Do the Governing Body members ever go Door-to-Door?
by 00DAD inin his book, in search of christian freedom, ray franz wrote that that gb members for the most part never participated in door-to-door work.
they were "too busy with more important things.
" (gee, how come that excuse wouldn't work for the rest of us?

Anyways, for what it's worth, those are the experiences I personally had. I had a chance to sit and talk with Swingle, Klein, Schroeder and Splane on separate occassions. I'll share those experiences at a later time. -TheSheppard
Since I see you posting again, I thought I'd bump this for you. Would you care to share?

Mockery and ridicule:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/221710/1/I-cant-believe-it-but-a-kid-got-marked-for-having-worldy-friends
I was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I'm 38. In that time frame, I've never heard of something this absurd from the podium at a Kingdom Hall so I questioned it. I asked the author of the opening post what congregation this took place in. He or she would not say. -CelestialI'll take the risk.
You have a PM.

Goodbye, everyone.
by Chemical Emotions insome of you were really nice.
some of you were really mean to me, and at this point in my life i can't handle such meanness.
i thought this would be my one place to truly express my feelings without too much mocking or insults from people who i thought were nicer, but i was wrong.

Chemical, don't worry about those that hurt you, rejoice in those that help you.

I can't believe it, but a kid got marked for having worldy friends.
by Knowsnothing init's true.
last night, a kid got marked for having worldy friends.
the usual no friendship with the world texts made its way in.

What congregation was it? -Celestial
Sorry, I won't say. Since I'm in a bit of a bind. You understand.
That is so sad! How old is the child? -Ruderedhead
In his early teens, I'd say.
Make up a little flyer, and get it into the hands of this kid somehow. -NewChapter
That'd be suicide. Given my DA'ed status, I'm being watched like a hawk. I think he will figure it out on his own.
It's disgusting that these talks occur and that ANY " marking " is done. I bet the young man or woman who was " marked " was not an elders son or daughter though. There is a definite double standard in regards to " marking " someone for bad association. -flipper
You nailed it. I've seen the double standard so many times, its ridiculous. I think what irked the elders was that they gave him offical elder advice on leaving his worldy friends. So, they can't have anyone challenge their authority. The elder even went on to say, "Well, someone might see it as a personal matter. After all, one might reason, 'It's my life and I get to choose my friends', but this is not so!"
This PO seems nice at first, but he's as uber elder as it gets.
So tell me KNOWSNOTHING- was this teenager an elders child ? Just curious. -flipper
Not a chance. Just as the typical pattern you said plays out.

It's true. Last night, a kid got marked for having worldy friends. The usual no friendship with the world texts made its way in. The elder repeated several times that the kid had been admonished several times, but refused to listen to the elders' advice. The elder giving the talk in the Local Needs also went to great lengths to emphasize that while this wasn't a DFing offense, it was serious business. I guess they (elders) didn't take too kindly being brushed aside. It almost sounded like he wanted the kid to get DF'ed. He almost had a sad, dejected tone about his not get DF'ed.
I still can't believe they can do that. This religion is ridiculous. The way this religion controls its members makes me irate.

Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality
by cedars ini'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?
" of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.
however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

No one member benefits extraordinarily. I think its more about maintaining power. Think 1984 and the Inner Party. They don't live with extreme luxuries, but they live comfortably enough and they maintain control. They (GB) have their futures set for themselves. They also perpetuate the power hold to other generations, although in the case of 1984 to maintain power, in this case to maintain religious orthodoxy from "worldy, Babylonic, Christendom" contamination.

How many of us have Higher Learning, and still mop floors
by Quarterback insomeone who works at a college locally, pointed out to me that one of their scholar students was stocking shelves at a dollar store.. with this recession, are you finding that higher learning is wasting time?
.
i know that it's necessary to become a dr. or a lawyer, but, with the shortage of work, even teachers are working as secretarys.. what do you think?.

But, after fixing the world, and receiving the Nobel Peace prize..what can you do after that? How much do you get for winning that?
If you made a difference in the world, and you know your life on this earth is a blink of an eye, can't you leave at peace knowing the immense impact your work had?
Again, it's not what you get, monetarily speaking. Why all the preoccupation about making absurd amounts of cash? Do you think that is the vehicle to happiness?

myusername - yes it is an interesting observation. Many on this forum have long claimed that Jehovah's Witnesses are primarily a publishing company, and the religious element comes a poor second. The fact that we see corporate tactics employed to oust undesirable employees should come as no surprise. -Cedars
The Theocratic Ministry School and Service Meeting should be renamed the Sales Technique Meeting. Honestly, I cringe when I have to sit through "demonstrations."

Higher learning and responsible adults are the way of the future. They are the ones that are ultimately gonna have to figure how to fix the world, if possible. At least patch it up as best they can. Maybe find a really good renewable source of energy or something.
Higher learning shouldn't just be about making money. It should be about making a real difference, IMO.
