In 1978, the society released the first of the audio cassette versions of the New World Translation. The first book to be released was the gospel according to John. As a child who was also a keen Bible student I thought it was great as it meant that I could follow along with the reading and get all the pronunciation correct.
This first two cassettes of the book of John was read by none other than Ray Franz, although I wasn't aware of this at the time – we used to get a lot of American brothers from Brooklyn Bethel give talks back in the 70's at Twickenham and through the PA system it wasn't easy to distinguish between them all, although I still remember how Nathan Knorr and Fred Franz sounded, in fact both of them occasionally attended my congregation as it was one of the prominent congregations near Mill Hill bethel. But I do remember thinking how well he read the Bible and in subsequent years as various other bible books were released I couldn't understand why "that brother" wasn't ever used again. If you get the book of John from your local congregation now you will find that somebody else is now reading it, the Ray Franz Tape was withdrawn quickly only about three years after it was recorded. How childish and spiteful of the Watchtower Society to get someone else go through the rigmarole of recording it again. (I think I'm the first person to ever mention this on the internet, I find no other mention anywhere - apologies if I'm incorrect)
Which leads me to the point – although the readers of the bible books are "anonymous", I'm sure that a lot of the people out there in JWD world would be able to tell me who were the actual readers of the books, so come on ex-bethelites, tell me who read which book?

kingdom melodies on compact disk
by hatz1 in.
the wt-society released nine cds called "kingdom melodies - orchestral arrangements of songs from 'sing praises to jehovah 1-9'".. on http://classical-music.mainseek.com/39794/25-22612/wbx26xt_society/kingdom_melodies_%28cd_1%29/page0.html there are the tracks of cd number 1; but i think it's not the correct order.. has anybody the list of the tracks on the cds???.
but i don't mean the cd "sing praises to jehovah" or "singing songs to jehovah".

I don't know if this is what you mean but you will find that Kingdom Melodies 1 through to 3 were updated and re-recorded because when they were first released they had the songs from the 1966 songbook before "Sing Praises to Jehovah" was released. This might explain the differences between your old cassette version of No1 and the newer CD version of No1.

What's The Most Ridiculous Thing Taught or Believed By Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inwhat do you think??
?
-
Matty
The most ridiculous thing taught by Jehovah's Witnesses has got to be the understanding that they had about the heart. Far from just being something that just pumped blood around the body, it was believed that the heart had influence and motivational qualities, like a second brain. This lunacy was taught until relatively recently.

Facing The Lion By Simone Liebster
by SpannerintheWorks inis anybody familiar with this book?
from a review i read, i know it is about the experiences of a young jw girl in .
nazi germany, but i was wondering if anybody here has any opinion on the book.

It is already a popular book in Jehovah's Witness circles, my family already have a copy of it as it's "Society Approved". Don't interpret this as a non-recommendation though - it's a very good read nonetheless.

Dr. Kelly found dead.
by Stan Conroy inplease check out this link.. http://www.channel4.com/news/2003/07/week_3/19_kelly.html.
notice the part closer to the bottom, where dr. kelly e-mailed someone and stated that he was looking forward to getting back to work.
seems like an odd thing to say if you are planning to kill yourself.

It's also interesting that the Rupert Murdoch newspapers are now laying the blame totally on the BBC, using very emotive language.

by avengers inbut not according to me.. for the number of jws still going strong the ones here is but a handful, so mabye most of you are just pitiful whiners who should accept a little personal responsibility for your lives and quit trying so hard to blame someone or something.
northern girl.. .
and is the following reasonable?you have the right to do anything you want on this board ... it would be 'nice' if the name didn't say 'forum for jehovah's witnesses' though.

I must admit that the first time I saw this site I thought it was a forum for Jehovah's Witnesses only.
The very first time I came here I saw a statement that said that it was "the place for Jehovah's Witnesses from all around the world to meet and make new friends." I thought "That's nice! I will be able to meet some brothers and sisters from around the world." As soon as I saw the content of this site though I recoiled in horror and quickly went away - it was as if Satan himself had leapt out of the screen. That was about three years ago I think, but I've changed a lot since then, I'm no longer a naive and ignorant Jehovah's Witness but I can still remember how I felt that day right now and it serves to me as reminder as to what a high control religion can do to a person.
I know that statement has thankfully since disappeared, but I think that it should be clear on the home page that this is a forum for everyone, not just Jehovah's Witnesses and that the forum is not heavily censored like purelanguage.net and Witness Zone. -

Goodbye Hair.
by CoolBreeze ini haven't posted in a long time, but i did say i'd pop in every once in a while if i had something of significance to say.
well i thought this was significant enough to share.. a few weeks ago in a moment of altruism i had my hair tested for the "locks of love" program, which is a hair donation program for chemotherapy patients who have lost their hair.
today i received a letter stating that my hair meets all the requirements for donation.

Hi CoolBreeze! Was wondering how you were doing the other day! I can't see the pic either, I don't have permissions or something.
Well, well! CoolBreeze with short hair - you better tell any JWs you know that it's not in preparation for a comeback - ewww!
