Life after death

everyone has different views about life after death and whether or not it is a possibility.. as jehovah's witnesses, we were always taught that there is no life after death, that this is the only life we have now and that the wages of sin is death.. .

what are your views on life after death?.

Actually, what I said was . . .

but to believe in the existence of a deity (a source) is not unscientific in itself.

You are taking issue with something I never said. In fact I went to great lengths to frame things with generous allowance for the unknown. Either you read my post hastily or you are entrenched in absolutes.

With your reference to Apollo . . . you appear to be saying the existence of a deity will be disproved one day . . . that is pure speculation and therefore "unscientific"

one day i hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.

we were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

my taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

I should have included the fact that this was not my personal experience . . . it was mailed to me by a friend. But I thought the philosophy was quite brilliant . . . where would the world be without taxi drivers!

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And, I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

I've been told that it's more difficult than quitting heroin. I believe it.

And rightly so. I've quit both in the past . . . H was a cinch by comparison

Back smoking again after quitting 3 weeks ago . . . you're an inspiration at present sinis . . . don't cave . . . I need you not to.

WT scars that run deep

my son who is 26 yrs.

old recently confided in my wife and myself that he is having a rough time moving on past the jw mindset.. he was associated with the witnesses for the first 24 years of his life, and he really tried to do the whole witness thing correctly, yet he was and still is a shy person.

now that he has been out for two years, he is having a lot of anger toward people who believe in god.

Lunatic Faith's post is a very good one . . . I have a 23 year old son who has had issues getting past WT . . . but he has worked it through now. I think the level of trauma is not only a reflection of the depth of control by the cult . . . but also the depth of belief on the part of the individual.

It's really traumatic to change one's views, and to realize that what you once held to be absolute truth, was a big, fat lie.

This trauma can be worked through in time. My experience leaves me wanting to encourage you as follows; Familiarise yourself with information that will help your son through this . . . so you can be the greatest possible support for him . . . and avoid criticising his views . . . they are valid in respect to where he is at the moment.

Also, trauma of this type carries with it a high risk of mental illness. Be aware of how this might manifest itself . . . and be ready to respond EARLY if necessary.

after carefully evaluating the my current life situation, i've come to the conclusion that returning to the hall will be best for me.

i simply just don't fit in with the rest of the world.

i don't drink, smoke, have sex, go to clubs, listen to worldly music, watch movies, or gamble.

It's not a harmful cult. It's not a cult period. The concept of a “cult” in your mind is simply a slang term for an organization you have personal issues with. So the religion is not for you. This doesn't mean it's not for everyone.

maze . . . here you go again telling me what is going on in my mind . . . that's the 2nd time in as many days.

If you are a mind reader . . . then you are a very poor one . . . the concept of a cult in my mind is quite different from your "all-knowing" declaration above. There are several definitions of a cult and much has been written about the subject, which I have familiarised myself with. JW's are a harmful cult, period.

If you disagree . . . fine. But why do you make accusations and infer bad motives to someone you don't even know? . . . it's called slander . . . and is condemned in the bible . . . you are being very unchristian and at the same time, very JW . . . which only serves to prove my point.

It's very typical of cult members to attribute bad motives to, and condemn their critics . . . if the shoe fits?

You are being flippant and arrogant . . . again. The time to take a look at yourself is long overdue . . . but I'm not holding my breath.
