special report: child abuse and the churches.
exclusive by charles thomson.
It's gratifying to see the issue gaining some momentum.
Quite a contrast seen with the stand taken by "other religions"
Hearing JW representatives say "JW's abhor child abuse . . . " is sounding like a cracked record. Let's get the law to open the trunk and see what's actually hiding in there.
i recently attended the second day of the 2 day assembly for safeguarding your mind.
the first talk was entitled "feed your mind at jehovah's table".
the first portion of this talk specifically targeted apostates warning members to not listen to them "even if they were once strong in the truth or had great responsiblity in the congregation".
"Safeguard Your Mind"
One man's fortress is another man's prison . . . there's your "context".
there is a lovely site where one may light a candle for a moment of silence.. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles.
i set up a group, where they may all flicker together, if you like.. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=oompa.
(we love and miss you, oompa.).
Great idea . . . total now 39
well if someone came to you saying they were going to sacrifice one of thier children to god because god spoke to them telling them to do so what would you conclude?
would you tell him to be faithfull to the voice and do it so they can become god's friend like abraham was?.

sizemilk,
the psychology today article ends rather abruptly They are discussing a case study, Audrey, and the page just ends. does this articles continue anywhere? I do not see a link to click on. I'd like to finish reading the case study.
Unfortunately that's it. I've found the "Audrey" case study in it's original citing . . . but it is exactly the same. More like a "case in point" with a few quotes rather than a "study".
But this article is really scary. I suspect some here may have read it (or something similar) . . . to validate their "spirituality"
please post any examples of clear cut watchtower deception.
my wife does not believe that the watchtower would purposely decieve her.
i need clearcut examples of deception of by the wtbts.
Proving WTS deception is not a good choice IMO. The WTS writers are masters at covering their backs with plausible deniability and semantics. Also their "new light" doctrine covers "a multitude of sins" Too much can be debateable or reasoned away.
I have to agree with Leo . . . you need to get a handle on what bothers her the most. Take your time and listen very carefully to anything she might express. Choosing the correct subject makes a big difference. Once you are decided . . . take small steps then back off. Talk about other things too. The watering analogy is a good one.

gospel of jesus's wife is fake, claims expertscholar says papyrus fragment believed to provide evidence that jesus was married is a modern forgery.
karen king from harvard university holds the papyrus fragment that has four words written in coptic, which are believed to prove jesus was married.

If I heard a voice in my head it would scare the living shit out of me . . . I'd be on my cell to Psych Emergency pronto (I have their number in my phone). I'd also want it gone.
I suspect quite a bit of the bible is written by people who should have seen doctors.
. . . or stopped eating the mushrooms or something . . . who knows? Maybe they chewed on opium poppies for toothache? Either way there's an amazing amount of fanciful stuff taken at face value 2000 yrs later.

I think it's of concern that it may be a factor contributing to religious delusion . . . but that too is seen as relatively benign. And that's something else I find a little troubling nowadays. Perspective change I guess.

Hearing voices is quite common. I read somewhere that 1 in 10 experience it at some time in their life. Many consider it a normal part of their life . . . and even a benefit. Even physicians do not consider all who hear voices to be mentally ill or in need of help. Something about that troubles me.
