mulan called me yesterday afternoon to tell me her dad had suffered a stroke.
i did talk to my dad last night and he seemed to think that grandpa was going to be ok. i had a birthday party with nine little girls all afternoon and was completely out of touch as a result.. i think she could use a hug, don't you?.

Trinty Brochure Refuted
by hooberus inseveral years ago the watchtower society produced the brochure "should you believe the the trinity" below are 3 specific refutations.
"why you should believe in the trinity" by robert bowman (easy to read book, great for beginners).. available all over the web.
2. yes ... you should believe in the trinity by christy harvey (more detailed and specific).

Thank you for the links, they are all good stuff. However… (a big however! ) Whilst I favour objective criticism of any crappy Watchtower brochure, you must agree that lack of belief in the Trinity is certainly not the preserve of the Jehovah's Witnesses. In the interests of impartiality I would say that reading different viewpoints on the subject is much better than simply reading just pro-trinity material.
For instance "The Doctrine of the Trinity: Christianity's Self-Inflicted Wound" by Anthony Buzzard and Charles Hunting is an excellent book on the subject and was recommended to me by DakotaRed.

Goodbye London Arena!
by Matty into all those who have been to the convention at the london arena, one of the london's most important concert venues for many years, there is one more chance to go before it closes forever.
that is if you have a strong stomach!
it is going to be demolished and subject to planning approval, a massive 1,000-flat tower block will take its place.
-
Matty
No? Well, it's a very good venue - I can't see why they shouldn't keep it until they refit the dome.
The Articles about it, including the link above would rather say that Beyonce Knowles, Justin Timberlake or Eminem were the last people to perform there, but unfortunately that isn't the case!

One last desperate BTTT in the hope that someone might reply!
Well, today's the day that we say goodbye to the London Arena. Will the dubs be pulling all the fixtures off as souvenirs today?!
I always found it a really comfortable venue, an excellent place to sleep through the sessions, much better than Twickenham!

Hey Brooklyn! United KINGDOM Upset You, Does It?
by Englishman ini was just browsing through some of the official sites statistics here:http://www.watchtower.org/statistics/worldwide_report.htm.
i wanted to see how the dubbies were doing on my home patch, so i scrolled down to where i expected to find "united kingdom".
hmm.

I suppose if you want to be particularly pedantic, just "Britain" on its own may be confused with "Bretagne" or "Brittany" which is in the north west part of France. The English describe the area as "Brittany", but other languages just say "Britain". However, "Great Britain" or "Grande-Bretagne" saves this confusion.

Hmm! Am I the only one here ever to go to the London Arena for a convention? Am I the only one here that's sad that London will no longer have any kind of major concert venue until they refurbish the dome?

What Results When JW's Associate ONLY With Fellow JW's?
by minimus ini clearly see that jw's are constantly being told to only associate with fellow believers if at all humanly possible.
there is to be either no association or at the minimum, very little socializing with non-witnesses.
in your opinion, what does this produce?
-
Matty
Yes, it certainly is a bubble minimus, you described it very well. I now see my family totally engulfed in the Witness religion with no thought or comprehension that it just a ridiculous fantasy. Many of my family are home schooled, which makes it worse for them as interaction with non-witnesses is virtually non-existent.

added a warm feeling to my life.
i have always tried to remember that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I'm sure you must realise that words are very difficult in these circumstances. You mean a hell of a lot to us here and on the other boards you have posted. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and giving so much of yourself.

Crystal Palace Assembly
by yxl1 indoes anyone know if they still hold assemblies at crystal palace?

One year in the early 70's they held a district convention at the Crystal Palace football ground at Selhurst Park, I think it was '72. Anyway, after which they resumed back at Twickenham and they have had conventions there ever since. This one at Selhurst Park was notable as it was the last ever District Convenntion that had evening sessions up to after 9pm at night.
More recently, from the mid 80's onward they had conventions at the Athletics Stadium at Crystal Palace. They had them there for many many years, but because a lot of the older ones were complaining that there was little shelter from the elements (only a small part of the stadium is covered) it was decided that the convention would be relocated to the London Arena, a large indoor venue.
Tomorrow the very last convention is being held at the London Arena, in fact it will be the very last event there of any kind. I started a thread about it but have received no replies - boo hoo!
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/14/53455/1.ashx
So where will they hold the convention next year? All I do know is that Twickenham holds 80,000 people sitting but no more than 20,000 actually attend and so there would be plenty of room for the Witnesses from the east. However the problems with travel and accommodation was the reason why they broke away those circuits in the first place, so who knows what will happen. -

getting along or avoidance.....you decide
by SpiceItUp inin the spirit of minimus, as i just caught his thread about getting along with others here, and it posed a seperate question for me that actually came into play for me yesterday.
i'm not going to go into detail on that but the question remains nonetheless.. where do you draw the line at getting along with someone or merely just avoiding confrontation?
this comes into play in everyones life.

I got walked on so much I should have been called "matt".
A reference to me here eh perhaps?
I don't particularly like confrontation for confrontation's sake. Theres nothing wrong being diplomatic and concilliatory, I don't consider this cowardly in any way.
