Why do JWs stay despite doubts & discoveries about JW Beliefs?
by ProfCNJ inif we are going to create a pie chart with the following categories, what could be the main components-reasons and their respective percentages for just staying in the organization in spite of the doubts, discoveries about the jw doctrines/beliefs?
i doubt if the topmost reason is because of love of jehovah god and his son jesus christ.
your inputs dear friends and fellow brothers will be most appreciated.. a. below 40 years old.

payback? bitterly upset....
by losingit ini don't even know where to start.. more than anything, i'd like to say that i am not a woman of vengeance.
i am very much a forgiving person.
if you say "i'm sorry," and you're genuine, i can move on from it quickly and easily.

LosingIt, you're finding freedom. Welcome. I'm sorry for your troubles and hope this site helps you find rest.
Your anger is natural and makes sense. Be careful though - as someone stated above, JWs love a custody battle and have attorneys at bethel who specialize in family court. That's all they do and they're often successful. Anything that comes across as too vindictive or "revenge" may backfire in court as they question your fitness as a parent. The more model a calm, collected parent you can be *without* trying to rejoin the religion, the more credibility you get. Trying to get reinstated only shows the secular courts that you still respect the JW judicial system - something you don't want.

Just wondering...
by molybdenum infor those of you who are "out" forcibly ( disfellowshipped) or voluntarily ( dissasociated) is there anything.
that you actually miss about the witnesses or meetings?.

Sounds crazy, but every now and then I miss the social aspect of service. My last congregation (before we switched congregations to ease the fade) was a truly good one, one of the few.

My JW Experiences and Living in No Mans Land
by wizzstick inlots of proper pioneering (90 hours), lots of calls, lots of studies, lots of interest.
enough to make it all interesting.
driving this buzz was the sense that armageddon was imminent.. my father was never a jw, and was very opposed.

Welcome!
it will be interesting to see how you feel 6-8 months from now. My husband and I started questioning just a few things. Then we felt they had only the fundamental "big" things right. Then we thought, well at least they preach... Eventually, we threw it all out. But it took time. Our hearts - that wanted to believe - needed time to catch up with our heads, which knew it was all crap.

Double standing on higher education
by KSFernando injw discourage higher education through conventions magazine etc.
in kindom ministry 2011 july they considered higher education as date, and use alcohol or drugs.
however if you look at the front page of the brochure "jehovah's witnesseswho are they?

Yes, the double standard is real and sickening. And different parts of the country are more strict about it than others.
As mentoned above, Bethel also chooses to send some through additional training, or makes calls at certain times for certain skill sets that could only have been acquired through some form of higher learning. They're exploitative SOBs. Yet at the same time, they kick people out on their asses for going to college because it shows independent thinking. Like an abusive spouse - on any given day you don't know what's going to set them off.

Cargo cults: scary indictment of human nature
by goatshapeddemon induring wwii, isolated islands full of aboriginal people were suddenly inundated with civilization far advanced from anything they'd ever seen.
to them, it was magic from the gods.
after the soldiers left, the islanders built bamboo planes and control towers and cleared makeshift runways and talked nonsense into coconut headsets.

That's the question...
Ever notice that even very rational people get very irrational on the subject of religion? If I try to set aside my preconceived desire for there to be a real religion, I don't like the answer things like this lead me to.

During WWII, isolated islands full of aboriginal people were suddenly inundated with civilization far advanced from anything they'd ever seen. To them, it was magic from the gods. After the soldiers left, the islanders built bamboo planes and control towers and cleared makeshift runways and talked nonsense into coconut headsets. They marched around with fake guns, all in the belief that these rites would summon the planes carrying the cargo back to the islands. These religions still exist today.
This is scary. We as a "civilized" culture were physically able to watch (cause?) the birth of a religion, born from phenomena the locals weren't capable of understanding, but was in no way magical. You have to wonder ... Talking into a coconut to bring the magic cargo planes back is positively absurd to us... But really, is talking out loud to an empty sky and invoking the name of god or Christ to bring an end to suffering, sickness, war, etc. any different?

Julia gets hit with the Shun Gun for the first time...and it really hurts.
by Julia Orwell inmy jw friend of 20 years, the first one i ever met, the one who got me into jwism in the first place, unfriended me from facebook without explanation.
other jws who have unfriended me at least called me names (apostate) and told me they were unfriending me, but they were no loss.
but someone who's been your friend since you were 13...and no explanation...i'd think 20 years- 20 years!

My "best friend" did that exact same thing to me. Others told me they were unfriending me. She just one day was gone.

How will the WT spin China???
by Freeof1914 ini read an article this morning on how china is quickly reaching even footing with the united states in all aspects; military, economic etc.
the article continued saying how it was imperative that the united states recognize that it would be forced to behave accordingly or risk ddestabilizing the world.
another interesting statement was made that sooner rather than later the u.s. would become the 2nd largest economy falling behind china.

At the district convention a few years ago in their typical "end-mongering", they said that the USA WILL BE the world power when Armageddon come.
Lol, their only way out of that one will be that the Beast that was, but is not, yet will be again wasn't actually the UNited Nations, but rather the United States, hehe.
