes/ley_smn.pdf
These are the regulations (1942 as well)
http://www.sedena.gob.mx/pdf/reglamentos/rglmto_ley_smn.pdf
(Find Article 38 and you'll see)
This document also discusses military service in Mexico:
http://catarina.udlap.mx/u_dl_a/tales/documentos/ledi/santos_g_d/capitulo4.pdf
All I needed to do was Google "ley del servicio militar nacional". These are publicly available documents.
I believe the article in the link most regretfully omits the fact that "religious ministers" were always able to get exemption from military service, with nothing but a formal statement of their church's authorities identifying them as such.
i came across this on another discussion board and thought i'd share .

Thank you so much for this poopsiecakes, I had been looking for something like this for a long time.
However, how do scientists accurately reach dates? Any info on that? I would greatly appreciate it.

this is my new book on my to read list.
has anyone read it or heard of it.
Good read. Yes, men gossip as well. It's a way to get to know about an event, without asking directly (sometimes asking directly offends).
And Blondie, we like to read your WT comments, but anything else is welcome too
Thank you.
i have family members who are still jws, many of you do as well.
assuming your folks are similar to mine, they are, for the most part, rational.
they are jws because they believe and they have a tremendous amount of scriptural knowledge, albeit of wts origins and with the expected bias.. if i chose to demonstrate, to my father particularly, the inconsistencies in wts ideology... he might just decide to leave.
I suppose it's all about perspective.
What might be "restrictive" to some, means "protection" for others.
What activities we might drudge in, they might delight.
Freedom is the right to make choices, and they've made their choice. They want in. That's their whole life. They have personally benefited from being in. So, who am I to take that from them?
At the very least, I would like them to acknowledge the inconsitencies within their religion, and not try to run from reality. If they still want to continue after that, that's their problem.
in george orwell's novel 'nineteen eighty-four' the capitulation of the principal protagonist is portrayed in his willingness to assent to the proposition that two and two make five.
once he had denied objective reality, his mental conquest was complete and he was no longer truly the master of his own mind.
nineteen eighty-four is in many ways, a very depressing read.. a charge commonly leveled at jehovah's witnesses is that the type of mind control envisioned by orwell has been and continues to be used on them.
This links rather nicely, as well.

Greetings, TheSheppard!
I recently saw your post on this thread about your experiences in Bethel with the GB members.
You finished your experiences with this:
Anyways, for what it's worth, those are the experiences I personally had. I had a chance to sit and talk with Swingle, Klein, Schroeder and Splane on separate occassions. I'll share those experiences at a later time.
If possible, could you share some more with us? I am certainly interested in what you have to say. I like to look at both sides of the argument. You are free to post your experiences to your heart's content.
Regards,

Thank you, all for your colaborating research. I suppose I wanted to investigate any possible faultiness, but what happened, happened. I don't know what it is, but I find it irresistible to refute apologists, and he (Teary Oberon and Third Witness), seemed to have a good argument going.
WTS has double standards, plain and simple!
A special thank you to Bucholz for sharing that with us.
00DAD, I read your thread, and both LeavingWT and The Sheppard offer eye-witness testimony that they indeed saw members of the GB preaching. Whether they went D2D, seems irrelevant to me. The issue you seemed to have with them were that they were "too busy" to handle mundane JW activities, such as preaching. Yet they did.
Even if they didn't D2D, you couldn't exactly say they weren't setting an example. Just saying
if so, did you take a class, use a program, and how long or how many hours of study/learning would it realistically take to be able to read the bible in hebrew from when you begin to learn?
.
i am trying to decide if it's something i want to pursue since bible translations and even interlinears seem to cloud out some key messages and phrases.
I second that thought. Go with Greek. Seems less of a pain to me. Hebrew reads right to left!
