  What would be your dream career?

  if you could have any job, career .......something you are very passionate about , what would it be?.

  i would be a photographer,,,,,,,taking picutures world wide, and hopefully be on the cover of time magazine , national geographic.. my second choice would be a makeup artist like kevin alcoin ( sp) , he could do magic and make anyone look like who he wanted them to be.

  truely an artist and too bad he passed away.

  Porn superstar actor!

  But more down to earth, I'd love to have a dual career. Half the day I'd be an electrical engineer designing circuits for and testing electronic musical instruments like keyboards or electric horns and maybe developing some new stuff. When I was in college, I read about some research done at MIT and a few other places on instruments that you don't even have to touch to play. You just move around in a particular space.

  The other half of the day, I would play jazz music hard bop 50's and 60's style and some contemporary jazz stuff in the style of groups like the Crusaders or the Yellowjackets. I'd play my saxophone and maybe some keyboard or maybe the electronic instruments that I helped design.

  every day either on the way to work or coming home i pass people with signs begging on the side of the road.

  i'm curious if anyone here gives them money....i have from time to time, i tend to give more to women then men...i suppose i identify more with them...a kind of "under different circumstances that could be me" feeling i get... .

  I never give them any money because of the reasons already stated in this thread. Some are scammers and many choose to continually make bad decisions. Sometimes I feel a little guilty if I think they are actually sincere about their need. But I just feel disgusted when they are drinking beer or it is obvious they were recently drinking or they're smoking a cigarrete. How can anyone have the nerve to ask for money while blatantly wasting money and ruining their health right in my face? I say great for those who give to a reputable charity. I haven't done much of that, but I think that money sent there will be used more responsibly.

  If You Were Never A JW What Type of Life Would You Think You'd Have Now?

  I went to college despite the fact that I was a JW, however, every decision I made about what to spend time on went through a JW filter. So if I had not been a JW, I might have developed some other interests a little more and that might have changed my skill set some. But I don't know for sure how that would have affected my life jobwise.

  I probably wouldn't have stuck with the no premarital sex rules of JW. I sometimes wonder whether I would have been mature enough to play safely. An unplanned baby or a STD can have very negative effects and will at least alter your planned path. But then I also wonder whether I would ever have gotten married had I been thinking freely. Perhaps not.

  What's a "beel"? or do they mean Beale as in Beale Street. That's what I always thought he meant.

  Are you a complete person?

  people living alone, usually have to do everything in the house, like cooking, washing, and all kinds of odd jobs here and there.

  usually men have their specialties like plumming and electricity, and women are better in cooking and sewing.

  but living alone, you have to do all of the above.

  I lived alone only for a little more than a year, but I lived in an apartment the entire time. So I think I can do a satisfactory job with cleaning, washing, cooking and other general inside the house jobs, but I've never had to do any plumbing or major outside house maintenance on my own. I helped my father do some stuff when I was at home including replacing a segment of pipe under our house that burst one particularly cold winter and adding a room onto the house. We got a professional plumber, electrician and mason for that project, but we did the foundation, the framing, the drywall and the shingling on our own for the most part. It was an interesting project, but I was just a teenager helping out and I think I'm probably more proficient at cooking and cleaning than any type of major house maintenance. But if I had to do it, I could still drive a tractor, push a lawnmower or work on the cars that don't require special computer diagnostics tools. And I can't sew. My mother taught me how to sew buttons on once, but the last time I needed buttons sewn on, I had the cleaner's sewing person do it.

  I guess his ghost floated up from Graceland along Bellvue/Elvis Presley Boulevard. I drove up and down Union Ave quite often when I lived in the area. Glad you enjoyed my old stomping ground.

  I didn't like it, but it was something I had been doing all my life. I still remember ringing doorbells and placing my first magazines at the age of 8. So it was not something I really hated either. I just did it because I thought it had to be done. I also had the experience that sometimes it turned out to be a nice social activity as well.

  Well I don't see a link for DC although I'm sure there's some dumb laws still on the books. Of note is a law requiring all bicycles operated in the city to be registered. This law is only enforced if a cyclist is causing some other trouble like participating in a protest that blocks traffic.

  Since there was no link for DC, I checked out some for the state where I gew up, Tennessee.

  Here's some for Memphis.

  Memphis

  • Illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians.
  • It's illegal for frogs to croak after 11 PM.
  • Panhandlers must first obtain a $10 permit before begging on the streets of downtown Memphis.

    • Why does this law exist?
  • It is illegal to give any pie to fellow diners. It is also illegal to take unfinished pie home. All pie must be eaten on the premises

  Here's one for Fayette County, where I actually lived about an hour east of Memphis, that isn't totally dumb.

  • You may not have more than five inoperable vehicles on a piece of property.

  I'm not sure how much this law is enforced, but some people would actually let broken down cars collect on their property in the front yard no less till their property looked like a junk yard, which might be ok if they were actually a junk yard, but if its in front of a residence, it starts to look tacky. This law doesn't seem any dumber than laws requiring people to keep their grass cut and to shovel snow from the sidewalk. Maybe its highlighting the dumbness of people who required such a law to be written.

  DO YOU FIND.......................

  that you are reading a lot more since exiting the borg?.

  i've had as many as five books on the go all at once - all of a spiritual nature.

  i'm currently reading the wheel of life and death by philip kapleau.. claire takes a book to bed with her every night (something i can't do - i just can't read in bed).. some of you might like fiction or biographies, etc., but i love to read anything on buddhism (although one of my books is by a christian cleric).

  I've read less, although I really should read more. The brain needs to stay active and keep learning. I have read Crisis of Conscience and a couple other secular books about JW. When I was a kid I loved to read sci-fi and mystery novels. I've read a few sci-fi novels as an adult and I enjoyed re-reading 1984 lately. In the future, I plan to read Animal Farm and Darwin's classic writings (can't remember the title right now). I figure that I've read creation propaganda all my life, so I might as well see what the other side has to say without the filtering done by the watchtower publications.

  How much sleep do you need?

  if y-all check the time stamp on a lot of my posts you will see i post very early and rather late in the day.

  i only need four to five hours of sleep unless i'm not feeling well or i really busted my butt working on a remodel.

  even when i am on holiday i like to get up early and do something!

  I need 5 or 6 good hours. I'd enjoy 8, but I can rarely sleep before 11 and I like to get up at least by 6.

  When I was in college and working a part-time night job, I got by on 4 hours and once a week my schedule of meetings, school and work required that I go 36 hours straight with no sleep. I usually made some of it up on the weekend, but I survived for about a year on that schedule.
