This issue has always angered me to boiling point. And I know it annoys many sisters too, but they put up with it, just the same as they put up with King David being put up as some kind of wonderful exemplar.

DB, yes, a huge burden has fallen onto the elders while this stance is kept. I doubt if it will be changed.

Neither psychiatrists nor costly medications helped her to overcome this depression. Several times, she said, she was hospitalized, but no improvement resulted. Her household was taken care of by servants because she herself was not able to take care of anything. She tried to commit suicide because she had lost interest in life. Nothing seemed to help.Then, she told the lady, one day Jehovah's Witnesses called and left her some Bible literature. That sparked her interest in God's Word, and she began to read the Bible all the way through. Something started to change within her. She began to get up in the morning and take an interest in her household. She finally decided to take care of the house by herself and found she was able to do so. It was as though she had never been sick! This made her feel very happy.
She did not return to the psychiatrist. Her will to live was stimulated by her knowledge of God's Word, and this proved to be the best medicine. She looked for Jehovah's Witnesses, and they started a regular study with her. She also began to attend meetings, and very soon she got baptized. No longer bothered with depression, she now finds joy in serving Jehovah.

You can understand the WTS standpoint as far as seeing psychiatrists/analysts is concerned. It has always been roundly condemned, and it’s no wonder.
It's very clear what is causing the severe depression that many Jehovah's Witnesses have; it’s their religion! It has certainly been the source of much of the despair that I have had in my life. I’m very sure most professionals would waste no time pointing this out to any witness that sees them!

blondie, that is so true. Jehovah's Witnesses are often branded as stupid and unintelligent, and I can certainly understand this point of view from the standpoint that I am in at the moment. But coming to that conclusion is rather over-simplistic. People are so diverse in their emotional makeup, it is something that is very difficult to gauge.
Perhaps the words "Stupid" and "Unintelligent" should not be thought of as the same.

there are so many posts it's hard ot keep up, and keeping the posters seperated is just impossible.. i forget sometimes that people are leaving the wts everyday, and certainly a bunch of them end up here.
but, is there any data showing the number of new posters?.
We hit 4000 on 1st January (Well, not exactly 'we' - I was just a lurker then!)
We hit 5000 on 27th April
And there are 5210 now, on the 17th May.

ConnieLynn, Thanks for clarifying this. I think that people who have been rejected by society, and this includes people with limited capabilities in whatever sense, are naturally looking for something better - life can be tough for them and Jehovah's Witnesses seem to provide what they need. People who have good health, a good education and a good income are not usually in that same frame of mind to be open to the witnesses.

I never heard one answer in any Watchtower study, book study or any other study where someone put their hand up and said they didn't agree with what was said
Meeting participation is a complicated thing, and different JWs answer in different ways for different reasons. The way Watchtower studies are discussed are a combination of blind moronic obedience, sycophancy toward the Watchtower Overseer, the big fear of being reprimanded by elders or parents and the determination of a congregation pecking order - well, you might as well have a congregation full of parrots.

Seriously though, an IQ is supposed to be a measure of someone's intelligence; the higher the IQ, the greater the intelligence, but I don't believe this because these IQ tests assume that there is only one kind of intelligence, we are too diverse to quantify intelligence in this way. There are musical geniuses, mathematical geniuses and language geniuses, but these tests only measure a few types of cognitive logic. The only thing that you accurately can say about IQ test is that it measures your IQ!
As far as I can see JWs are generally stoopid, this cannot be denied - but the exact same people, i.e. ex-JWs, after the cloud has gone away, seem to be far more intelligent than most, or rather, more appreciative of education, and this forum bears this out very clearly.

I think you have it there, Witnesses are just like anyone else - but with a closed mind, potential is severely restricted.
