Elder on my JC Killed in Warehouse Accident!
by jookbeard inalmost chocked on my cornflakes this morning reading the story in my local paper, not too sure how to embed the link but the sutton guardian.co.uk will have the story now.. basically dave churchill worked for a local catering company and was moving a stack of tables with some sort of trolley and they toppled down landed on him he died 2 days later in st george's hospital.. i'd known him most of my adult dub life and he was an elder in my ex wifes congregation, he also gave our wedding talk, he is survived by his wife elaine , they never had kids.. during my dissent into "apostasy" he was selected as one of the elders on my jc because he knew me but during my jc he came across and as an arrogant,self righteous,argumentative down right rude pos certainly showed characteristics that i had never experienced before and along with his "mate" on my jc another bellend named stan rogers started this bad cop/good cop shit on me during the 2 weekends on meetings, the other 2 on my jc chairman geoff woodfield and rensford ming showed themselves to be decent men.
3 amazing incidents have be felled these 2 men in the years that followed my jc, events that i've rarely mentioned much over the years.. isn't karma an amazing thing.

Nice work Barb . . . and thanks for that.
I guess the significant aspect of no fee liability is that there remains no reasonable excuse as to why WTS has, and continues to blatantly refuse their legal obligations under the Act. The only possible reason remaining is that there exist a strong potential for public embarrassment they wish to keep hidden, and possible future organisational disruption in complying.
There remains their criminal liabilty for refusing to comply with the Act to date . . . which if persued and publicised could prove the most effective deterrent for prospective members . . . here's hoping.
My understanding from the legal advisory source you posted, as well as the Act itself, is that it will obligate all JW's working in the "preaching and teaching" work to undergo the check. This could even make it a legal requirement synonymous with baptism or even prior to engaging in prosyletising. I'm sure whatever transpires, the WTS legal juggernaut will have it's work cut out in the months ahead.

In spite of there being no central doctrine . . . this Forum has plenty of the characteristics of a religion. There is even plenty of low-level cult-like behaviour if you know what to look for. It's nothing bad or anything . . . just thought I'd add to the discussion. **ducking flying objects**

There's obviously a lot of interest here . . .
If you want to take the time to read the Victorian Working With Children Act 2005 and see how it effects the JW's you can find it here . . .
The Act allows for full discretion as to the payment of fees . . . I am not aware of any ammendments providing a statutory waiver of fees for religious organisations . . .
(4) A power conferred by this Act to make
regulations providing for the imposition of fees
may be exercised by providing for all or any of
the following matters—
(a) specific fees;
(b) maximum or minimum fees;
(c) maximum and minimum fees;
(d) the payment of fees either generally or under
specified conditions or in specified
circumstances;
(e) the reduction, waiver or refund, in whole or
in part, of the fees.
...................................................................
There seems little doubt the WTS has committed a criminal offence under the Act . . . it's a question of the messy business of bringing a prosecution against an Organisation. Prosecution of this nature has not to my knowledge ever been applied using the Act, so it's foreign ground even to the authorities and prosecutors . . . so it may take time.
Remember though there are two main issues here . . . the need for the WTS to conform to the law . . . and the existence of criminal behaviour on the part of the WTS to this point. The latter is more the focus of SU . . . he wants a prosecution . . . and he may yet get it.

Are You The Type Of Person That Really "Loves" People On This Site?
by minimus ini know some here seem to truly be interested in everyone's welfare.
they seem to be really troubled/happy by another poster's health, life, children, job, sex life, worries, anxieties---you name it, they're very involved in "caring" about people that they hardly know.. i have forged some friendships, i've met some great people on this site.
i've communicated with many nice people here.

The WTS experience is a unique and intense one . . . and will probably be a dominant feature of the life of most here. It provides a shared experience that binds us uniquely and intensly almost by default. We care about and understand others to a greater or lesser degree . . . and we desire to be cared about and understood by others in return. If that fits the definition of love . . . then yes I do love many here . . . as well as those yet to come . . . almost by default.

I'm sorry I knocked on your door
by corpusdei inthey say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
nowhere is that more evident, i think, than in the kingdom hall.
like so many others that i knew, i thought the watchtower society had it right, that their answers were the correct ones.

I am sure most of us who ever showed JW zeal can recognise where you are coming from.
Amen
Nicely written corpusdei

w684/15p.255 Questions From Readers There has to be real evidence of adultery, such as the mate’s confession, or proof that the mate stayed all night with a person of the opposite sex under improper circumstances.
So it's OK to fuck someone . . . as long as you don't cook him breakfast . . . idiots

i do feel for the other 7 million who are deluded. Id like to reach out to them, but i dont think they would respond. I will try my best for the future. Tahnks!
I think we honestly all feel that way Tim . . . but you're right, getting the right response is rare . . . even if we employ the best methods available. We can however be a support to those exiting and finding a real life . . . like we do here at JWN. Most of us need it, and it's a worthwhile and valuable thing to do. Don't go anywhere too soon.

In other words, it is simply an information-gathering exercise. It is good if this helps put child abuse within the JW org in the public spotlight, but the Inquiry itself has no official powers.
That is true BP . . . but the head of the Inquiry is an ex Supreme Court Judge. Any submissions involving illegal or criminal behaviour made at the inquiry would have to be passed on to the appropriate authority to persue as to whether they are substantial at the very least. The Inquiry head seeking this follow up is more likey to get the appropriate response than Steve's lone voice. It's an obligation Hon Phillip Cummins QC cannot possibly avoid I would think. Of course the Inquiry needs to be completed and it's findings published which all takes time.
