True. I meant it to be an ironic twist.
just thinking.... i can believe that a higher intelligence entity (hie) cannot be proven.
i am willing to accept that a hie cannot even be definitively induced, even for marvels that we cannot demonstrate at this time (e.g.
natural transformation of elements into living material).

I can believe that a Higher Intelligence Entity (HIE) cannot be proven. I am willing to accept that a HIE cannot even be definitively induced, even for marvels that we cannot demonstrate at this time (e.g. natural transformation of elements into living material). We could always invoke a HIE for anything unexplainable, but it is always only a hypothesis.
What evidence is there against a HIE? If all laws and events are derived from natural causes, it would be a strong proof, but still not conclusive. How can we decide if all laws and events are "natural"? What does that even mean? To prove a HIE does not exist, we must show that there is no possibility that it can exist.
This is where I believe I am stuck. I am within a system, attempting to disprove the existence of something outside that known system. At best I can speculate that something is indeed there or not. However, for me to accurately evaluate this external factor, I would need to either be external to the system or be omniscient. Of course if I was either of those, I'd probably be a HIE. I'm not.
So I can't prove that a HIE exists after all. Can I?

i turned in a request (by letter) for reinstatement last week and ive been informed that i will meeting with my original judicial committee this coming wednesday.
im very excited and happy, but at the same time i want to be careful how i conduct myself.
in the last meeting in early march, my reinstatement request was turned down.
SYN raises a good point about reading apostate material. If this is the truth, you should have nothing to fear because truth can stand on its own -- it has nothing to fear from falsehood which can eventually be shown to be incorrect. You aren't being deceived if the material is indeed presenting facts. However, listening to arguments from only one side can get you in trouble.
Read Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom by Franz. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

MavMan - You seem to demonstrate a slight uncertainty in the JW's since you mentioned that you would leave it to Jehovah to decide what you will do. That, to me, indicates that you think Jehovah, at least a little, might possibly not want you to go back.
I know this website is not the most friendly to JW's, due in part to the hurt many here have been through. What caused me to reevaluate my entire belief in the JW's was that they teach everyone except JW's will be destroyed eternally in Armageddon. Billions of people. I know many who are not JW's but are good and decent people. Will God destroy them forever because they never joined the organization?
Best wishes on whatever happens with you and let us know how it goes. I'm interested.

where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 yrs?
what do you really want to do with your life?
are you living your dreams or just dreaming to live?
Willing to trade, yes, but then ofcourse I would like the full length view and not the LEG pic...Do we have a deal?
Maybe. Are you still dating your JW boyfriend?
sorry, this is a long post:.
i had a conversation with my jw friend the other night.
i thought i'd recap some of the arguments presented even though i didn't get to touch on all of the different counter arguments i would have liked to present.. on "worldly" people: i tried to explain what it felt like when i first realized that derogatory comments were being said about non-witnesses.
Thanks for the story, detective. I need to do the same thing with my JW friend in two weeks. She still thinks I am one so that will make things a little different in the way I can present material. You'll find that JW's are less open to new ideas when they are coming from someone who is already a JW. They don't have to listen to you, if you're already a convert.
Most of them will see themselves as special and set apart because that's all they've been told. Once you saw your friend's defense go up as you presented points, it was probably over. You won't have much of a chance at that point unless you can catch them in a contradiction. Then they just get flustered or upset and need to "research" some more. You had a logical arguement, but people don't want to argue. They want to instruct you or have you agree with them.
You could try a new strategy since you might find they start to polarize towards the opposite side you take if you argue. If you can get them to agree with you from the start, you might be making some headway. Ask questions that they are almost forced to agree with you on, but that you know the WTS says differently. For example, do you think God will eternally destroy a good person just because he is not a JW? Do you think God would ever change his mind and then change it back again? If they haven't been indoctrinated beyond return, they will usually say no. Ask more questions like that then show them

i couldn't believe it when my daughter came home from a weekend at her cousins.
she had gone to the meeting with them on sunday and had been approached by an elder (an uncle by marriage)..he was of course joking when he said this....he had the nerve to tell her that because i was not attending the meetings (haven't been for 7 months) that they were going to have to come to my home with a shotgun and make me go.
i have heard of shotgun weddings before not shotgun meeting attendance.

Once an elder told me that if I didn't start coming to meetings he was coming to my house with a belt.
Ridiculous. Why should only elders get to have all the fun?

Be careful of the dark side, butalbee. The temptation is powerful once you reach that many posts.
some people like having a large number of posts credited to them.
myself, i think it just goes to show that various people have way too much free time on their hands.
i thought that this is my 666th post i will now officially retire my username and start with a clean slate.
Fess up rhett. You're just doing it because the counter stopped at 666 and you thought it was cool.
Anybody? How many posts will it take to reach each of the levels?
