I think you are spot on there. I always thought that women are impressed by openness, sensitivity and honesty but deep down they aren't really like that - although they might say that they are.
the relating to non-jw's thread made me think a lot about myself and where i am and what im doing now.
i have to figure out where im going wrong!
has anyone had similar experiences to me as far as relationships with non-witnesses are concerned?.

quote.
"i feel you should remember where you got the truth.
first, who was the one feeding you to where you are now.".
I think that's really strange, what a nut! If I wanted to encourage you to "mend your ways", I would be a little more tactful than that!
okay, i thought since us apostates have been called bitter and angry and unable to see both sides of an issue lately i'd share a positive story about a sister in my old congregation.. this sister was my best friend's grandma.
she was in general just a kind sweet grandma type woman.
every year, she'd put together a "give away.
I have very fond memories of older ones while I was growing up, this is familiar stuff to me. I think that is what is keeping me in at the moment, there are a few elderly brothers and sisters around now that I love so much, and it would break their hearts If I left. It's funny how (sweeping generalisation comin up) the post-war generation of jws seem to have forgotten how to be a real christians! Its all about love, not dogma!
I'm fillin' up!!

The “Relating to Non-JW's” thread made me think a lot about myself and where I am and what I’m doing now. I have to figure out where I’m going wrong! Has anyone had similar experiences to me as far as relationships with non-witnesses are concerned?
Here’s the story: I keep my JW association pretty much under wraps socially, and I don’t like to talk about it at work – I don’t like to be thought of as a weirdo. The society repeatedly warns of “worldly” association, but they make out that it is a constant threat! Several times in the past they have said that because of our chaste conduct we are supposed to be more attractive to “people in the world”, and so we must all be on guard – “worldly” folk are all out to have their wicked way with us!
Well, I beg to differ, because my upbringing has had quite the opposite effect. I find it difficult to form relationships to say the least. I feel quite emotionally and socially retarded, and so I can’t compete in the dating game.
Some time ago I decided that it would be really unfair of me to think about having any kind of relationship with anyone “in the truth”, being that I was losing my faith. But now when I get close enough to someone, and feel that I can trust them enough to tell them about the way I was brought up, all about my family etc…, well, after that I generally don’t see them for dust! Surely I can’t lie about myself? Can anyone advise me on how to handle this problem? How do I come clean - how do I approach the subject without frightening them off like I always do? When is the best time to say something?

A lot of convention speakers insert claptrap in their talks, maybe to massage their own egos. It also pads out an way-under-time talk!
Do they have it in their notes?
Perhaps like this:
"Brothers and sisters, aren't you glad to be here?"
(Pause for long applause)
"The faithful and discreet slave have certainly given us food at the proper time haven't they brothers?"
(pause for long applause)
i was watching the hockey game yesterday and i thought i heard 'booing' during canada's national anthem.
earlier in the week the same thing occurred during the raptor's playoff game.. as some are aware canada has been mourning and burying their 4 dead soldiers due to the incompetence of an american fighter pilot who dropped a bomb on them while they were carrying out training exercises.
flags are flying at half-mast as canadians try to make sense of such a careless mistake.. i find it hard to believe any civilized person would show such disrespect to another country to 'boo' them during their national anthem at any time, and more so during a time of mourning because of death caused directly by american hands.. i sincerely hope american media chastised their countrymen who showed such insensitive, classless, ignorant and disrespectful behavior to their neighbours.
You are right, and I feel awful when I do it.

By 'Brits' you mean English don't you? Scotland supporters conduct is usually exemplary. But they aren't in the world cup, so tough crap to them!

England soccer fans often boo during other countries national anthems, its pathetic really and I'm sure nobody here is surprised to know that.
I tell you what is even more disrespectful - remaining seated during the national anthem - I know because I do it (only when I'm with other JWs). Is that cowardly or brave - I'm not sure!!
someone in a church i once attended changed their name from mim to something else because mim was the name of a famous witch.. should jws have/give(to their children)1st names that are of pagan origin eg phoebe?
Probably being a bit mean really, some of those names are kinda nice. It's not really the names themselves, it's the reasoning behind the naming - it just seems rather pious.
Do you remember the episode of the Simpsons where Miss Krabappel was about to show a facts-of-life sex education film to the class but before she does she says "Ezekiel and Ishmael, in accordance with your parents' wishes, you may step out into the hall and pray for our souls".
Who's kids do you think THEY are?! (A clue, look at the top of your screen)
i've always been curious about the process they use to appoint someone as a minsterial servant, elder or pioneer.
do they claim these appointments are made by holy spirit?
i am aware that the elder body has to first approve it and then send it through bethel or the circuit overseer, but i'm not sure what happens next.
Nepotism. Yes, if you are a son of an elder you stand a much better chance of being appointed too. We've all seen this haven't we?
Its not what you know...
