  sabastious: Is this an exaggeration? Are people really starting to wake up?

  Maybe that was a bit of an overstatement on my part. However, I have had doubts for a very long time and I think the same could be said of my wife, my siblings and my parents. So that’s at least 6 people that have had varying levels of disbelief at various times but were afraid to express that disbelief. Now 6 people does not necessarily translate to 50% of active dubs, but it tells you that there must be more than 6 people who are there out of fear, and not belief.

  Yes, sister x I had an idea like that. I thought about trying to find a cong that is dominated by an ethnic and/or racial group that is significantly different than our own background. My theory is that there would be a cultural disconnect between us and the new cong which would make it easier for us to disappear.

  No, you don’t get df’d for failing to attend meetings, but once you stop showing up the elders will pressure you to come back. If that doesn’t work they will find a reason to df you. They just make something up. If you believe otherwise then I have a bridge for sale.

  I'd love to, do you think you could tell WTS that I should have that option? If it was that easy then apostate websites like this one wouldn't exist.

  I received a few phone calls from concerned friends which I appreciated.

  So you appreciate being drawn back into the cult? I don't know about you but I would consider such phone calls to be harassment.

  The Oracle: Elders are instructed to make up new cards for ANY FORMER WITNESSES THAT THEY MAY FIND IN THE TERRITORY OR THROUGH ANY OTHER MEANS.

  There is nothing magical about not having "the original cards". Sorry for the bad news!

  I’ll heed your advice regarding the publisher record cards. While it will be useful to have our cards sitting in a KH office “lost somewhere in some Chicago suburb” it will not be the silver bullet I thought it was. I guess I was expecting too much when I hoped that the loss of the cards would cause our past as dubs to be expunged. Even before I read your post my wife and I had a conversation about the possibility of returning to "St Louis" someday in the future and she said to me that once we leave there is really no way we can ever move back. It really is true when they say you can’t go home again.

  I think if we encounter random dubs out on field service (people we don’t know) it would be smart for us to play dumb and pretend that we know absolutely nothing about the Jehovah’s Witnesses. We could say something like: “you Mormons just won’t leave us alone, I already told you we’re not interested.”

  I know that, but unfortunately my wife hasn’t fully embraced the concept... at least not yet.
  
  My goal is to get out of the borg with my wife and STAY OUT FOREVER! I am going to do everything I can to avoid any conflict with my wife's family because I don't want her to have an opportunity for a relapse. I'm not taking any chances. If I have to jump through hoops to achieve my goal then so be it. I would love to go out in blaze of glory, but I'm not going to turn this into a silly point-proving exercise.

  Let me clear something up here. If I was single and I was making this move alone, I would just “walk away” and leave my publisher’s card behind. My family isn’t the problem. My parents probably wouldn’t bother me too much if I just went inactive. My sister hasn’t been an active witness in years and my younger brother, who was never even baptized, quit halfway through high school and my parents never say anything to them. In fact, now that all four of my grandparents are deceased my mom and dad are drifting further and further away from the “truth.” The real problem is my wife’s family. I know my wife doesn’t believe anymore, but her mother is completely brainwashed. So I’m afraid that because she is afraid of her mother, my wife will have a weak moment and go back to the “truth” just to please her parents. If we leave our cards behind at our old cong, my mother-in-law will probably find out, and then she will harass my wife wanting to know why we didn’t transfer to a new cong. If her mother works on her long enough, I’m worried that my wife will want to go back the borg out of guilt.

  jean-luc picard: Have you thought what would happen if they came to visit you. The well indoctrinated nearly always want to go to the meetings with you.

  I know that her family will eventually find out that we are inactive, but I want to lead them to believe that we’re still active for as long as I possibly can. I can’t fool them forever, but moving the cards out of the old cong will buy us some time. I’m hoping that because she will be away from her nagging mother, my wife will have time to clear her head and gain the emotional strength necessary to live as a truly free person.

  We really should not have to jump through hoops should we, but as TAI said, its a cult.

  After I was deleted as an elder (and a secretary), I had my card sent to a congo about 15 miles away, another state, another circuit.

  Wow Snakes, I have to wonder if while serving as secretary were you ever tempted to make your own card dissapear?

  don't give family or new congo your address. even if you give it to your family, they will forward it to the gestapo

  I have no intention of giving anyone our correct address, that's what the po box is for.

  If it were Chicago you move to, go to a Hall out of the territory.

  I'm not actually moving to Chicago, but the place we are moving to is a lot like Chicago in that it is a large metropolitan area that covers more than one state. We will use that to our advantage and go to a cong that is a considerable distance from where we are actually living. We may even be able to find a cong that is in a different circuit. I'm going to find the address of a large apartment complex near the new KH and give them that address (without an apartment number) and get a po box to go with it. If we do this right we shouldn't bump into any jw's who recognize us.

  No No No. They will most likely NOT send cards to your own address. They will need a secretary's address and congregation number. Those could be faked, but it's difficult.

  As nice as it would be to get the cards myself, I have no intention of doing so because it’s too risky. If I were to attempt to intercept the cards, there is no way I would try it with our current cong because they know us too well. I think the secretary would catch on pretty quick and then we would have a big problem on our hands. My primary goal here is to fall through the cracks and there is no way that can happen until we get our cards out of our current cong, and the safest way to do that is through a formal transfer. Now once we get to “Chicago” and the transfer is complete I might then consider pulling a trick like that, but it would take a lot of preperation and I would need some serious help from a former elder.

  It is most likely that your cards will be transferred, you will be pursued and forgotten. It is possible that they will try to contact your family via the old congregation, but typically it is not done.

  If we deem it necessary we could always transfer congs a second time after we get to “Chicago”, thus adding another layer between us and our old cong in “St Louis.”

I don't want to give away any identifying information, so I'm just going to pretend that we're moving from St Louis, MO to Chicago IL. I'm thinking that when we get to Chicago we can find a new cong, attend a few meetings and then ask the secretary for an official transfer. After having our cards sent from the old cong in St Louis to the new cong in Chicago we will then fade from there. So once the transfer is official, do you think we can just stop going? I think we will be able to successfully dodge the elders from the new cong because I intend to give them a fake address and maybe a po box. Also, I’m going to get cheap prepaid cellphones so that we have a separate numbers to give to the new cong and jw family, allowing us to screen calls. I’m hoping that because the new elders in Chicago will barely know us and be unable to find us they will just give up on us. If they do give up, does that mean we will be considered inactive? Can we just “park” our publishers’ cards there indefinitely? Is it possible that when the elders in Chicago can’t find us that they will contact our old cong back home in St Louis and try to get our families involved? Also, if someday say 5 years from now, we decide to move back to St Louis will our old cong then be unable to DF us because they don’t have our cards? Does the old cong keep any record on file of members who have transferred out and where they’ve gone? Could the secretary at our old cong in St Louis call the secretary at the cong in Chicago and tell him to send our cards back? My goal is to get “off the grid.”

  My wife and I are planing a move & fade. Currently we still go to meetings and do field service (some fake) so as not to raise suspicions. Psychologically, I have been out for a while, but it has taken her a lot longer, in part because she has more family ties in the borg. She is finally willing to make the leap now mostly because we want to have children and she is in agreement with me in not wanting to raise them as Jehovah's Witnesses.
  
  The opportunity to check out of Hotel California is now at hand. At work, I will be transferring to a new office out of state. My wife and I will make it sound like I got a big promotion, but its really more of a lateral move. The promotion is a solid reason to give to her family to explain why we are leaving the area. My big question is about our publisher’s cards. I’m guessing that we will have to have them sent to a new congregation near our new home, because if we don’t, the elders and her parents will want to know why. Its not clear to me weather you tell the secretary at your current cong that you are moving and have the cards sent to the new KH before you move, or if you move first and then have the new cong request them; I think it’s the latter but I’m not entirely sure. So should I just find some random Cong somewhere in our new city, ask to have our cards sent there and just never go? If we don’t go to any meetings will the new elders call our old KH back home? Should we go to a few meetings and then fade from the new Cong? Also, I was thinking about trying to find a cong that was dominated by an ethnic and/or racial group that is significantly different from us so that there will be a “cultural disconnect” between us and the new cong. I hoping that with such a disconnect, the new cong won't miss us much as we fade.
