This thread lives up to my expectations. No traction.
Russia is off the Radar in the Western world. People are focused on their own national politics.
I am not suggesting any prophetic interpretation such as Vidquin's response. Biblical interpretation appeals to the
same people that spin conspiracy theories. They feel some "power" is secretly controlling everything.
A lot of xJW's are burned out on prognostication of any sort secular or Biblical.
Current JW's in the US are oblivious to anything going on outside the US unless it fits their United Nations/ Babylon the Great concept.
Ever since the Soviet Union collapsed unexepectedly in 1991 they removed the King of the North label from Russia.
It's strange how people in the US think Russia is insignificant. We worry about China with about 500 nukes. We fret over Iran with a nuke in
development. We're scared about N. Korea witha token nuclear arsenal. But Russia has a couple thousand deliverable warheads.
True, they claim they aren't targeted at the US but that's just a macro code button away.
While it's unlikely that Russia would risk an all out frontal attack on the US unless they felt a US attack was imminent. However it could set off a
nuclear device as a method of throwing the USA off balance and then blame it on Muslim terrorist.

Putin has been watching this and he has been opposed to the West getting involved. He no doubt knows what the consequences
could mean for him.
So what are Putin's options. He certainly could kill a lot of the people that are demonstrating. He could at least imprison all the opposition
leaders. But since he claims he is a democratic leader of a democratic country that option would totally discredit
everything he has accomplished and everything he has planned.
His one option is Diversionary War. Diversionary War is more common with democracies than autocracies. Repression is easy for autocrats but
hard for democrats. They create an incident and suddenly you have in-group cohesion.
This was done at the end of Yeltsin's administration. Yeltsin needed to resign before critical evidence of corruption was placed at his feet.
Apartment blocks started blowing up mysteriously. The blame was put on the Chechens although they never claimed responsibility. The second
Chechen war began - Yeltsin resigned and Putin took over as the strong leader who would hold Russia together by bringing the Chechens in line.
Most likely that wouldn't work again. Russia has beat up on everyone in the neighborhood and part of his future program involves wooing the
former Soviet States back into a Eurasian Union.
What if he detonated a small Nuke somewhere. United States, France, Germany? He could do that without blame. Even if the fallout had the
finger print of a Russian bomb he could simply say that the Russian Mafia probably sold a loose nuke to the Jihadists.
Would that be enough of a distraction to quiet the protesters when they see their Western benefactors struggling with such a huge crisis?
We could be entering a very dangerous period.

I remember when Crisis of Conscience first came out. I was a loyal JW. I found the book at the public library which I visited often. I looked it over briefly and purposely put it in the wrong section so people couldn't find it. Every time I went to the library I did that as a matter of "duty".
Eventually I started reading it. It was like taking the face off of a clock and seeing all the gears. You have a rough idea how things work but his books gave an unsusual view. I was surprised that the stuff that I hated in the local congregation went all the way to the top. Mind you I already believed that the flood was at best a local event and I reasoned that god used evolution as the mechanism for creation so I can't credit his books with having a huge influence. In fact I eventually became an athiest and pittied Ray for being trapped in his beliefs. Maybe its not so bad. He died with a hope that when he closed his eyes he would wake up in a better place.

If Newt, the chameleon wins the nomination, then he will win the election.
If Mitt wins the nomination he will lose the election because the Right wing won't vote for him.
Newt knows how to connect with people. Next to Newt Obama is boring. They're both professors. Newt makes it interesting. Obama is a one trick pony.
Newt won't even have to move to the center. He has always been at the center. That is only a disadvantage when he is trying to get the nomination. In the field of Republican candidates Newt will be the last man standing.
The democrats will try to smear Newt about his personal life. The religious Republicans care about peoples personal lives but the independents could care less. Obama has angered his own party with needless compromise.
There is a high likelihood of a serious terror attack before the next election. It will be the Jihadist revenge on Obama for killing Ben Laden and use of drones.
If that happens the Republican candidate will win for sure - even if the economy turns around and is booming.

Education Policy
by Martin Harker ini was raised a catholic until the age of eight which was a normal life.
my mother took everything the jws said literally and this destroyed my schooling and education.. the issue that i have with this religion is that they contradict what they say about education and elders encourage parents to prevent kids from gaining a college or university education as the jw objectives should be the primary goal in life.. they sometimes seemed to encourage education and recently i checked and now they are saying that education leads to alienation and suicide.
they state that university leads to immorality and drug taking.

They say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something. I totaled up the hours I've spent going out in service, getting ready for meetings, attending meetings, studying for meetings, personal study, attending assemblies, pre-convention work, writing talks etc. etc.
Grand total approx. 40,000 hours.
I am an expert at nothing.

This appears to be a trait that is on an evolutionary continuum. If you paint a White dot on a Chimps head while its sleeping it will notice it when it looks in the mirror. It doesn't try to touch the mirror. Instead it sees the dot and picks at it with his finger on his own head - NOT on the reflection.
