How to identify a JW from a distance

much has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.

- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.

rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

THE INTERNET - The Means For A Global Revolution?

we recently had a tour here in new zealand from the musical legend herbie hancock.

during the tour he engaged in a media interview where he expressed himself about the effects of the internet on the global community.. he spoke with intelligence and refreshing optimism about the potential of the internet and the opportunities it opens up for the world community.. in short (and i'm going only from memory here), he expressed how he felt the drawing together of individuals through the internet, and the opportunity for large groups of people to speak with a combined voice, had the capacity to initiate major change.

he highlighted the further potential for large, instantaneous, interest groups, to both highlight issues and bring pressure on world leaders to initiate change.. a recent example is the petitioning of ugandan govt officials regarding the proposed harsh anti-gay legislation being presented before the ugandan parliament.

@Joliette I think it is wonderful too . . . and as Herbie said . . . with so much potential for the future if embraced for what it can achieve. As more awareness of it's power for good is realised, I hope we can see this power increase,

@DanaBug Glad you've seen the true potential. I signed the petition too. I noted also that the existence of the petition became newsworthy in itself . . . creating further awareness. Hopefully this trend will continue.

@jean-luc picard It's all about the exposure I guess. What the trend seems to indicate is that previously "unheard" voices now have a greater chance of being heard . . . a threat for anyone who wants to hide . . . Borg included. Their "day" is not far away I feel.

@wobble Yes there are those that would rather it did not have as much influence . . . but will they be able to prevent it in the long run? People are already developing the appetites for greater freedom.

@Satanus The good thing about the internet is that misinformation can be exposed as quickly as it appears. But yes, the intelligentsia have the upper hand and there is still a wide gap that needs to close first.

@Sabatious I guess at some stage an altruistic incorruptible core must form the heart of anything successful . . . any chance of that?

@CoCo Thanks for the vote of support. It would be nice to see things trending better for the following generations.

Hopefully as the power of this media grows even further, those that recognise it's value will fight to preserve it harder than those who would destroy or restrict it. Whatever it's future I feel we should embrace and support this trend, contributing to it at every opportunity. While it may not be a panacea to the worlds ills, it may well be the best opportunity on a Global scale to, over time, make some significant social, economic and political improvements for all the worlds inhabitants.

Disinterest, apathy and complacency could see the best opportunity for positive change become a lost opportunity in some future generations memory. That would be a shame.

New Here, Hello Guys - New website idea

hello, i'm a 'active' 17 yr. old jw, saw this site before when i was still searching for answers, i gotta say, it's not a good site to convert jws, because most of the people on here seem to hate the "borg" (as you call it on here?

i rather had to go on a scientific forum to get answers to my questions about jw (or rather the bible in general) with a very open mind, and actually thinking to convert some of them if i was lucky.

rather, i saw that everything the society gave us was easily refutable, or on shaky grounds.

A debate between active JW's and the people on this site. I would pay pretty good money for tickets to that event.

Many of "the people on this site" are active JW's . . . I can think of half a dozen off the top of my head. If you feel inclined . . . search some of the previous threads on doctrinal issues . . . blood, 1914 etc . . . it won't cost you a thing.

I gotta say, it's not a good site to convert JWs, because most of the people on here seem to hate the "borg" (as you call it on here?) so much.

Usually, the only thing that can convert a JW is him/herself . . . such is the nature of mind-control. Bear in mind that the majority here are not 17 year olds like yourself with your adult life ahead of you. Most have lost 20, 30, 40 years and even more to a deception . . . the best years of thier lives . . . I think most would be a little angry or resentful in those circumstances.

I suggest you concentrate on the issues that are important to you . . . there is a lot of good information to be found here. And do not just restrict yourself to JWN . . . there is plenty of value in other Forums. As for seeking knowledge . . . I would encourage you to do that as much as you can from a multitude of sources . . . and be sure it is based on provable facts. Develop your critical thinking abilities and learn . . . for it will determine the path and quality of your life.

As for JW's . . .

I think they believe they are truly doing God's work.

No argument with that . . . it's because they are mind-controlled by a religious cult . . . simple as that.

this is very difficult to write (forgive me for any spelling mistake, i am not a native english speaker).. i cannot tell my complete story on this board - i eventually will, once i have broken the last "link in the chain" that has kept me captive to the borg.

i can't tell my story, because.....basically i will be known.....as a more or less "famous" jw..... i have been lurking this site for many years, wrote here under another name - this eventually was found out and i had to do "damage containment".

i had to "go back" and tow the party line....all my family (extended and close) are witnesses, all my "friends" and even work & business relationships are jw.

There is little I can add as the friends here have pretty well covered things (as they do). The only thing I might add is to be very careful with regard to your mental health. When the pressures are extreme, we still feel that we can just "be strong" and work our way through it. Unfortunately we often don't know there is a problem before it's too late and we suffer a real break down.

This happened to me and it has taken many years to repair the damage. I was always told I was a mentally strong person and the activities I engaged in as a young man lend support to that. But I later learned that those who are strong mentally often fall the hardest. Nobody is immune.

Support from others is invaluable, that is certain. However it may be the course of wisdom to talk about your situation with an appropriate medical practitioner NOW. As JW's we are made to feel suspicious of this area of medicine. As of now, that should provide extra motivation to avail yourself of it, for this too is based on lies. It is your decision, as only you know your situation thoroughly, but do consider this aspect. Without keeping your mental health sound, the job becomes that much harder and dangerous for you personally. Believe me, prevention is far more desirable than having to seek a cure after the fact.
