I did lots of research on Christian history myself, come to think of it. It is pretty much de rigeur when you are a born in JW questioning everything you were taught.

How to win a religious argument
by Terry inone of the greatest chess players who ever lived was jose raul capablanca.. .
his was a natural talent from age 4. he became world chess champion and had an undefeated record for 9 years before high blood pressure began affecting his game.. capablanca's great technique in the end game was his greatest asset.
he only needed the smallest advantage to win by force.. consequently, the great cuban chessmaster would play simple temporizing moves provoking his opponent into over-reaching himself.. eventually, his opponent made an error.

Growing up, I recall how my best friends father (also Cuban) was a chess genius. He could have been a Grand Master, and he was once competitve. Unfortunately, the cult frowned on such pursuits. Informally, my father was quite an aficionado, purchasing early electronic chess games and playing with fellow geeks that hadnt applied their chess skills to the Watchtower game. I wonder where they are today?

Why Won't They Carbon Date This?
by Perry in"for the first time in human history a dinosaur fossil is presenting us with the opportunity to see what a living dinosaur looked like.
in 2001 a field research team unearthed the worlds most complete dinosaur fossil, a brachylophosaurus nicknamed leonardo.
this incredible dinosaur has all of its skin covering its body, missing only a bit on the head and tail.

2 hours and no further comments?
I cannot believe I have killed a creationist thread on JWN.
I hereby resign. Upon completion of this post, I will fall upon a sharp kosher dill pickle spear (fresh so it is still crisp of course), upon which my entire fortune will be willed to richarddawkins.net.
And may Almighty God have mercy on my immortal soul.

Perry is intellectually dishonest.
And no, it isn't because he is, by nature, a less honest person than any of the rest of us.
It is because he refuses to reliquish a view that withers under honest intellectual scrutiny
His intellectual dishonesty is the byproduct of cogntitive dissonance.

And then there is the Haldane dilemma,
Haldane's dilemma assumes sequential selection for beneficial alleles. That is a false assumption. Thousands of traits are being selected for simultaneously. Genetic evolution is a massively parallel process, not a serial one.
But you must know this, since you have raised Haldane several times on this board over the years, and several times it has been pointed out as false in the real world to you. Why, then, do you continue to do it?

A Few Moral Dilemmas
by DT inhow do you judge what makes a certain action moral?
do you feel that morality is determined by universal rules (either determined by a deity or by general agreement) or do you feel that it is more important to consider the consequences of a decision and its affect on the greater good depending on the details of the situation?.
for example, would you be willing to kill one person to save two, or ten, or a million?

1 is easy. respect the dying brother's wishes If he is mentally competent, it is his right to leave this life and dispose of his estate as he sees fit.
2 is easy. If the patient is mentally competent and wishes end of life release from suffering, then that is his right to choose as well.
3 is crazy. I would never agree to participate in such a scenario. let them figure it out.

I also has a dog that could be described as "poorly" right now.
by JonathanH ini was just reading sprout's topic on their poorly dog, and this comes at a time my dog seems to be having problems as well.
i have a french bulldog that's about five or six years old, and just yesterday he started acting strange.
he was trembling and shaking really bad, and i was worried at first.

I have a mini Australian Shepherd and a retriever/bearded collie (just a guess) and we have problems too: Our dogs' breaths smell like dog food.
