Doesn't the Bible tell Christians to listen to God instead of men? If adherence to the sayings of the governing body is one of the criteria used in disfellowshipping, doesn't this go directly against this order from the Bible to listen to God instead of men?

During my first marriage, to a JW, all three of our child births were extremely difficult. The first child I delivered at home because Mother Earth News said that home child birth was "wonderful and beautiful". Liars. My wife lost a lot of blood but the nurse/midwife who was helping me with the delivery said it was not life threatening.
My second child was delivered at a birthing center that was attached to the hospital. Nice home environment with a midwife/nurse to do the delivery. Emergency care was close by. This birth was also very difficult.
My third child was delivered in the emergency surgery area. This was a tough birth and I almost lost both the baby and the mother.
In all of these cases blood could have been used but was not a major issue so the doctors were okay with me rejecting it.
Now, in 2001 I was in Afghanistan. In December I was shot in the heat at Tora Bora. I was unconscious. They gave me blood. There was no option.
My point is this. If the medical procedure can be done without blood, I am okay with that. If it cannot be done without blood then you should use it. I don't see why this is a big issue.

(Please, no JWs come in here to convert me, I don't want to talk to you)
I left the JW religion after twenty years. I had one teenager and two small children then. The teenager was a pioneer. I never discouraged them from going to meetings. I gave them rides to the meetings, I took them to assemblies. Their mother was a JW and went with them sometimes.
None of the children are witnesses any longer. And they are all adults now. But, I feel bad about them leaving the JW religion sometimes. The youngest one goes to college and lives with a family near the school. Nice people. The two older ones totally screwed up their lives, and they don't behave like adults. My father raised me and my siblings to always work hard and make a living and never depend on anyone else. All of my aunts and uncles from my mother's and father's side of the family were raised this way. My oldest children don't want to work, they just want to scam. I just don't get it.
I don't want to discuss this with people who are just going to preach to me.
But, for those of you who had children when you left the JW religion, do you ever feel like this, that it was bad for them to leave also?

Did Jehovah really prove his sovreignty?
by keyser soze inbefore the issue of sovreignty came up between god and satan, humans were in a perfect state.
then adam and eve sinned, and satan challenged god's right to rule.
god took satan up, and allowed humans a chance to prove that they could govern themselves, independent from him.. but first he inflicted them with sickness, death and imperfection.

lovelylil,
"For those who believe the bible, the answer would be yes, mankind will always fail if they live a life independent of God. Would it matter if they were perfect? Well, outside of God, man can never BE perfect."
This is just your opinion, the Bible does not say this. This is a nice cop out. Adam and Eve were created perfect. If they wanted a life without influence of "God", they can only have it by choosing death. Nice. Only a lunatic would set up such a contract. No parent would do this. "Oh, son, daughter, if you want to live away from me, you have to die". This is total insanity.
Then you claimed:
"Adam and Eve's "perfection" or "sinless nature" was DUE to their total dependence on the creator. When they sinned, they lost this state of Grace for themselves and all mankind. Since noone can be perfect outside of God, the answer remains the same."
Prove it. Where does the Bible say this?
The garden of Eden story is simple to understand:
1. God creates His children.
2. An extremely old, extremely knowledgeable creature, Satan the Devil, enters into a contest with God, which God accepts, claiming that he can trick the human children into rejecting God.
3. God does not warn his children that the extremely knowledgable adult creature is going to be playing some tricks on the children, he just watches.
4. Satan tricks the children. Gee, what a surprise.
5. God punishes ALL HUMANS with loss of life, otherwise they could have had everlasting life, because Satan was able to trick the children while God sat back and watched. This is completely insane. Only an evil creature would permit such a thing to happen. I am going to sit around and watch while my infantile children are tricked by an ancient genius? Then I am going to punish them for being tricked?
Hogwash. No parent would do this.

Water Canopy? Huh?
by Mr. Falcon in*** w80 11/15 p. 23 par.
4 jehovah of armies to the rescue!
the fact that today we do not have a vast water canopy suspended high up in space and all around our globe and thus blocking direct sunlight, moonlight and starlight is because jehovah saw what was going on down here upon his terrestrial footstool and took action.

You know what makes me REALLY REALLY ANGRY? What I do for a living is figure things out. Companies hire me to tell them what they need to do to increase profits. Or fix their software. Or, any of a number of other questions dealing with how the company is run and how the software should support the company. I'm good at this or big companies would not hire me.
And yet, I believed all the stupid bullshit that the WTBTS liars told me for TWENTY YEARS. AAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
It is like I turned my brain off before talking to those liars.

he could do that and some people would fall in line and others wouldn't.. if i was god, that's what i would do.. as a parent, that's what i do with my kids.. i am so tired of all the guesswork..

sabastious,
"Because everytime he talks he's drowned out by millions of others speaking for him."
God talks to you? How does he do that? Does he just speak from the clouds and you can hear this big booming voice? Or, does he call you on the phone? Or send you emails? Or, give you visions and dreams?

headisspinning,
Well, you still did not answer my questions.
Why do you believe in 'God'?
Which 'God'? Even the 'God' referred to in the Bible has many definitions depending on who you listen to. To answer this question you have to tell us who this 'God' is, what qualities he has, what he plans to do, etc.
Regarding 'Jehovah', 'Jehovah' was a war god of pagan societies more ancient than the Hebrews, the Hebrews just took him and put him in their pantheon. Later they changed from the pantheon to the "one god" theory. A read of the Old Testament proves this. The god being talked about in the old testament is a blood thirsty war god. The god being talked about in the New Testament is totally different. So, how did god change so much? Was there a revolution? Did, the old testament war god get overthrown by a new god?

My favorite Bethel experience.
A brother arrives at Bethel on his motorcycle to begin serving at Bethel. He can't find anyplace to park so he parks on the street and starts walking toward the entrance to ask where he should park. One of the governing body has just come out the door so the brother asks this gentleman "I just arrived to start serving at Bethel, where can I park my motorcycle". The governing body member looks really aggravated that this lowly Bethel person is bothering him, and he says "We don't allow motorocycles at Bethel, you have to get rid of it".
The brother says "Oh, you don't allow motorcycles, where does it say that in the Bible". The governing body member gets very agitated and says "I don't know, that is our rule, you have to obey". The brother says "Okay" and gets on his motorcycle and leaves Bethel never to return.
This is by far my favorite Bethel experience. Saved this brother four years of intimidation.
