2 elders came to my home!!

hello to all my friends here!!

i want to tell you that i am on this site everyday!

i just don't post very often.

I'm actually having the same problem. I pretty much stopped abruptly about a year ago. Now there isn't a weekend that goes by that I don't get a visit from an elder or a pamphlet in my door. It's really irritating. One elder actually asked us if we would go out to dinner with him and his wife. I told him no. The last time he came around my house, he started to berate us in front of his wife, who is the biggest gossip. I don't think I feel like subjecting myself to such verbal spankings.

I tried the whole "I don't feel like going right now", "I'm fine and have no need for visits", ect. It didn't deter them. If anything, it solidified their assumptions that I need saving. If you figure out a way to get rid of them for good, let me know! That stuff is worth money!

Most Overblown Examples Used at Assemblies

at a recent assembly, there was a talk highlighting the dangers of higher education.

the brother used an example of a young girl who went to university, began going to bars, and ended up getting drugged and gang raped - as if this happens to every young jw who chooses to get higher education.. .

what ridiculous examples have you heard used at meetings or assemblies?.

We had one example of Brother Perfect's five sons. Brother Perfect was the one giving the talk and he used all five of his sons to give examples of how they twarted the evil presences of peer pressure in high school. One by one they gave their glorifying moments of faith and strength, beating away that roaring lion! No, they would not fall to Satan! High school must have been pretty hard for them, too, because they were laying it on thick.

Sadly, this was done at a Cir. Ass. Sadly, still, everyone knew this Brother Perfect and his five sons.

And we all knew his sons were homeschooled since middle school.

I used to ask my mother, if the flood was real, how the kangaroos got to Australia. No boats, can't swim, not found on any other continent. She couldn't answer. And now, everytime she brings up me not going to the hall, I just look at her and say, "WTF, Mom? What about the roos?" She doesn't appreciate my humor.

Agreed! And there is nothing more satisfying than showing said literature to a current follower. But then they stammer that it's old light and is no longer taught. I also love to show them inconsistencies in the Interlinear Bible published by the WTS. It's right there. Side by side. How can you argue with it? Can't. They just stammer and get pissed.

leavingwt - Apparently it's not that easy. The local news channel here interviewed one of these whack jobs and he said that if he's still here come May 22nd and he hasn't been raptured, apparently he's not good enough to make it to heaven and will have to live out his life here with no hope.

i'm doing research for an article of writing on why jw's are clinging on to the religion regarless of the pain and dysfunction.

those of you that remember me know i have written on this subject for many years.

i have not written an article on this topic for over nine years and i wanted to create a relevant post based on the current dynamics and theology.

My grandmother told me the best reason of all. I had a discussion with her about using reasoning and logic in conjunction with conviction of scriptures to navigate through life instead of just takings a man's word for it.

Her reply? "I don't want to have to think about it. I just want someone to tell me what to do. It's easier that way."

hello all.... some of you have been following our story from the beginning - and even those of you who haven't should be able to relate to my quandary.... last week my 14 year old son told me he no longer wants to be a jw.

we laboured over telling his jw dad all week.

well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

prophecor - You know what's too funny? I'm an Art History major and from what I've learned through the ages, nothing's changed. Instead of TV, the Romans had sculpture and sex slaves (which boys were required to partake at a certain age to reach manhood, usually very young). Instead of porn magazines, the Roccoco period had paintings of women that a gyno would need to study and had Klimt that drew women masterbating. The subject hasn't changed. Just the medium :)

well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

14 is too young, yes, but as I reflect back, I was only 15 when I started. I had to keep that all in mind when my stepson told us that he was sexually active. At first, my husband was really angry and hurt that he would act with impulse like he did, but after I told him to think about what he was doing when he was that young, the anger in the situation softened and we were then able to go through the steps of the next course of action. That was to make absolutely sure that he realized that if he got a girl pregnant, he would be wholey responsible for that child and that we were not going to offer financial aid to him, nor were we going to bail him out. He would pay child support from his own child support and he would get a job on the weekends to pay for pampers and daycare for the mother so she could also finish school. We bought him a box of condoms and gave him the address and phone number to the nearest Planned Parenthood in his area, where he could get condoms for free.

And, we were very thankful that he trusted us enough to tell us that he was sexually active. It means you have a very strong relationship with you child. Don't freak out. That's the worst thing you could do. They will think twice about coming to you again.

How was your Mother's Day?

mine was terrific.

loving visits, cards, dinner, and togetherness.

i know if i had remained a witness, at least one of my children would have left the borg, and we would probably not have the beautiful relationship we now have.

I have to vent. I'm a stepmother to a 17 year old. All and all, he's not a bad kid. He has the normal "woe-is-me", "you-owe-me" attitude that some teenagers take on once they hit high school. My beef is that, for the 9 years I've been with his father, I have jumped through hoops for him. I've helped him handle problems that he was too scared to tell his mother (or father for that matter). I've made sure that he has all of the available options open to him for his education, including hiring a college math professor to get him out of an F in algebra. His dad and I even spent 20k on going to and from court to get him full time because he said he couldn't handle the problems in his mom's house. At the very last minute, I mean VERY, as in 2 days before court, he tells the judge that he wants to stay with his mom to "give her another chance." Come to find out after, the child was playing both sides as fools and telling each side totally different stories.

Anyway, through all of this, I have never once gotten a phone call on Mother's Day or even a card. Instead, I looked on the prepaid visa we let him have IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES, and he's spent my money on Mother's Day gifts for his mom. I didn't even get a text back.

So for Mother's Day, I got a bill.

Yeah kids.
