  ok, my first guest has flaked on me.

  this is a little disappointing because i was looking forward to a discussion about homosexuality and the bible that people could really sink their teeth into.. .

  other the other hand, i am relieved.

  PC - I personally love your videos. When I was digging my heels in, getting ready to bolt, I found your videos online and it did help quite a bit. It validated my concerns and kind of gave me a sense of "I'm not alone in this" even thought the WT wants to make us feel like we are. So for that, I thank you. Good luck to you! Just know that you were not fruitless in your efforts.

  Also, an interesting fact about Biblical times and homosexuality...a course I took a few years ago dealt with Romans during Jesus' time. The professor spent an entire 4hr lecture on the definition of pornia and how it related to homosexuality. To summarize, the "kept for unnatural purposes" and "men that lie with men" dealt primarily with the owner/slave relationship. If you were a slave and your owner slept with you, it was not out of love and was completely done out of dominance. Same thing with women slaves but yet the Bible doesn't make a big deal out of that, now does it. Anyway, this certain Art Historian professor (who studied only Greco-Roman btw) was very convincing in his arguement through use of illustration and artwork that the Greco-Roman's created.

  And also, the word Pornia, that stupid word that the WTBTS tries to decifer all of the time to prove their twisted points, covered a SLEW of acts now considered ok within relationships, including oral sex. Apparently, it was okay for men to recieve but disgusting if they gave. The reason? No idea. But yet, it was fine to have sex with understudies, some as young as 6 yrs old.

  I'm actually having the same problem. I pretty much stopped abruptly about a year ago. Now there isn't a weekend that goes by that I don't get a visit from an elder or a pamphlet in my door. It's really irritating. One elder actually asked us if we would go out to dinner with him and his wife. I told him no. The last time he came around my house, he started to berate us in front of his wife, who is the biggest gossip. I don't think I feel like subjecting myself to such verbal spankings.

  I tried the whole "I don't feel like going right now", "I'm fine and have no need for visits", ect. It didn't deter them. If anything, it solidified their assumptions that I need saving. If you figure out a way to get rid of them for good, let me know! That stuff is worth money!

  Most Overblown Examples Used at Assemblies

  at a recent assembly, there was a talk highlighting the dangers of higher education.

  the brother used an example of a young girl who went to university, began going to bars, and ended up getting drugged and gang raped - as if this happens to every young jw who chooses to get higher education.. .

  what ridiculous examples have you heard used at meetings or assemblies?.

  We had one example of Brother Perfect's five sons. Brother Perfect was the one giving the talk and he used all five of his sons to give examples of how they twarted the evil presences of peer pressure in high school. One by one they gave their glorifying moments of faith and strength, beating away that roaring lion! No, they would not fall to Satan! High school must have been pretty hard for them, too, because they were laying it on thick.

  Sadly, this was done at a Cir. Ass. Sadly, still, everyone knew this Brother Perfect and his five sons.

  And we all knew his sons were homeschooled since middle school.

  those ones that would be worthy of a great thread at jwn, if only they were fully cooked?.

  i have those.. sadly, i am so busy most of the time that i never get to follow my little thought experiments.

  I used to ask my mother, if the flood was real, how the kangaroos got to Australia. No boats, can't swim, not found on any other continent. She couldn't answer. And now, everytime she brings up me not going to the hall, I just look at her and say, "WTF, Mom? What about the roos?" She doesn't appreciate my humor.

  Agreed! And there is nothing more satisfying than showing said literature to a current follower. But then they stammer that it's old light and is no longer taught. I also love to show them inconsistencies in the Interlinear Bible published by the WTS. It's right there. Side by side. How can you argue with it? Can't. They just stammer and get pissed.

  leavingwt - Apparently it's not that easy. The local news channel here interviewed one of these whack jobs and he said that if he's still here come May 22nd and he hasn't been raptured, apparently he's not good enough to make it to heaven and will have to live out his life here with no hope.

  those of you that remember me know i have written on this subject for many years.

  i have not written an article on this topic for over nine years and i wanted to create a relevant post based on the current dynamics and theology.

  My grandmother told me the best reason of all. I had a discussion with her about using reasoning and logic in conjunction with conviction of scriptures to navigate through life instead of just takings a man's word for it.

  Her reply? "I don't want to have to think about it. I just want someone to tell me what to do. It's easier that way."

  Sex at 14?

  hello all.... some of you have been following our story from the beginning - and even those of you who haven't should be able to relate to my quandary.... last week my 14 year old son told me he no longer wants to be a jw.

  we laboured over telling his jw dad all week.

  well, on friday night he finally came clean.. but in a bizarre and unexpected twist, after having sex with his girlfriend for the very first time - in his father's home that very afternoon.

  prophecor - You know what's too funny? I'm an Art History major and from what I've learned through the ages, nothing's changed. Instead of TV, the Romans had sculpture and sex slaves (which boys were required to partake at a certain age to reach manhood, usually very young). Instead of porn magazines, the Roccoco period had paintings of women that a gyno would need to study and had Klimt that drew women masterbating. The subject hasn't changed. Just the medium :)
