Thus, to make a point with their successors, you not only have to kill the current terrorists, but you have to kill their grandmother, their wife, their daughter, their cousin, etc. Then, future terrorists must not only be willing to sacrifice their own life, but also the lives of all their friends and relatives.
As for Bushy versus Gore, all I can say from William Cohen comments, let's be thankful he's not pulling the strings. The Dems would probably invite Bin Laden to a Rose Garden picnic and cry for his forgiveness for "cruise miss-iling" his camel herd a few years back.

I'm afraid that Bushy Jr is following the exact same strategy as Bushy Sr, and we may see the exact same results:
Take weeks putting together a coalition response, that acknowledgely has positives, but will also contain the same negatives that prevented the complete elimination of the Sadam Hussein regime.
The coalition will help the US find Bin Laden, and possibly even allow a spanking of the Taliban, but will prevent any retribution against other coconspirators such as Yemen, UAE, Iraq, Syria, PLO, etc. In 5 to 10 years, some other Islamic gangster will have replaced Bin Laden.
If the US restrains itself to an "eye for eye" strategy, they should go ahead and paint a fucking bullseye on the Sears Tower. Radical Muslims are more than willing to exchange "kisses" with the US.
The only way for the US to make certain this never happens again is to strike back with "overkill" against every Cameljockey outpost, that calls itself a country, which has ever given any help to any Islamic terrorist group.

As briefly noted by one reporter, it is no small feat to hit a tall skyscraper head-on. The low-profiled Pentagon building is even much harder to hit head-on.
Whatever group is responsible would have to have found not only 4, 5, or 6 people willing to die in this effort, but such who were capable of being trained to take over the controls and fly a complex passenger jet.
