What changes should the Watchtower have made throughout the years?

since many decades, the jw religion didn't change much.

although they changed a few doctrines back and forth, generally speaking, they didn't evolve and follow modern times as much as they should have.. what changes or ajustements should they have made throughout the years in order to have more success?

they should of acknowledged the mistakes as mistakes , ernt some respect, instead of acting like tony blair and his spin doctors.

its very worldy to make ppl feel its there fault instead of admiting your own fault

they should of got back to the most message that jesus taught.he never mentioned 1914 or 1975 just believe in me and get baptised ad that sort of stuff .plenty of material with out adding the workigs of men.

who decides what is milk and what is solid food anyway???..1975 went through me like a dose of salts.not very solid good food

ive been thinking about posting on this thread but quite frankly its embarressing to admit it

but yes I've had OCD for a number of years .

OCD sufferers might recognise this when i say OCD thoughts so repetitive and alarming at times they can reduce you to a jibbering mess.your struggle to fight them by the hour and at times it sends you to the brink of sanity .

The repetitive actions are the suffer attempting to control his her situation.to feel safe amid the obbsessional thoughts with which you are bombarded hour after hour, day and day ,month after month year after year.

OCD is a very tired mind struggling to keep it together .

The society did some articles on it once . They advised acknowledging them as wrong thoughts and pushiing/forcing them out , but failed to relise that that is exactly what OCD suffers are doing all the time.its why they have OCD the repetitious actions in an effort to feel safe and push out the distressing thoughts. .Infact the society was treating the problem like you would someone who was having sinfull thoughts .They just didnt seem to understand the reality of it at all.

By telling readers to force them out they were creating ahuge mental war and reinforcing the illness.

I tried to follow the advice which was from the society ...so it must be right .right?.....I felt sure that my prayers and efforts would be rewarded soon......but it made me worse .and of course i felt guilty because it wasnt working and even more guilty when i started ignoring their advice and thinking they were wrong.

It took me a while to relise that i was actually making making my self worse .the mental exhaustion was all comsuming so i went back to doing what books and mental health ppl advised..i felt so guilty allowing the thoughts to pass through with out condeming them and resisting them. and sure enough they began to get less and and i began to be able to see reality and and recognise that this was illness not me with evil wrong sinfull thoughts.

so now im loads better i hardly ever have obsessional thoughts or actions and if i do ive learnt how to let them pass and not to worry about it. .i recgonise them for what they are and im no longer afraid of them. It's now reduced to fairly normal worry levels .

I know other brothers and sisters with this illness and other similar problems.I think you prob have to be predisposed to it in the first place , that can't be blamied on the WTS .But I do beleive that the attitude of the WTS creates a perfect breeding ground for this type of thing partly through ignorance partly throught fear and partly through sheer self righteuosness. .

If any one thinks they have got OCD i would advise them to get advice from local mental health org's .gets some leaflets and books and begin to try to approach your problem slowly and in a way that works for you . you can get help and you can help your self even if your as big a coward as me .im the biggest coward under the sun

how did the org cope with the invention of tv radio and film magazines/the printing press and photography.. was watching a prog on early movies ..at the seaside there were movies machines with films like "what the butler saw" servanats and mistresses making whoopee in the larder.

not like today but must have been pretty daring in the old days and rude for the old days.

this was really really old brown and flickering film.so something objectionable to the early congregations?

spencer wells, a geneticist has been able to prove that all human races originated in africa.

along with this documentary, he has published several scientific papers and a book on this subject.

in a meeting once i said that the genesis story was obviously more like a parable /a story that represented some past historical event .and wasnt literal ..cause if adam and eve ate from every tree except the tree of knowledge of good and evil...well then they must have been eating from all the rest of the trees including the tree of life........the fact that they were immortal at that point then became mortal and were removed from the tree of life ......is more like a parable thats making a point not literal.

does anyone know why we carry on having water baptism?

im wondering because after reading up on baptisum johns water baptisum does seem to have been replaced by the holy spirit and fire baptism that john said would come.

jgnat yep ..forgot about the ethiopian.and found a few other mentions of water.

though i disagree that there was a set pattern clear in the bible.as you said " The bible pattern is quite clear; repentance, baptism in water, then baptism with the Holy Spirit" .i found passages where ppl recieved holy spirit before baptism. with paul for instance that repentance came after he recieved holy spirit. .and again with cornelius spirit first then although baptisum isnt done it is indicated as being on the cards.

paul and corneiulus were it seems special bt it doesnt mean they are the only ones ever, if we insist on some biblical pattern then it would be possible to deny some person who also recives holy spirit first before baptisum and attempt to correct them in ignorance. the old testement has plenty of people who received holy spirit before john and him being full of holy spirit from birth.

holy spirit isnt automatic it seems from what ive read some ppl didnt get i till they were prayed for.other till hands were layed on..and others still recieved it before baptisum from god himself or by disciples.

i found 2 instances where belivers who had previoulsy had the baptism of john then had to be baptised again because the baptism was not " in the lord" then recieved holy spirit when hands were layed on them.acts 8:14-16 and 19:4 .if johns hasnt been replaced or discontinued then weshould have 2 baptisms and then holy spirit.

lasty no matter how many ppl ive met who have been baptised there is no sign of holy spirit.

infact holy spirit seems to be something no one experiences any more.

in the bible the holy spirit is obvious but today theres nothing ... in the org holyspirit is suppose to choose the elected elder......yet im told they say a prayer before voting then vote..shorley all the votes would be for the same person...but thats not the case im told..so the holy spirit must have a split personality .

no similarity between holy spirit today and the biblical holy spirit..so there doesnt seem to be much of a pattern.

ppl get baptised and thats it.........unless you counted ppl falling on the floor and jabbering in supposed tounges that no one ever understands.

peacfull pete interesting thanks. ive read about the temple in the kurdish mountains that is the Zoroastrianism temple of old...very sacred place supposedly has a large pool of water thats some sacred thing.

water being a thing we all washing with im not surprised its used ritually for other religions .but you notice in judaisum that washing and cleansing is assosiated with judaic worship before john the baptists time.its not a huge leap.

First it says the water baptism of john was replaced by the baptisum of holy spirt on ..which we know came with fire not water...then it says this is the only water baptisum acceptable.

that doesnt make sense does it..fire and water are opposites...and there is no mention of water in the holy spitirt baptisums ive looked up so far.

So why are christians still using water??
