He knows what brings the money in now the hits have dried up. Speaking from personal experience, going to a George Benson gig is like going to a dub convention - they're everywhere to be seen - if he left the troof then he wouldn't have half as many people going to his concerts or buying his cd's!

"apostate" columnist
by kgfreeperson insylvester brown began his first column in the st. louis post-dispatch talking about his experience going door to door as a very young jw.
later in the column he indicated he is no longer a jw.
will jws be subjected to disfellowshipping if they admit to reading his column?

Stephen Bates of The Guardian has been referred to as "apostate" by the JW Hierarchy, not that he has ever been a Witness, it's just that he has been very helpful to our cause in exposing the Watchtower Society. Because of this dubs have tended to blacklist this newspaper.

Do you have more friends or enemies?
by JH ingood friends are quite rare.
they say that you can count the number of good friends you have on the fingers of one hand.. .
i was just wondering, do you have more "good friends" or enemies?

As a Jehovah's Witness it's certainly difficult to make good friends as submission to God and the Organisation comes before anything else in your life. Most congregations seem to be a hotbed of gossip and backstabbing as everyone vies for position in the pecking order. This kind of climate doesn't encourage you to trust anyone in the congregation as your friend and confidante.
Most of the friends I have now are the ones I've made here, I've resigned myself to losing all the ones I made that are still in the org.
As far as enemies are concerned you need to differentiate between people you don't like and people who don't like you. I don't know if anyone really hates my guts, but the idea of being disliked by anyone unsettles me greatly. If someone said that they hated me I would try my very best to find out the reason and try to patch things up with them. Some people have a very laissez faire attitude to such things but I don't. I make a point of being civil and courteous to everyone and so if people don't like me then I would hope that it was not for want of me trying to patch things up. Hatred is a very negative emotion that eats you up and will eventually destroy you.

why do you post?
by SpiceItUp inseems its been awhile since we had one of these questions go round so i figured with all the newbies lately we shuld get a new one going.
i get to do it cause well umm errr..... i've been here for over a year (and yes noone noticed *sniff* *sniff* but thats ok).
soooo without further ado on to the question at hand..... why do you post here?.
-
Matty
I originally posted because I felt lost and bewildered after losing my faith, and had so many questions, but I now primarily post because I definitely feel part of a large community of friends. I have made so many wonderful buddies here that I would be absolutely loathed to ever lose touch with.

Home Schooling
by yxl1 inmy sister-in-law's husband was raised as a jehovahs witness in north yorkshire and was educated at home by his mother along with his 5 brothers and sisters.
i remember many years ago when it first became common knowledge, many brothers and sisters thought that this method of education was ideal for witnesses who wanted to remain separate from the world, but all the kids from our congregatation had a state education.
i guess my question is, was home education only limited to my in-laws husbands family, or were any of you educated at home?
-
Matty
Obviously we have to differentiate between regular home-schooling and Witness home-schooling! One I don't have a problem with at all, but the other I have a big problem with!
I wasn't home-schooled myself but members of my Witness family were, and I must say that the result on the child is quite scandalous. In my experience Jehovah's Witness home schooled children are often severely socially retarded. Because their contact with "worldly" children is virtually non-existent, Witness parents are able to instigate an extremely distorted fear of the outside world. They are able to control every single part of their child's lives, ensuring that they don't come into contact with anything that could "damage" their "spirituality".
