Nathan - thanks for sharing this piece of history. My guess is that it is not widely known. Something to ponder in this age of instant gratification and whining when inconvenienced by really trivial things. Aloha and Happy 4th.

July 4th, 2008 -- The Price of Freedom
by Nathan Natas inhave you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the declaration of independence?.
five were imprisoned by the british as traitors and tortured before they died.. twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.. two lost their sons serving in the revolutionary army; another had two sons captured.. nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the revolutionary war.. they signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.. what kind of men were they?.
twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.

They would have probably made a lot more on the buildings if they had sold last year. If the JW God can't time the market what chance do us mere mortals have? : ).

Would YOU Be Concerned If The Next President Was A Mormon, Or.....
by minimus inor for that matter, if a candidate didn't believe in god or belonged to a sect or was a believer in islam.....would you be leery?

Locutus - good post IMO, and I agree. As much as we love Hawaii, we may have to move to Costa Rica if the flip floppin' Mormon is elected.

What a waste of a young life! Nathan you probably saw this re: his parents from the article: Born to drug addicted parents, Lindberg moved into a Mount Vernon home with his aunt four years ago. He joined his aunt's faith and became a Jehovah's Witness

This is an unusual story, but I know some of the JW's in the the Colorado Springs area. Let me just say that based on some questions answered by inactive in a PM - I believe.

Hi Ken. Sorry for your loss, and can relate. Lost my dad to cancer, and several friends and relatives. Of course, the big C claims younger folks as well. A very fit young lady (35 years) that plays tennis at our club had several very large cancerous tumors removed. Bad news, its spread throughout her abdomen, undergoing chemo ect., Good news is she is a fighter, and is determined to live beyond the 1-2 years they are giving her. I'm 52, and except for a little longer recovery time after exercise or chores, I am in the best health of my life. That sad, as it says somewhere in the Bible that I used to read, "time and unforeseen occurence...." Until then, I am determined to take the best care of myself I can, and make the most of what time I have left. Stay positive my friend! Aloha

by purplesofa ini had not known about this story until today, but was shocked that any of it unfolded.
i can't imagine how many of us would have the same fate when we were teens.
i don't know the details of the night he "broke the law" but what ashame to live with this the rest of his life, and whats worse he will be telling teens how wrong he was.. purps.

Bingo! http://www.abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3782694 The case has always been about much more than age or consent -- it was also about race. Wilson is black and his sex partner is white. "The good thing about this case is that at least it resolves the issue for Genarlow Wilson for the moment," said Charles Ogletree, a professor at Harvard Law School. "But the fact that we continue to have these incidents remains for me a problem in trying to achieve racial justice in America." Today represents a victory for Genarlow Wilson, but some like Ogletree say it's also a reminder that we still have a long way to go. Sorry about the lack of formatting -using firefox and not IE

California Wildfires = The end?
by RollerDave ini just got a call from my jw mom asking if i was watching the news.. i'm like, "no, what's up?".
i'm imagining something must really be up, like we invaded some more countries or mushroom clouds over american cities, or maybe somebody famous did something horrible in public, or something.. she tells me 'half of california is burning.'.
i'm like "yeah, it's been doing that for a while now.".

I wonder if the JW's around New Orleans had similar discussions? It's sad, but I can relate to your mom. I lived in So Cal back in the 70's. There were some large wildfires in the Santa Monica mountains (1975 or 1976?) that gave off a fiery red glow through our window curtains. I got a call that morning from a cousin who was disfellowshipped and worried that Armageddon was imminent. She asked me to pray for her. Eventually the fear must have subsided - she never followed through on getting reinstated. Since then, there have been many wild fires, earthquakes, mudslides - and we are all still here!
