after eighteen years of marriage, my husband passed away last year of a terminal liver disease.
today is the aniversary of his death.
he died on april 22, 2001 and he was the love of my life.
Dear Dutchie, I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband is the love of my life and I can't imagine what it would be like to lose him. It's hard to give up something so wonderful isn't it? I've been married for 30 yrs (the dubs made us marry young) and I can't bare the thought that one day we won't be together any more. I am sure I'm not helping, but I do identify with some of your feelings even though I've never experienced such a loss.

a large proportion of the ex jws i know and stay in contact with are pretty much down and out.. i stay in contact with 4 from my past.. out of the 4:.
3 of them are long term unemployed.. 3 of those have psychiatric problems.. 2 of them dont have a stable relationship.. only 1 of them is a reasonable financial success.. my perception of the ex dub world is one of destroyed lives and, too a large degree, hopelessness.i base this perception on those ex dubs i know.
course, they are all hard core apostates.

Joy2, Hubby and me left before the Internet and before "leaving" had caught on. Trail blazers, that's us!! :-) But yeah it was really hard. We didn't know any exjws nor had we read any literature that explained a lot of the problems to us. We left on a gut feeling it was wrong in 1979 and were disfed in 1981 for apostasy (not believing it). I think I got hold of C of C around 1984 and it was a tremendous help. I was only just thinking yesterday that it's time I read it again.
And yes we have prospered as a family but we are not perfect by any stretch. It's just that we don't trumpet ourselves as perfect. My siblings are still in and they are all in bad financial shape. I feel bad for them - almost guilty for getting out and living well. They say the best form of revenge is to live well, but I sure don't get any pleasure from seeing how hard up my siblings are.

I'm in the 25% of doing great catagory. My husband who is an exjw is an associate professor of education. We have a very nice house in Melbourne (we own) and we have our retirement package already saved up in the bank. We have been happily married for 30 years and our two kids are doing well. One is a doctor and the other studying genetics at Uni. We don't drink much (finally broke the long term habit) and we exercise religiously. We try to be crazy but we used up most of our crazy genes during our years in the Organisation.
We are mr and mrs average.

Abaddon, Actually Violet's comment about being a rebel isn't too far off base. A book I read about the Moonies once commented that people who join cults are trying to be non conformists, different, unconventional etc. It's a thought that has stayed with me.

Francois, I don't think you mentioned "Murials Wedding" or "Pricilla Queen of the Desert" - both recent (ish) Aussie movies and very entertaining. I'm just dying for you to see Holy Smoke though. (obviously because of our shared background). Oddly enough my SO didn't enjoy it as much as I did (and yeah my SO is an exdub). Then I got into an argument with JanG on H20 who thought Holy Smoke was irresponsible or something - but I thought it was an excellent movie. A more recent Ozzie movie of worth is "The Interview". Plus "Looking for Alabrandy" (sp?) is ok too.
I love your posts btw. I really will make an effort to get JLS, but I seldom go to a video store these days. I am going to have to make a note to myself as I also have premiture memory failure. (maybe it's not premiture. Maybe I'm kidding myself!)
