Happy Birthday zanex!
I turn 29 this year, and then I figure I will just have a 29th birthday for a few more years instead of 30! LOL I guess it isn't that bad to be 30, though. -

love11, I can relate. I am trying to clean up our basement today and finish converting it to a playroom. My 3-year-old is not making it easy for me, and we have friends coming over to play tomorrow, so I have to get it done.
He colored for awhile and watched a movie. Now, he is playing with his race cars. I'm taking a break to eat something.
I also gave him a few small helping tasks to do. I don't know how old your kids are, but he will put things in the trash, get the paper towels and cleaner, and he took some small things upstairs to get them out of the way. I gave him a broom to use, and he swept the carpet. I'm going to have to vacuum when I am done anyway. It keeps him entertained enough so I can at least get some of it done before his brothers get here to play with him.
Good luck. -

Are Kingdom Halls ever used for AA Meetings?
by TresHappy ini found this article online and thought it quite interesting.
i always thought kh's were used for kh business only.... the weekend shooting death of harvey county sheriff's deputy kurt ford could lead to murder charges today against a newton man.. several of those who know greg moore said his life began deteriorating several years ago after he stopped attending alcoholics anonymous meetings in the jehovah's witnesses kingdom hall just up the street from his house.. "he drank a lot -- i know that," said doug foulk, who lives in the neighborhood and worked with moore at excel industries in hesston for several years in the 1990s.
"he'd been in trouble with the cops quite a bit.".

by loosie in.
what is the most ridiculous song that you couldn't listen too.. because of so called bad lyircs (maybe misheard lyrics), sexy beat or because fo the person who sang it didn't have the proper morals?.
mine.... couldn't listen to ac/dc because it meant they went both ways.

My mom never really got into what music I listened to or what books I read. I was smart enough to not listen to any questionable stuff when she was around.
When we would be in the car, she'd let me bring something to play...it was usually The Cure, but surprisingly, she didn't mind them. On the way home, we'd have to listen to her Phil Collins lol
My aunt bought her a Gary Allen CD a while back, and my mom was really upset about one of the songs on there. I can't remember why, but she found something objectional. She got me to burn her a copy of the CD without that song on it. -

Couldn't donate to the Red Cross.
Once, our school wanted everyone to donate at least a dollar to them for some flooding around the Mississippi. We would get a flower for making the donation. My mom forbade me to give anything because they support blood tranfusions. -

Ruined marriages
by greendawn ini just wish to know does the wts have a deliberate policy of splitting married couples if one of the spouses leaves the org even if adultery is not involved?
do they at least indirectly encourage this to happen?
and if yes is this a fairly recent policy?

My mom has been baptized for over 20 years, and my dad is a non-JW. He has went to a grand total of two meetings, both about 5 years ago. I don't remember there was ever anyone trying to break them up, and my dad was staunchly opposed for many years. He would try to keep my mom from going to meetings, and sometimes he suceeded. He would hide the car keys, take the phone off the wall, etc.
However, I do remember the elders wanted to come over a few times and have a family meeting with us and requested my dad to be present. Daddy wouldn't agree to it, though. He used to complain about how much time my mom spent at the meetings, but now she pioneers, so I guess he just lets her do what she wants. -

As a kid, I couldn't wear a shirt with writing on it or own any thing with a character on it. My mom got this in her head (a little after the Smurf thing) and went out and bought me plain folders to use for school...She trashed my Strawberry Shortcake ones! She said it was idolizing a character.

I remember, at a circuit assembly, there was a whole talk about not saying certain phrases, including "hang in there." The brother said that if you were just "hanging in" you weren't secure...or something screwy like that. I was sitting there like WTF, but of course, my mom took it as the word of God.
