Did Life Originate By Chance or Intelligent Design? Or is There a Third Option?
by JimmyPage inwhen discussing the argument of how life originated the wt always boils it down to being chance vs. intelligent design.. no scientist in their right mind believes it happened by chance.
nor do most scientists believe that life is a product of god.. there is a solution that the wt completely ignores and that is... natural selection.. how many here who believe in a creator have honestly examined what natural selection really is?.
(i've been reading "the god delusion" by richard dawkins and was very surprised when i came to the chapter that actually mentions the watchtower society's arguments for intelligent design.

Natural selection (changes in species over time) doesn't have anything to do with abiogenesis (where the first life came from). Before the first life there was nothing to select.

No there isn't any evidence that who wrote then did is WITHOUT permission from the original writer and my "liking it" is irrelavant since I don't view the bible as inerrant.
Yes there is, the contradicting commands for one. Women can prophesy, women can't speak. Did Paul change his mind so radically? That's not a refinement, that's a complete reversal. Something is out of whack. Along with other evidence, it points to one of them being a forgery. The evidence is not just in Erhman's book, in many other places.
You keep using "I don't see the bible as inerrant" and then complaining about people point out all the problems, contradictions, reversals, etc., and complaining they are being sensationalist.
If you don't care, then why do you care so much?
I view it as a facinating historical book, written by men inspired by their love for God, I don't view it as error free and never have.
You keep saying that. We know. It's not only, how, not just "error free" but more like "error riddled".
I don't view it to be take literal AND concrete and I am not alone in that, I share the floor with the likes of Augustine and NT Wright.
OK. Being ancient and famous doesn't make him right. No appeal to authority logical fallacy allowed, my friend.
Bart is expressing his view that one of the possibilities of the issues in, taking the letters of Timothy for example, some NT documents is thyat they were forged ie: written without the permission of the person they are attributed to, but we don't have any proof of that.
Some are his views, some are commonly accepted, some he mentions but doesn't agree with. We do have strong circumstantial evidence. You're not liking it and pointing to Augustine in no way changes that.
Bart maybe right and I agree that he probably is, be we don't know for sure.
Of course we don't know for SURE. But since you think he probably is, why do you protest so much?

DEBUNKING BIBLE MIRACLES: Joshua telling the sun to stand still
by Black Man inso, i'd love to start some threads debunking biblical miracles as the fairytale fiction that they are.
the first i'd like to start off with is jehovah supposedly making the sun stand still to allow joshua's army enough daylight to conquer the amorites.
here's a quote sentex.net explaining why this would be completely impossible:.

We are smarter than the brothers. Not the same. Smarter.
Get in the kitchen and make me a sammich. (joking!)
Yes, women are treated like shit in this religion. Men are treated as all potential for leadership. Males, should choose to not reach out for leadership, are treated as second class. Women, if they show leadership, are told to mind their place.
Neither sex can have any doubts, express criticism or not subvert their own desires or opinions for the group. It sucks for everyone involved. Even those that LOVE the religion tend to die poor and having worked hard at menial jobs their entire life because the end was just around the corner. Sure there are exceptions, but for the most part, no one gets out unscathed.
/Srsly, where's my sammich?

by stuckinamovement ini have found myself drinking more and more since i realized that the truth was a lie just to quiet my mind.

mmmm beer.... so to avoid being a slave to a habit, i have determined to stop drinking.
