The Society is Blocking Research On their Web Site
by new boy init seems, you can not research many of the older publications on society's web site anymore.
for the obvious reasons, that they don't want people to go back and read about all the false prophecies, changing guide lines (new light that became old light that became new light once again) and the just plain stupid stuff they have said over the years.
i not quit sure what publications they have blocked.

Something I had never thought about re: the Borg's nonprofit status
by dubstepped ini am actually looking into the possibility of starting my own nonprofit for ex-jws with specific goals and i've learned more about the process.
i was interviewing someone for the podcast that is familiar with nonprofits and she told me something that i had never considered.
maybe everyone else has but i don't remember seeing anything about it here.

Timeslips are nothing to do with charitable status, some charities might record volunteer hours so they can record a “ donation in kind” or similar. Sometimes funders of charities have match funding requirements whereby the recipient charity has to demonstrate that it has raised funding from other sources. As jws don’t take institutional charitable funding then this isn’t an issue.
Jw’s definitely meet the definition of charity (at least in the uk), as they have a remit and objective to educate and publish educational material without charge.

Are the G.B.members really good business people ?
by smiddy3 inif i was an author of a book i think i would be over the moon if i was guaranteed a sale of around 5 million or more books for my work.. the jehovah`s witnesses have over 8 million members plus relatives that are fringe dwellers who come to the memorial once a year ,.
so what a gold mine they have been sitting on as a publishing house .. why didn`t they keep publishing books for the faithful ,they could have even upped the price , and the faithful would have paid especially in prosperous country`s in the west.. they could have milked this venture for years to come as the faithful would have bought anything they would have published .. and their prophets (profits) would have soared ,literally and figuratively for many more years to come ..

The Latest "Peoples Magazine" on Occults
by new boy inof course they talk about all the really wacky ones everyone knows about, jones town, charles mason, heaven's gate and branch dravidian.
however if you add up all the unnecessary deaths these cults have contributed too (a thousand and fifty people) it pales in comparison to the number of people who have been directly or indirectly killed my the jehovah's witnesses.
by the way all of the cults mention above are no more, except for the watchtower bible and truck society.. the little ones seem to get all the attention and the big ones just slide on by.. .

by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara ini was a thriving regular pioneer, doing all thr things wholeheartedly, had 16 bible studies, 7 attending meetings regularly, 11 magazine routes and 100's of rv's.
you can imagine i was always runnin out of literature and always a good list of books to order every month.
(not bragging, just stating facts.all this is wasted anyway).

I have been attending 40+ years and don’t know anyone who has committed suicide, this is therefore statistically robust evidence that suicides don’t happen in gods organisation

Narrow mindedness annoying
by Lost in the fog innone of the brothers and sisters in indonesia were hurt or lost in the recent disaster, according to one of the friends who added "we were all praying for them as soon as we heard it on the news, as you do.
and what about the rest of the population?
i know its nothing new in their attitude to the world outside in general, but it makes me so angry!
-

If you had heard of a major disaster and knew your family was in the area, would you feel more concerned about your family , or the population at large? Jws feel close to people in their religion , so they would focus on them, this doesn’t mean they don’t care about others (although I doubt many would contribute to charitable efforts to help the wider population)

Florida investigating catholic priests, maybe JW victims can join in?
by Bad_Wolf insaw florida is doing special investigation into sex abuse by catholic priests.
i'm sure if some jw's join in they'll add that as well.

@smuddy3 I may be wrong, but I think there are only about 475,000 priests and deacons in the Catholic Church. I would imagine 20-30% of congregations are appointed people, so that’s about 2.25m appointed people, far higher than the Catholic Church. So you could argue you would expect far more , not less amongst abuse cases amongst jws

Adding insult to injury when the WT kicks out a congregation from their hall
by nowwhat? innot only does the organization confiscate the hall the congregation owns.
but then the former congregants are told to continue to pay for utilities and they are still responsible for upkeep and maintenance.
so they still have to cut the grass etc.

Members of local congregations make donations or gifts to their local congregation which is convened by the charitable organisation, the hall is generally owned by a trust who allow use of the hall at no cost.
So, again, why would a volunteer for a charity who makes a donation to a charity think they have part ownership of a building?
4 days agoBecause the local congregations have always paid for their own buildings. Whether they had the cash or got a loan from the society that they paid off themselves. Plus any remodeling along the way. What kind of question is that anyway?! Everyone knows that
