any locals here that can check out the person that actually formalized this request, and how did ccofjws say they were going to use the $$$ to promote columbia?
LDH:
Let's see:
Why do I criticize the Society's attempt to obtain tax dollars legislatively intended to promote tourism within Columbia, SC, when at the same time defend the Society's attempt to control the cost/expense of one of its programs?
I believe the question answers itself.
You understand so little about any of this that I really don't know where to start explaining such, since you obviously still don't eve understand the CircuitLeasing portion.
FOR EVERYONE ELSE, this "may" only be the tip of an iceberg.
Ask yourself why CCJW would even attempt to obtain tax dollars designed to be allocated to groups who promote Columbia tourism.
It would seem that CCJW/WTS may be trading on their history of bringing JWs to assemblies/conventions in Columbia, and they thought that they could use such to obtain an allocation.
This makes me wonder if they have attempted or even suceeded in doing this in other cities where they arrange conventions. Has the WTS been trading on their bringing JW dollars to a city in exchange for a kick-back of the accomodation tax?

JW Urban Legend making the rounds:
----------------------------------------
A few months ago a Brother from Vero Beach, Florida in the course of his
normal door-to-door ministry witnessed to a women of "middle eastern
descent." She seemed interested in his message and accepted the two
magazines he offered. As she took the magazines a man came to the door whom
she introduced as her brother. Her brother asked who they were and what they
wanted. Our Brother explained that he was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and
that they came to talk about the Bible. A few words were exchanged and the
woman's brother looked at the magazines, and said that it looked interesting
and that he would look into it.
This week the house was on the news in Vero Beach and our Brother recognized
it as the home of the women and man he spoke with. Our Brother called his
wife to look at the television. The house was the home of the sister of the
man who commandeered the first plane that hit the World Trade Center. He
took flight training in the area. The terrorist's name has been on the news
the past few days, but I would prefer not to include it in this E-mail. The
Brother told me that after seeing the man's picture on TV he had no doubt who
he was talking to.

the witnesses in europe get to hear the story, that "inc" ( in wachtower .... inc "stands for corporated association and not for a company based on stocks.
in french it would be called sa, societe anonyme, what means "inc" on stocks.. does anybody have the ability to explain the whole situation.. thanks from the grand duchy of luxemburg.
KV:
The Watchtower Empire has established numerous legal entities around the world. While likely similar, I suspect that "corporations" and "associations" may have some legal differences from country to country.
To the best of my knowledge, all U.S. WTS/JW entities are currently "non-profit corporations". As such, they do not issue shares of stock, thus do not have shareholders. Rather, the corporate charters provide for "members", who each have one vote. The WTS's Charters provide for a specified quantity of members who are chosen/removed by the particular Board of Directors. The Charters also specify the responsibilities, duties, and liabilities (if any) of such members.
the legal challenge raised to the door to door work could be.
huge in its effects.
even if the supreme court strikes down.
Even if the USSC's decision is as harsh as possible against the WTS, it would not end the D-T-D work, but rather just be a nuisance and hindrance in those communities which would possibly later pass ordinances requiring registration and identification.
However, it would cause JWs with skeletons in their closets to forego registration since criminal background checks might be involved.
what is the actual mechanism by which god reveals his truth to the governing body.
the governing body have admitted to having made mistakes so it can be logically stated that this mechanism is by nature flawed.. while true that god only has very imperfect people to act as "the faithfull and discreet slave", there is no reason why he would use a flawed or imperfect method of transferring this "life saving" information to them.. the governing body has been very quiet about what this method actually consists of.. surely they must also be aware that delusions of a religious nature are common in various mental disorders such as schizophrenia.
is there any way of judging whether truths are the product of ones own mind, if not the product of the devil.
First, to the best of my recollection, the WTS doesn't teach that a GB has always existed since the days of the apostles, but rather that some of the "anointed" have always been around since then.
Second, CoC spends an entire chapter on the current WTS teaching that the WTS Board of Directors constituted the GB since Russell's days. RF points out the fallacy of such with evidence that CTR, JFR, and NHK all ran the WTS as a Monarchy.

Met:
Our JW imposter friend, Fred Apostate, posed the issue which the USSC will consider very well:
The question presented is whether one's freedom ofWhile I have been too busy over the past several weeks (since the USSC granted cert), to look at this case in depth, my casual prediction (subject to re-evaluation) is that the USSC will rule as follows:
speech is protected in anonymous preaching.
Preaching on sidewalks and other publicly owned property is distinguishable from entering onto non-owned private property for the same purpose.
The USSC will say that the USConst protects an individual's right to privacy/anonymity while preaching in public forums.
However, the USSC will also say that local communities have a "greater" right to protect individual homeowners from unknown visitors of unknown character entering onto their private property, and that the privacy/anonymity rights of the individual preacher do not rise above such.
The USSC will allow communities to require registration, as well as allow them to require door-to-door solicitors to carry identification, SO LONG AS such procedures are fair, non-discriminatory, and do not rise to the level of preventing such door-to-door preaching.
The "SO LONG AS" portion may very well result in numerous challenges by the CCJW in the future, with state courts being forced to review the regulations of individual communities.
When I get time, I will review these preliminary predictions.
