A happy holiday to you too! In England we don't really celebrate Halloween that much particularly, it's seen as mainly an American holiday; we have Guy Fawkes Night on November 5th instead.

the watchtower magazines have a section entitled "life stories" where the testimonies of persons who have spent their entire lives in the service of the organization or bethel are narrated.
in the september 1st 2002 watchtower magazine on page 25 i found the story of gladys allen who recounts almost 60 years of her life spent as first a regular then special pioneer.
typical of miss allen but evident in many other of these testimonies, i find that mention is made of wts publications, governing body members, theocratic schools attended etc.
Thank you for pointing this out. I'm quite sure this is not intended by her, but it typically shows Jehovah's Witnesses' priorities.
It's certainly a testament to the way the Witnesses control your mind in that you only notice these things once you leave the religion.

Clearly impressed, he buys a pack. Upon getting home he announces to his wife the purchase he just made.

she passed away in her sleep last night.
I just can't believe she's gone and I won't be getting any more of her emails. She used to post a lot in alt.religion.jehovahs-witn as well. She will be hugely missed. My deepest sympathy to her family.

whats with the jw's and that insane clapping that goes on at assemblies?

not just at the conclusion of a talk (which is somehow expected and simply courteous), but the intra-talk claps where sometimes no-one know if its a clap-moment or not..... so the speaker drones on and on, and then comes the voice inflection change, either louder ot higher-pitched, and then you know its coming: another clap-moment......*groan*.
They do it after a regular meeting? Now that is crazy! I was only talking about District and Circuit conventions!
Nobody gets a round of applause after student talks do they? Well, in certain areas they clap your talk if it is your first one after joining the school. It's as if to say "Well done for joining the Ministry School".
If you have more than one school, sometimes you will hear clapping in the second school, which is a bit of a nuisance if it comes in the middle of somebody's talk in the main hall.
I think this practice is silly, because I'm sure it's nerve-racking enough to give your first talk without having a round of applause after it to embarrass you even further.
