Designs, that depends on how you define the Dollar in terms of gold. Gold, for practical purposes, is almost infinitely divisible. So no, a new global supply of gold is not needed in order to return to a gold standard. The US has gone off the gold standard before, like during the civil war, and has returned to it. During that period, gold went from $20 to $200, and yet a transition was possible. It could be done in a gradual/graduated manner, as has happened in the past.

@DGP
I find it curious that Wonderment says that Spanish is "closer to Hebrew". I suppose he means "closer to Hebrew than English". Well, it's not. I happen to know that because we took long lessons in the origins of Spanish while we were in school, on a subject called, erm, "Spanish". But, for the benefit of others, I am copying a link to "Influences on the Spanish language" (Wikipedia): https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Influences_on_the_Spanish_language
Great post, but I think that Spanish might be more similar to Hebrew than this leads to believe. Arabic had a huge influence on the language, and Arabic belongs to the same language family as Hebrew. (I am also a Spanish speaker of Latin American Spanish).

Anthony Weiner vs Ron Paul:

Kind of funny to see Weiner advocating government censorship for public indecency after what has happened. The irony.

Is the spring/summer weather in your area 'odd' this year?
by AK - Jeff inmuch of our spring was very cold, intermingled with the occasionally 'extreme' heat.
so far summer [which started this week] is cooler than any i can recall, but extremely wet and high humidity.
the entire house feels like a wet blanket.. the doom-sayer types are constantly remarking how this must mark 'something' if not the end.

It has been pretty typical here. Rainy season started right on schedule. Highs were in the mid 90s in the mid afternoon before the afternoon rains started up last week.

"5 Myths Atheists Believe about Religion"
by leavingwt ini think this article provides enough red meat for an interesting discussion.
as the title suggests, the author discusses five main points.. .

Hi Zid, if you don't think the article is accurate, I'd like to know why. I'd regret posting something inaccurate. It has been reported in other sources, and discussed on atheist sites.

Dude, thanks for posting this! Amazing. Am reading Jared Diamond's "Gun Germs and Steel" right now, which starts out with a discussion of the people of that place. I wish I knew where the soundtrack was from.

Atheists making friends and influencing people.
And no, this is not "The Onion." (I'll excerpt the first part)
New York Atheists Angry Over 'Heaven' Street Sign Honoring Sept. 11 Victims
A group of New York City atheists is demanding that the city remove a street sign honoring seven firefighters killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks because they say the sign violates the separation of church and state.
The street, “Seven in Heaven Way,” was officially dedicated last weekend in Brooklyn outside the firehouse where the firefighters once served. The ceremony was attended by dozens of firefighters, city leaders and widows of the fallen men.
“There should be no signage or displays of religious nature in the public domain,” said Ken Bronstein, president of New York City Atheists. “It’s really insulting to us.” Bronstein told Fox News Radio that his organization was especially concerned with the use of the word “heaven.” “We’ve concluded as atheists there is no heaven and there’s no hell,” he said.
“And it’s a totally religious statement. It’s a question of separation of church and state.” He was nonplussed over how his opposition to the street sign might be perceived – especially since the sign is honoring fallen heroes. “It’s irrelevant who it’s for,” Bronstein said. “We think this is a very bad thing,”
David Silverman, president of American Atheists, agreed calling on the city to remove the sign. “It implies that heaven actually exists,” Silverman told Fox News Radio.

DC Brownie Points: Attend Twice. Ever do that?
by Open mind ina recent post i made on watchman duty reminded me of something that a few uber-righteous jws would do.
work in volunteer service at your own assigned district convention, but since you missed so much of the program, re-attend the whole thing again on another weekend and just "focus on the program".
i remember one super self-righteous guy talking me into going back to re-attend a saturday once.

Many times when I was single. It had nothing to do with listening to the program though.
Ditto.
