  Is there going to be a 2014 district convention?

  i have heard rumors for over a year now that the wt is not going to have a 2014 dc.

  i know they are having a circuit assembly and special day talk assembly but what about their yearly dc.

  has anybody heard anything?.

  What do you think it costs to rent the arena?

  The one in Maine, sort of near me, looks to be around $1500 a day. That seems even cheaper than I would have thought. For that kind of money I could throw myself one crazy birthday party. And makes those $100+ concert tickets seem absurd.

  I frequently wonder why they keep letting the JWs rent since they don’t seem to bring much to the local economy. They don’t hire any of the arena employees which seemed to be a requirement at a number of centers. (Maybe all that cleaning that gets done after the assembly is spun as a free spring cleaning service for the arena.) They probably don’t bring all that much revenue to the local businesses either, although I guess as long as it is a low use weekend even some revenue is better than none.

  Also interesting that many conventions seem to be at Universities. Wonder if that ever registers with the attendees? They are probably both laughing at each other. The school is thinking “we get our cash from JWs one way or another” and the JWs are thinking “how ironic that we are the ones providing the real education”.

  i believe it is mostly guilt.

  many witnesses pioneer or "reach out" in the religion because they feel guilty.. they may feel they aren't doing enough.

  they may have secretly "sinned" against rules imposed by the organization.

  It is the opposite of motivated. You join that cult because you are lazy and fall for the “Get saved quick” scheme the FDS is selling. Madoff has nothing on them. No thought or work required for everlasting life, we will take care of it all for you. Don’t worry you don’t even have to think we will tell you exactly what to do and when.

  Take this pill and lose weight, follow this plan for easy money and come to the KH and live forever.

  The bible says that you should search like you are searching for a hidden treasure (Prov 2:4-5) not that the treasure will be delivered to your door and spoon fed to you. That one scripture proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the JWs are full of Shite!

  so i happened to peruse jw.org this morning.

  considering the rabid way that the jw's are shamelessly promoting a web site i found it telling that when i, out of curiousity, clicked on the "request a home bible study" link i got this meesage:.

  i just watched beginning of the recently leaked video produced by the wtbts allegedly instructing elders how to treat jws contemplating suicide.

  i am so apalled i cannot even begin to describe it!.

  The more likely scenerio would be that the elders woud grill Mary to see if she had done something else that was causing her depression.

  Mary, did you perhaps have sex with somene else and that is what is bringing on this bout of guilty depression?

  It is odd most of the time it is just numbers for me, but on one of my computers it is (or was) the hard to read characters.

  little known fact, the extra "cute text" is not actually required for the captcha to work. When you type that in you are helping to translate Scanned images into text.

  i do, and i hate it.

  people (mostly my brother) tells me to not fear death and just to enjoy life and so on, but that doesn't seem to help any.

  I've worked hard to overcome negative thinking. I have been working at it diligently for about 2-3 years and it still takes work I'm definitely much better than I used to be though.

  I spent years of my life being depressed and way too much time thinking about how people had done me wrong.

  I am amazed that I almost never find myself thinking about negative stuff anymore.

  I even try to spend some time thinking about what I am grateful for.

  It takes some time but you get better and better at it until the pendulum swings in the other direction where positive thinking starts to become the norm

  A few of the things that have helped me.

  youtube meditation and hypnosis videos. There's also tons of stuff on the web that isn't on youtube.

  Motivational books, from my library, both books and cd's. Many libraries even let you download books and audio books right from their website these days.

  Motivational books on youtube, I can't believe how many books and cd's I find on youtube. Some are copies of the cd some people will actually sit down and read a book and post it on youtube.

  Search for "full book" and then start to narrow down your search when you find stuff you are interested in.

  Youtube will start to help you out by finding related stuff.

  "The secret" was very motivational. Even if it isn't true it helps me to think more positive and I have become more positive.

  Sometimes I feel bad that I wasted so much time as a dub, but honestly thats part of who I am and that's ok.

  Meditation videos on youtube and other places on the web really helped me to relax.

  You can change your feelings by working hard to change what you spend time thinking about.

  People say you become what you think about most of the time.

  Even if not true, thinking negative most of the time will make you depressed.

  When you start thinking about death change the mental subject.

  A couple things that help me to stop thinking about negative stuff is;

  Picturing stop sign when I start thinking negative.

  Taking my negative thoughts and pretending to play them like a record while scratching them with the record needle.

  Some people who are more visual might want to think of them like a micky mouse cartoon.

  The things tha the seemed to help the most were probably the meditation and hypnotism videos on youtube, podcats etc...

  There are also a ton of motivational books that you can listen to and download from youtube.

  Just search for full book on youtube and you will start to find stuff. The more you find the more you will find.

  I also try to start and end my day by thinking about what I am grateful for. It is hard at first but slowly gets easier as time goes by.

  It might seem odd but if you were sick and had to take a pill every day you wouln't feel the least bit odd about doing it.

  I have gone from chronic depression and negative thinking to being happy most of the time.
