Happened to me today. An elder that I had truly loved and admired for many years as a teenager emailed me today to congratulate me on my new position at work (we're connected on LinkedIn). I haven't seen him since the day of my wedding.
Hi GSD,
I saw you're now <big promo at current company> and wanted to say congrats! I hope all is well with you and the family. I know you're looking forward to the Memorial tonight. Here we also have the <foreign language> circuit assembly this weekend in <new assembly hall city>. I know you're probably swamped but I saw your update and got to thinking about you so I thought I'd take this opportunity to get in touch. Please give my love to your parents if you get the opportunity.
With much love, your brother - GhostMakes me sad. I think about him all the time - he was the one elder that made it cool to be a JW kid. All the kids adored him. And it's one of those things - what do you say? You're worlds apart. And I *know* he knows. He's heard the rumors - the entire city I grew up in knows of the fall of the great GSD Family. Of course I'm not looking forward to the memorial - hah, I'm not even going. I wish I could just tell him... but we can't get DFd so... it's that awkward, do you respond, do you play dumb...
*le sigh*

This makes me sad. It stirs old memories, seeing the pictures from the greatest man book and the bible story book... It was a simpler time, if more misguided.

US Entitlement Programs At Glance

the rate is highest in hawaii ($213.65) and lowest in minnesota ($115.98).

So my good people, hear this.
My dad used to be the assembly and convention overseer, so I know the facts.
Do you know why the Org loves assembly halls so much? The place I grew up - we had the circuit assemblies in our town. We were able to rent the facility for $1000 / day plus expenses. Chump change, comparatively. Try this on for size:
Org decides they should build an assembly hall. Three hours away from civilization in all directions. Congregations that used to be able attend locally, or at an assembly hall under an hour away (requiring no overnight stay), are now in the jurisdiction of the new assembly hall. Demands for money started. It took several years longer than budgeted because - shockingly - the money didn't flow.
They finally finished it, with metal folding chairs because they couldn't afford real seats and it was kind of poetic justice to the poor fleeced sheep who didn't give their last penny to the org.
Paid for by the circuits miles around. Built with free labor by men who gave up weekend after weekend with their families. .......... They are now CHARGED .... $15000 per weekend to use the facility. And all those friends have to travel to the middle of nowhere and pay for overnight stays and the bleeping place will be occupied something like 48 weekends out of the year.
Disgusting, shameful, shameless, greedy pharisaical org.

No one who leaves "the truth" is ever happy?
by El_Guapo infor years, i was told this..... " anyone who leaves the org is bitter, sad, and worse off, why do you think they come back???
guess what guys i am the opposite, now i quit cold-turkey (looking back, i should have faded correctly) i am planning on going to the memorial this month just to hear all "the friends" tell me how much they missed me.
since i have left the meetings, (jan. was my last meeting, i think).

As some have noted already, JWs for the most part are *not* truly happy. They live in the shadow of happy and tell themselves they feel the sun, and no one has ever felt such sun. They have to say that and they have to believe that - it's justification of effort (our favorite!!!) again. How could they be ruining their lives if they're unhappy too!?!
Wow - holy cow - if average Joe witness knew how much better a shot of happiness they'd have living a normal life, their retention rate would be even worse than it is now.

Fictious "Universal Sovereignty" Issue Proposed By Watchtower Corporation Is Idiotic
by frankiespeakin inok so a big part of the wt corporation ideological structure is the invention of the issue before all creation being "universal sovereignty".. the story goes like this very basically:.
for untold years jehovah's soverneignty was never challenged, then after so many millions of years jehovahs started his earthly creation with adam&eve being the culmination of that work.
soon afterwards satan seduces eve to disobey jehovah and thus we have the very first act of disobedience satan slanders god by telling eve god is selfish as to the reason he forbids eating this other wise nice looking fruit adam joins his wife in the rebellion.. god in his infinite wisdom allows this rebellion because this was a challenge to his sovereingty and so he is allowing a reasonable amount of time to let mankind and angels see for themselves that his rulership is better that satan's.. so basically it is like a bet he has with satan or who's rulership is best, and he's allowing time to prove his is far superior.. well if you look at it logically it don't add up.. 1. if god is going to allow satan to prove his point about who's rulership is better why is he alway interfereing and interveining that's unfair.. 2. god goes on killing sprees of people man women and chilldren (not very smart for some trying to prove his rulership is better for people to follow.. 3. god show himself to be jealous (not a good trait for a ruler to endear himself to people).. 4. god's scare people to except his ruler ship.. and i have even more reason to show the whole idea is a made up sham..

This is interesting. I never stopped to think that Moses didn't really embrace a concept of Satan so when is a talking snake just a talking snake? In Eden apparently. And then it really is the children of Bacteria analogy...
Hmm.

Temporary Special Pioneer Assignment...?
by goatshapeddemon inmembers of my extended family were recently given a temporary special pioneer assignment as a result of the bible school for christian couples (vomit).. anyone got details on how this works?
why temporary?
is it a testing ground for circuit work or a "we dont want you on our payroll for good so we'll use up what you have to offer and dump you back into reg pio status when this definitely not-cushy assignment is over"?.

More details (learned from family):
1) the borg doesn't pay for the move, even if it's cross country
2) no health insurance ... Don't know what they're going to do with ObamaCare - pay the fine? Go on Medicaid? Hah.
3) that 130hrs per month? Has to be in *your assigned congregation*. If you visit friends congregation, even if you go in service, that time counts as a vacation day and does NOT count toward the 130hr requirement.
Next thing you know, they'll be telling the TSPs to get on food stamps and Medicaid, all paid for by ... That's right... All of us taxpayers. It's a public service afterall.
Sonzabeeches.

She bashed me with the Watchtower then UNFRIENDED me!
by Julia Orwell inall i've done is posted scriptures on my facebook page for discussion.
this uber-jw 'friend' has engaged me in debate, each time cutting and pasting a whole bunch of wt quotes on whatever our topic is, and i've responded with scriptures and she could only answer with another wt quote, and now today i see she's unfriended me!
all her comments are gone too.

This happened to me. Finally I gave up. She unfriended me, and then refriend-requested me. I told her it was only going to happen again, so I thought it would be better if we stayed unfriended on FB. My general approach has been to make the few JW friends I have left on FB unfriend me, but in certain cases it has been better to force the issue. We got accused of apostasy just for saying what the bible said. Unreasoning ding dongs.

The orange juice the was still mostly frozen was my favorite.
hubby says if they brought back the bean burritos, he would acquiesce to return to the convention!
