The Local Gay Friendly Church!
by TimothyT inso in my continuing quest to find a church which accepts me and provides me some spiritual encouragement every sunday, i decided to drop the baptists and search elsewhere.
i went on the internet and searched for gay friendly churches.
we found a methodist church in nottingham and we decided to go today.. when we entered, everyone was so welcoming.

You might have a problem when the conversation ends with your wife walking away from you...fingers in her ears.....yelling " Jehovah help me! Jehovah help me!"
by oompa inbut when they end like that three times....it's strike three... or maybe it was strike #3,333,333.......but it is sad and painful for us both i know.....a person must be in a very very bad place to act like that in front a man you have loved and been intimate with for 15 years....and at that moment i am satan in front of her....a begging pleading attempting to reason satan...but still satan to her and her friends.....but this nice woman needs satan out of her life now....oompa.
i am not a bad person...i am not satan...i asked her why she thought i had tried so hard....told her that if she was in a burning building just how hard would she think i would try to get her out??
she did not like that analogy either...so i have started the painful process...the building is going to burn to the ground now....and i will never put her through that fingers in ears thing again.... and i will be fair and reasonable....and pay her the alimony and give her half....i could so be a satan to her in divorce....but i won't!...i can at least prove to them all that i am decent man...and not mentally diseased or satan.....and ahhhhh i feel good about that....plus both my boys are free now...

I will let you in on a secret after just having gone through this... no matter what you do, how much you give away, how nice you are, they will NEVER think of you as decent.
Treat her well in the divorce, move on with your life. Good luck.

Does the Issue of Universal Sovereignty make sense to you as an explanation for evil?
by gubberningbody init used to for me, and now it doesn't.. i'm not sure how i was able to accept that argument now that i don't, but perhaps it was connected with my increasing compassion for people and their personal suffering as i've grown older.. now it seems like a sick excuse.
more like a bar-bet with satan and all of creation suffers.. i read paul's words and he has no rejoiner except to say in effect "sucks to be a vessel of wrath...glad i'm not one, but who are you to complain anyway, huh?
who's bigger, smarter and more powerful than you, you, you complaining vessel of wrath, you.

That sucks as a situation to be in. I am very sorry to hear that. There is no expiration date if you need someone to talk to.
And don't get me wrong, I am not saying I am mad at Shelby or don't like her. By way of example, my best friend is one of the most flawed people I know. He's wicked smart, honest to a fault, but has his flaws. One thing I love about him is not only would he bail me out of jail at 3 AM, he also calls me on my bullshit every time i start to get a little sideways or dishonest with myself. I do the same for him. Despite our flaws and telling each other when we fuck up, we are friends. Actually, not despite that, because of it.
I can still be friends with someone right after I said how I thought what they were doing is bullshit.
**Edited to say you have a PM, or will in the next few minutes**

What Shelby said didn't hurt me. How can a false statement by someone I don't really know hurt me?
What it DOES show is that, despite her KNOWING the truth, she leans on that like a crutch, uses it like a gun and whips it out whenever it is convenient, it's a smear. It's low down, dirty and passive agressive. She never ONCE apologized for all kinds of stuff her "lord" told her about me that was patently wrong, some of it ALSO ugly nature.
So, none of this hurts me. It takes a lot to hurt me. My son accidentally hit me in the nuts playing football today. That hurt. Getting divorced hurt. This... this is just calling a spade a spade.
You laughing at it doesn't hurt me, either, you took it as something other that what it was and laughed based on that perception. Of course I won't fault you for that, that would be unreasonable. And empathize with what you live it. It sucks ass. You have to put up with it, commit them to help against their will and hope eventually it works or walk away, none of them appealing options.
You can talk to me about it any time, I've been through something similiar (drugs, not alcohol, but the end result seems to be the same, people with potential fucking up their lives and the lives of those around them). I mean that very sincerely.

Okay, I haven't gotten to this page, yet... but that was the most awesome retort (even given lightly). I laughed out loud.
It would be funny if alcoholism wasn't a disease that many suffer from. It also would be funny if Shelby didn't sincerly believe it. She's accused me of it many times in the past and not once suggest or encouraged that I get help, unlike those who truly beleive SHE needs help for hearing voices. Once again, the loving Christian shows less love than the supposed amoral atheist. No surprise there, sadly.
At this point, it's her go to trick, like "Have you stopped beating your wife yet", it's hollow, a last ditch effort to sling mud. I like shelby, she's interesting if nothing else, but that doesn't mean she gets a pass for slinging shit.

Alcoholism is why some people put whiskey in their morning coffee, dear EP (the greatest of love and peace to you, my bruh!). "A bit of the hair"... and all that...
Oh, sweet baby jesus, are you armchair diagnosing me again, the same person that got all sorts of info from directly from a diety and got every single bit of it wrong, the person that hears voices?
It really is quite sad that you really have it in your head that I'm an alcoholic. You go straight through that door every chance you get. Sad. I would pity you, but I am not sure I am capable of that emotion.

Neutrinos faster than the speed of light...
by EntirelyPossible inreferencing back to this thread, http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/216165/1/what-is-truth-could-einstein-have-been-wrong..... i was doing some reading on the neutrino thing and i discovered somthing i didn't know, a subtle but important distinction i think a lot of us get wrong about relativity and nothing being able to move faster than the speed of light.. there are two theories of relativity from einstein, general and special.
general relativity (gr) describes gravity, gravity wells, the expansion of the universe, gravitional lensing, among other things.
special relativity (sr) describes things like mass-energy equivalence (e=mc^2), the expansion of the universe and spacetime itself.. sr doesn't say nothing can go faster than the speed of light (c in the equation).

oh, my new razor i strop probably once every 5 or 6 shaves.
On my older ones...they are wider and thicker blades, I learned to strop on the newer, smaller thinner one, I think I am somehow holding the blade wrong and not getting the super fine edge because the angle is not what I learned on. they have been honed enough so that they SHOULD be super sharp.

Monkey, I am not moneybags. I have an ex, child support and alimony. Two of the three razors i bought used and re-conditioned.
I always strop cloth first and then leather too, that's what I read was the right way. Are you having trouble keeping it razor sharp? I will tell you, it is MUCH easier to keep a sharp edge on my carbon steel blade made last year than the 30 and 40 year old blades I bought (for $30 for both of them) and reconditioned.

Hi Shelby. I only referenced your thread so people didn't think I was just now seeing it. I wasn't really going back to the original question, I just learned something that I felt was a common misunderstanding and wanted to share.
Since you asked your question again, I will attempt to answer it.
Your comment above goes back to the question I asked in the thread referenced in your OP: what is truth? Is it: (A) something we thought was right, or (B) later was thought wrong, or (C) and then later thought right... or NONE of these... because they are ALL only what we THINK is right... AT THE TIME... and not necessarily what IS right... or "true"... at all?
Truth has many frames of reference. It is true I am not hungry. It is also true that I will be. That truth changes over time and with circumstances. That is a subjective truth. What it true for me has no bearing whatsoever on that truth for other people.
Some truths depend on perspective and are more opinion than anything else. Some people think that because I work for a huge multinational I have sold out and am part of the problem with corporations and lobbyists and whatnot. They think that is true. I think that, given what I due, there is a very small field of places to work and whether I work here or not has no bearing on corporate law.
Some truths are true for everyone. Gravity, for instance.
So, where does science fit into this mix? Nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. Science doesn't seek truths, it seeks refinment, to learn more, better theories that fit more evidence. That's it. It doesn't seek absolute truth, it seeks to sort out what explains the past and present and can predict the future. As we learn more, science is applied and knowledge and theories refined.
Where does religion or faith fit into the mix? Subjective truth only. They are only true because people believe it subjectively. It has, many times been falsified. For instance, the voice you hear has told you many things about me that turned out to be incorrect. It got the past wrong. It won't tell you what color and style shirt I am wearing. It cannot explain the present. I have never heard you say it was uttering predictions that could be understood without some vague interpretation, so it's not predicting the future. It's not science by any stretch and any comparison is false and invalid.
Others hear voices they claim is god speaking to them and he says totally different things to them. It's not something that is true for everyone. Indeed, it seems to be very different for almost everyone. At BEST it is a subjective truth completely and utterly unfasifiable, IOW, no way to test whether or not it is true in an objective sense.
So, what is truth? It's lots of things. It depends on the context and subject under discussion.
