My life After Bethel Part 1

the day i left it was pouring rain........i really screwed up, i found out the night before, as i was packing things up, that i had way under estimated how much stuff i had.

i had two large suit cases (that i could barely shut the lids on) and a large army duffel bag.

i would guess about 200 pounds of shit......my van was in rhode island with the engine out of it.

Brooklyn news on sending the elderly packing

johnny the bethelite on this program talks about the older bethelites being targeted by watchtower.they are getting rid of those at bethel who are 65-87 years old, some being anointed even the widows of former governing body members who gave decades of loyal service time to the watchtower organization.. the reasons the very elderly are being expelled are money in that for their age range they cost so much to cloth, fed, and medicate, having problems from high blood pressure to dementia.

there were other people who either killed themselves or tried to kill themselves while they were at "the house of god.

one person who did kill himself was richard wheelock, press room overseer ......he jumped out of a window at the watchtower farm one day.

it seemed, he was never quite the same after his wife "willy" died.

That's a good point Lieu! They know their classics and classical languages etc. ( and know about wines, Cognacs and cigars ;) ).

GB Members: What's the Story?

over the past few decades i've met many individual jws, but i've always been curious about the gb members themselves and about service at bethel.

first, do gb members fraternize with regular rank and file members or do they only sell out each other?

when i was a methodist, it didn't take me long to figure out that our minister and his wife were frequently invited to dinner, but i never heard of him actually inviting members to his house for dinner.

I notice again a difference between U.S. and europeans. I guess if you would ask my parents who are the members of the GB they still would mention Schroeder or Barr. Here they are not focused on the GB ... Why this difference?

I don't know why you liked Wallen. He was in charge of us missionaries, a few kind letters when my wife was ill, he met us once in our assignment but being in the elevator in the Bossert with a couple of guys he did as not knowing us. Afraid of entering in a conversation about my wife's health. I understand that but than get a wordly job.

my work colleague in germany sent my this article in an email and it is perhaps one of the most disturbing things i have heard yet.

i have been hearing about many of these recent homophobic and transphobic hate crimes taking place across europe but this one slipped through the cracks.

Reading the Yearbook

i just remembered something from the past as a jw.. in the 60s and 70s our dad would have a mini study at the dinner table every day on that days text from the yearbook.

one of us would read the text and then dad would ask questions or make comments about it.. this was, of course, on top of a weekly family study.. since there were usually about 7 of us at the table it required a number of yearbooks to be purchased.

the society came up with genius ways of why we needed so many of their publications, i am assuming this was suggested by them.. this daily ritual used to be done at breakfast to start with but ended up not working out so well, then it was changed to dinner time.

THE same with the TS. Suddenly everybody had to purchase the proclaimer book. Every scripture etc. Smart system.

No Sports Cars Please!

i read on a jw forum that jw's came in for disapproval if they drove either sports cars or 2-door cars.

the reasoning was that a driver couldn't easily take fellow dubbies out preaching in such a vehicle.

was that ever official policy or just local nonsense from a grumpy po?.
