Left this crackpot cult a long time ago. Never regretted the decision to do so. Grateful that I didn't waste my entire life in the process.

Wasting Time In The Ministry--How Did You Do It??
by minimus ini know of a couple of elders that regularly went out in the ministry throughout the week.
no matter which street they were on, they always seemed to be near the same spot.
someone here talked about the michael jackson moonwalk.

It was always time well spent for me. Get weather report night before, show up early at KH, hook up with friend, leave together for "RV's" and study appointments. Stop off at liquor store, get six-pack, head to beach. Check out the babes, work on tan, and marvel at how great life outside the Borg must be. On the way back, dump some mags at first available laundromat, and record time and placements. Fitting compensation for an unpaid salesman of the Borg.

As a kid how did you survive the meetings?
by Parousia inrecently my brother, sister, and i talked for the first time about how we survived the meetings when we were kids.
i loved hearing their stories.. i had a whole imaginary world i went into.
once the songs were over and the talk started, i would focus on the speaker to look like i was listening and then zone out.

I listened to ball games on my transistor radio. It was in my pocket, and I discreetly snaked the tiny earphone cord up my shirt, and into my right (hidden from view) ear. This worked well for a long time. I never got caught. Of course, during the "seven inning stretch" was a good time to offer my obligatory comment during the Watchtower study.

As a Dub, did you neglect your health?
by JH in.
when you were an active jw, did you neglect your health because the end was just around the corner.. many witnesses never went to see a doctor for a check up, because they actually believed that the end was a few months away.
we all know that sicknesses are cured if treated early, but you have to see the doctor on a regular basis for that.. did you neglect your health when you were a jw because you felt that the end was too close?

I never did. But of course, the time I spent as a Dub was during my youth, and I never worried about my health. But I've seen many older Dubs neglect their health, albeit benignly. Mostly because many were self-employed in menial low-paying jobs where health insurance was a luxury few could afford, and preventative medical check-ups were never performed. I still remember comments like these; "Yeah, I know my teeth are shot, but in the new world I'll have perfect teeth, along with everything else". Goes to everything else the rank and file sacrificed in their lives, believing they were part of the "generation that will my no means pass away".

...Donations to the "worldwide work"? What could that possibly be? I'd love to know what percentage of the Borg's massive fortune actually does go to this alleged activity.

"JUST A MIRAGE", by Tommy James & The Shondells, circa 1967.
The title of this ditty sums it up quite nicely.

Did being a JW stifle your ambition?
by ballistic indid being a jw stifle your ambition?
did not needing to plan for the future affect your career choices and your consequent wealth?.
i'm not simply talking about following the advice to not take up an education which has been discused many times, but i'm going further to say that those brought up in "the truth" had their whole philosophy moulded and shaped in a way which never searched for more or wanted more; a non-materialistic outlook.. now some may still say materialism is evil, or that being brought up this way leads to a more content life.. the cynics, like myself, will say that keeping people 'happy but poor' is the genius of the rich.. i've had some success after leaving the org, after taking up education and so on, but it has taken time.

Here's a beauty from the Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1965 issue in the article entitled "Weighing Wedlock in These Last Days" on page 565, chapter 20: "What a time this is for joyful service to Jehovah! God's kingdom rules! The end of this system of things will occur in our very own generation! "The time left is reduced".
Marriage, and everything else, was strongly discouraged given the importance of pioneering, and the urgency of the times.
There you have it. The cornerstone doctrinal teaching that ruined so many of our lives. Of course, now there's new "light"! When are they ever going to wake up???

HOW MANY JW KIDS LIKE SATURDAYS
by calamityjane in.
think about it.. we were the only kids that hated weekends, all the other kids got to stay at home and watch cartoons, we had to pound the pavement and get up early sunday for the boring meetings.. any thoughts.

My weekends were predictably horrific. Regardless of the weather, or temperature, there was Sat. & Sun. field service. No coffee breraks, no interruptions; just get dropped off at a corner, and bang on doors for 3 solid hours. I came to love Friday, as it was the only day of the week where there was nothing scheduled. Imagine, a 10 yr. old kid with only one day a week to have fun. To this day I still love Friday's. I wonder why?

Maybe the William's sisters have negotiated some sort of tithing arrangement with the Borg?
Hey, that kind of serious money makes the WTB&TS, Inc. smile, and look the other way. It's always about the money.
