Straw that broke the Camels Back
by Perfection Seeker inso, whats the straw that broke the camels back in your life?
what was the final last straw that made you say thats it- no more?
i have so many-for 15 years i kept getting that last straw-and trying to ignore it- but i think the last straw was when my dad died- everyone kept (keeps) giving me the line of bs about never seeing him again unless i go to meetings.

Spider Monkey- if we were "allowed" (lol) to have idols- you'd be mine :-) I can't tell you how many times I wanted to say something like that to an elder- but always played the good little girl. Bet that felt SOOOOOOOOOOO good telling the elder that! :-)

So, whats the straw that broke the camels back in your life? What was the FINAL LAST straw that made you say THATS IT- NO MORE? I have so many-for 15 years I kept getting that last straw-and trying to ignore it- but I think the last straw was when my dad died- everyone kept (KEEPS) giving me the line of BS about never seeing him again unless I go to meetings. One aunt says "Dont you love your dad?" My mom always says "Just come to the meeting. Even if you don't listen, the association is good, those people love you, and then someday maybe you'll hear SOMETHING that will change your life" Oh mother, I DID hear something that changed my life, but it wasn't at the KH! Whats your "Straw?"

My Story
by Mackin ini guess it's time for me to tell my story on this forum.
my parents came into contact with the "truth" during their engagement and so i was born into a borg family and quickly "assimilated.
" the congregation i grew up in however had very liberal views on many subjects, such as higher education, secular careers, and the like.

Mackin- HI! I wish you would give us more "inside info" on the life of a bethelite, and the life of an elder. I would really be interested in more stories of actual experiences, if you ever want to "vent" more :-) I heard someone say once that there were homosexuals in bethel, and people having sex, etc- but I never ever believed any of it. Does it really happen? If so- why do they continue to stay around- why not just leave? I just can't believe the amount of elders that leave- missionairies, etc. I wonder what the "breaking point" is for people. You said personalities run the congregations- that is so true! We had one loud mouthed run the whole place elder who pushed his weight & his beliefs all around- and people always buckled to him- never wanted to stand up to him or say anything bad. He ran the whole place- and everyone knew it. If you weren't in his "in" crowd- you didn't get good parts, you were assigned bad territory, old not fun people to work with out in service, etc. What a crock!

Does being called an 'apostate' upset you?
by wholewheat indo all of you ex-jehovah's witnesses get upset when you are called an apostate?
you all call each other apostates, so why should you all get upset if i call you apostates?
if you don't like being called 'apostate', what title would you prefer?

I think the whole word "APOSTATE" is misunderstood. The witnesses make it sound like if you're apostate that you don't believe in God, and that you are a lost cause. The ACTUAL definition is:
Main Entry: apos.ta.syPronunciation: &-'ps-t&-sE
Function: nounEtymology: Middle English apostasie, from Late Latin apostasia, from Greek, literally, revolt, from aphistasthai to revolt, from apo- + histasthai to stand -- more at STAND
Date: 14th century
Inflected Form(s): plural -sies
1 : renunciation of a religious faith
2 : abandonment of a previous loyaltySo, are we "apostates" yes- we have renounced our former faith. Does that mean we don't believe in God? No. It just means we don't agree that the witnesses have a direct & only like to Jehovah (God) and that we are finding him in our own way, or in another religion. I always believed that apostates were so bad- and they didn't believe in God or Jehovah. But, actually, most apostates do believe in God- just not the organization. I am an apostate, in the way that yes, I have abandoned my previous faith.
I like how the people refer to the use of the N word, or blacks, but also for overweight people- you can't say "You're fat" and get away with it, but a fat person can. I guess the main thing here is "Don't call ANYONE names" Who are we to judge others? Besides, if you're on this site- it is usually because you have left the organization, and you want to be bitter, or voice your stories, or find friends, or hear others experiences, etc.

Double Standards
by Perfection Seeker indid anyone else have witness parents who the congregation thought were the "model" family, yet behind closed doors all hell broke loose?
i remember a time when my family was choosen to do a part at an assembly about the ideal family- yet behind the scenes, we were beat, yelled at, sworn at, never studied, had a family from hell, yet others always commented how "perfect" and christian our family was.
being a witness leaves deep & permanent scars.

Hey Jewel- funny we were in the same circuit- probably counted the ceiling tiles at the same time! :-) How old? 33 here- do you still have family in the org? Mine is- poor group is up counting ceiling tiles in Minnesota- can't believe they ENJOY the 3 days of 8 hours of speakers. I always hated & resented it- was in since I was 5- tried to leave since I was 15. How about you?

Well, my parents SURELY didn't spoil me then! I got the rod, the broom, the belt, the board- they didn't spare ANYTHING when It came to me! AND, they'd get mad if what they used on me broke! Do you have children sweet pea? Can you imagine doing ANY of this to a child?!?! I remember one time we were shopping, and my mom slapped my face- a lady came & said- do you want me to report you, and have them take your child away?!!? All it did was piss my mom off more- so got it again in the car. From then on- she was more careful in public but ALOT less careful at home! Man- there should be MORE "crisis of conscience" books out there- personal stories, support groups, etc. One question- if you could get hypnotized to forget ALL witness stuff, would you? I would- in a heart beat- as long as I could have my other memories- not that they were that great or anything. I have told BOTH therapist I've been to that I wish I could bump my head & forget EVERYTHING & start over. Hmm....maybe I'll try that :-)
P.S. Jewel- I'm sure noone on here will "tell on me" If people are on here- they are bitter, too, as well, and SURELY wouldn't support another disfellowshipping! Still, a little scarey since this is the first time I've been on the sites or spoke against the org- but it sure feels good! Did you see that post about the merchandise? Gave my life to the organization, and all I got was this lousy tshirt- TOO FUNNY! :-)

Ideas for merchandise
by Simon ini think i mentioned this some time ago but never had time to do anything about it.
i'm thinking of offering merchandise on the site for a bit of fun and also to help with the site expenses (although i don't expect it to generate a huge amount).
i think catchy logo's and phrases are the best.
