You do deserve credit . . . no question. The power of WT indoctrination enslaved all of us here at some point . . . breaking free mentally is no mean feat.

I do have a concern about your current JW husband . . . you say he is controlling, and an MS. With this description, he probably has ambitions also. Your departure will probably bring his WT concieved world crashing down. I'm not sure of the wisdom of this occurring "at close quarters" SweetMocha. It may be a safer option to handle the fallout at a safe distance . . . how's your relationship with your Dad?

You probably get my drift here . . . and maybe I'm off the mark, as you know your situation best . . . just keep you and child SAFE . . . that's all I'm saying

Sounds like you just need those income needs met and your outa there! . . . do you have any worldly friends or family that can help out temporarily? Being free from all the pretence and obligations being in your position lays on you, will give you more manouvering room to get your act sorted . . . just a thought.

Don't get hung up too much on what the WT requirements and protocols are . . . that's what you're leaving behind. Just let him know when you've shagged someone and leave them to it.

in my attempt to seperate myself from the jw's completely, i am finding all kind of awesome people.

of course, if we are talking by jw's standards these people are "awful".

anywho, there are a couple of them who are absolutely fascinated with the fact that i used to be a jw.. the reason they are fascinated is because they are aware of cultish mind-control and understand just how difficult it is to walk away from it all.

Me and my family have been out for six years . . . and I have never had the experience you speak of. It's not that I haven't tried . . . but even my immediate family who was largely 'estranged' for 25 years are not interested in the details of what it was like for us.

Those select few non-JW's who take such a strong interest in your experience are priviliging you . . . I'm jealous

In general, what is the ethically correct response if a minor tells you someone is molesting him/her?

i was thinking about what the elders are trained to do versus what i personally would do if a minor confided in me that someone was molesting him/her.

i'm not sure what the ethically correct first response should be.

my first thought is to contact some kind of law enforcement that specializes in investigating situations like this with people experienced in getting to the truth of the matter.

To do anything other than contact the appropriate authorities runs the risk of certain people covering tracks and preparing for what will follow . . . it gives them some measure of control . . . control they're not entitled to . . . control they've already abused.

In this country, individuals are required by law to contact the appropriate authorities even if they suspect child abuse. Even Dr-Patient confidentiality is waived. Difficulties enforcing such a law reduces it to an obligation . . . but most are beginning to take it more seriously. (JW's exempt)

It does put in place a principle (ethic) . . . if you suspect a child is being abused . . . report it . . . end of story / no exceptions

Violence comes in many forms . . . physical spiritual, and mental. Those who have been sexually molested, lost loved ones unnecessarily in medical emergencies, been seperated from family and friends indefinitely. These ones feel every bit as much "violated" as someone who get's a punch on the nose. I'm not saying violence is OK . . . I abhor it in all forms . . . but usually it's violence that begets violence . . . just of a different form. As the saying goes . . . there's two sides to every story . . . and nobody I saw looked happy.
