We had a family in our district that were complete ass kissers. This elder had his five sons go up on stage to give individual accounts of the pressures of peers while they were in high school and what they did to twart those evil bastards. The kicker? They were all homeschooled from the fourth grade.

What percentage of assmbly experiences are total fabrication?
by NoRegrets inwhen i was in 4th grade, i ended up in a situation involving minor school politics.
they had developed a "student council" which did little more than sell pencils at lunch time for fundraisers.
anyway, i was appointed by the teacher and didn't think much of it as an 8-9 year old.

I wonder how much Romney paid to have this piece of PR published.

WOW - CNN Contributor calls JW a cult!
by Iconoclast inreligious cults are very much us-versus-them.

I've seen businesses selling items in a very similar fashion to the JW's. It suprised me. I was a born in and did not realize that the type of "witnessing" they do is actually a very old marketing technique. It's all marketing. When I realized how similar the two were, down to practacing the sales pitch before presenting, it was the beginning of the end for me. It's like I peeked behind the curtain. I was maybe 15 at that time. When I brought this up to my elder grandfather, he dismissed it saying that witnesses are natural salesmen because of the extensive training from the Ministery School and that it was only natural that a person would migrate into that type of business structure. It astonished me that he could see one way down the tunnel but not see the implications that it gave looking down the reversal. If they're really good at marketing sales, how is the ministry any different from selling memberships? You find leads, you nurture them, you make the sale. He just didn't see the relavance I was trying to make.

So that just shores up my suspicions that this article was written as more of a PR article to try to sway the public's viewpoint on having a Mormon president instead of telling what really goes on. If people are reading this article on CNN, what is stopping them from opening another window and googling Mormonism for themselves. I'm sure countless pages of personal testimony about the shunning purposes and the lack of free will are out there. This article is nothing more than propaganda bull sh*t.

Religious cults are very much us-versus-them. Their adherents are taught to think that they are the only ones who benefit from divine approval. They don’t like to engage in serious, respectful give-and-take dialogue with people with whom they disagree. Nor do they promote the kind of scholarship that works alongside others in pursuing the truth. Jehovah’s Witnesses, for instance, haven’t established a university. They don’t sponsor a law school or offer graduate-level courses in world religions. The same goes for Christian Science. If you want to call those groups cults I will not argue with you.
The article is on whether or not Mormonism is a cult and speaks about Mitt Romney. Then the author makes the above comment a few paragraphs down. Comments? What do you think? Do you think his definition of a cult is accuarte? I've always felt that Mormonism is a sister religion to Jehovah's Witnesses and I have never felt that Mormonism promotes equality of theology in conjunction with other religions. They feel that they are the saved ones, right? Just because they have a university, would that trump the idea that they are "taught to think that they are the only ones who benefit from divine approval?" Is that not the same as Jehovahs Witnesses, minus the school?

Hilarious "wardrobe worksheet" in new YPA book!
by cedars induring a quiet moment i picked the latest ypa book down from my bookshelf.
it's pretty much stayed there since my relatives came back from the latest convention.
i couldn't bring myself to see the extent to which the society is now trying to claw its way into the lives of teenagers.

I love how all of the reasons for wanting clothes are negative. Do you want to look like a whore? Do you want to be a popular whore? Do you want to be a trendy popular whore? Or do you want it because it's comfortable?

Anyone that gets a 2-door car doesn't have their priorities straight and is bad association (elders).
Yep. And if you had a sports car, you were as good as dead at the Big A.
We had a CO tell us that if we sent our kids to college, don't be suprised if they come back in "spiritual bodybags."
I was told by an elder that I dressed like a whore because I wore a spagetti strap sundress (that came down to my high shin area). The spagetti straps called too much attention to my shoulders.
Oh, and if we didn't bring our lunch to the assembly and ate out, because, you know, we're sick of being in the building for hours on end, we wished to partake of our meals with walking dead people ("worldies")
I had another CO tell my sister that her medical book (nursing school) was no better than smut and pornography.

2. There was an old dude in one congregation who, when giving the Godly View of Sex and Marriage talk, said it was a good idea not to have chocolates or spices, or worcestershire sauce, before bed. "It will irritate the body openings and you will want to comfort yourself." He said brothers should sleep with their arms and hands out of the blankets so they didn't comfort themselves.

told my parents to never ever tell me they love me again....
by oompa in...i told them in a very serious sitdown in their living room....said..."because if you cant show it then it does not count...that is not real love no matter who tells you it is....because it is how it makes me feel that determines if it is love....not if you just say it...and me and my sons do not feel that love at all now"....and i stayed calm and talked slowly and barely shed a tear as i held them back...and i had asked them to not say a word but just listen...dad said they would as long as it was not about religion as i knew he would.
this was two of the worst days of my life in a row..i told them the pain me and my boys feel from their shunning is worse than if they had died...that then i could grieve naturally and move on because that is normal....grief helps you cope...my grief is different because they choose to act like i am dead and normal grief does not seem to work on that.
i shared an epiphany with them i had about mens rules vs gods great idea of dna (but no i am not sure about a god anymore)it went kinda like this:.
