how do you deal with family members who still cling to the beliefs and yet never attend meetings or assemblies?
my step-parents all but stopped going to the meetings when i was df'd, guess i was too embarassing.
but, they cling to their beliefs.

It does seem strange to me how some JWs who don't "live up" to their name -- can turn around and castigate another for...not "living up" to the name. I mean, what do they say? "You should go back to the meetings"?

i once spent some time living in a womens refuge with my four children escaping from the domestic violence and emotional abuse that my husband deemed to be appropriate to bestow upon us.
apparently he had the blessing of my congregation to do so.

I think I must just be misreading/misunderstanding Baysixforme's original post. I thought that the elder was aware that he was knocking on the door of a women's shelter. He shouldn't have that knowledge, IMHO. Too compromising of the women's safety.

i don't think i've made any apology for my leanings here towards jws, whilst i don't imagine most here will agree with me, i just think its good sometimes to redress the balance on this forum in a small way to let people who might be reading/lurking/ know that.. despite feeling messed up a bit in my own head about which direction i want/have to take in my own life, and despite many struggles as deep and traumatic as many have experienced here, i still hold jws as a group in the highest esteem.
i can remember what it was like to try and do the "right" thing and follow the way of the truth, it was bloody hard, and i fell down many times.
i always used to try and pick myself up dust myself down and start over again, sometimes with success for longer periods than others.

...I do find it a bit disconcerting that a refuge for battered women isn't a bit more "underground".
Is there a sign on the building, or something like that, identifying it as such?
