My wife thinks I threw out all of my CDs.... but I moved them to a hard drive. swing them over to my ipod every now and then so I can play them in my car.

Cool post! When I was reading the bit of the artical I couldn't help but apply them to the SOCIETY and many of the R&F. LOL (haughty, self-assuming, disloyal, not having natural affection...no open to any agreement.)
GB - "use your power of reason", unless its our information...in which case you should "blindly follow"
Amazing how the Org has taught us so well how to use Scripture to our own advantage. They should look in the mirror...and past publications.

Got Shunned By Doomsday Brigade Sitting in Front of the Grocery Store
by foolsparadise intoday i went to my local grocery store and there were three doomsday brigade jw cult members that have watched me grow up from a teenager.
i walked right up to them and said hi...not once but three times.
they looked right through me as if i was invisible.

first, it is so disconcerting to realize that the core of your existence and the foundations of your beliefs are false that it can throw you for a real loop.
as witnesses we are so confident in all of the answers we have been given, to questions that we never asked, that we mentally put ourselves up on a pedestal above the masses of poor, blind, wicked humanity.

Maybe I'll meet some DF'd ones in my area and we can Work some of our former territories with the JWs that are still in. We can work the streets right behind them passing out information in various forms to the householders to WARN them of this destructive cult. You know something is wrong when you go out in FS with only your Bible and the group is looking at you like "Where's your bag with the magazines?" I answer "Trying to start Bible Studies...so I just got my bible to share scriptures with them." Funny how they then look at you sideways as if that's strange. (Bible without WT or Awake, that's a concept huh?)

i know that when (not if) i leave the org, my wife will probably separate then divorce me (and we have 3 small children).
i only know of horror stories when it comes to that type of scenario.

Wow @itscrap, that's about right though. I've thought about the "free from accusation" stand in the case of many of the elders we know and even the Governing Body. "False Prophets" they're accused of being, but they somehow twist things (new light) and everyone accepts that! Its mind-boggling. They think its the "WORLD" that Satan has blinded, ummm...its THEM he has blinded.
Things really suck when kids are involved and its sad. Fight tooth and nail to MAKE THEM go to meetings, but if they die in the hospital for refusing blood...the society wipes their hands of it, or say "they took a stand for Jehovah". DUMMIES! I read the abstain from blood in the context its given! I don't eat blood sausages or foods/drinks of some foreign contries that use blood (knowingly). But if a main artery is slit and me or my kids are bleeding out...I have a decision to make. SAVE A LIFE! and I don't have a Medical Card (no blood card) for myself at all. (my wife probably has one for her and the kids.) You know now you have to ASK the elders for one. So the Society can always say "we don't force that on our members, its a personal decision." They are snakes.

Awesome suggestions. I'm very familiar with Hassan. I'll get some of his material from the library. And maybe leave it out. She'll probably flip thru it. I'm on page 100 in CoC. This book is wild! Too bad its one my wife would never even THINK about reading. She saw a commercial for a movie that's out (RATED-R) and she always laughs at the clips. She said "Man! Why does it have to be rated-R???!!! I want to see that?" In my mind I'm like ""You're 20-something years old, what's stopping you?? Ohhh...that's right, the SOCIETY says you can't watch rated-R movies"

Sorry to offend you Faundy. That was not my intent. SEX is not my goal. (note I said ...maybe even sex) I mentioned it after companionship because when members of the opposite sex get along well that can become a bridge that is crossed.
I feel sympathy for my wife too. She is a hardcore JW. Some of her comments at meetings put to shame those of many of our elders. I told her that if she were a guy...she would no doubt be an elder right now.
Thank you Faundy for thinking that marriages can still last once a person leaves the Witnesses. Maybe things are different there in the UK. Here, in the USA...where I'm from (my area or Circuit...) when persons leave there's usually separation. See, here...elders will question your spouse as to what YOU think or feel about the organization. If they feel it is necessary, they will say that separation is exceptable if they feel the person is in "spirital danger". My wife, being the good rank and file member she is would most likey object to anything you or anyone else here has to say. She considers "apostates" children of SATAN. She considers them the "EVIL SLAVE" talked about in Matthew 24.
I tried to be subtle at first to feel her out. I showed her some of the JW/Pedophile videos from Youtube (NBC and BBC's newsclips) and the SilentLambs website. This is what she did...TRUE STORY; 1. She copied the links and emailed them to an Elder in our cong. and my dad who is a Congregation Overseer. 2. after that was done, we visited my parents and lead the conversation so that my father could ask me about the sites.
She saw the links and the Silent Lambs site. (note...my dad is a Congregation Overseer/used to be called Presiding Overseer) This is what her thinking is - "The organization is NOT full of perfect people and we all make mistakes. Some people view the society's protection as overbearing but they are looking out for our best interest. Even if a brother was a pedophile, that's not for everyone to know. That is between the elders and that person. They would counsel that brother in private if they felt they were getting too close to a child in the congregation. If a brother confessed to the elders they don't have to give that privileged information to the authorities because of clergy privileges. If they did then no one would go to the brothers to get right with Jehovah after they've sinned." This is coming from a mother of 3 mind you.
In the END...she and my father felt "You can't believe all of these things on the internet, that's why the Governing Body is constantly telling us to watch what we view and who we listen to because they're just people who feel they were wronged and they want to bring everone down with them. The organization is what Jehovah is using to get spread his word. The real question is DO YOU FEEL that JEHOVAH is using THIS organization? Or do you think his spirit is no longer with it?" between the two of them, THIS is what I was faced with. I only answered with "I don't mean to get you emotional, but I do as the Society said...research and keep proving my faith to myself."
I'm glad you think my marriage will still be in tact once I leave. I'd hate to have my sister (A non-JW Lawyer) represent me in court at a divorce/child-custody hearing.

Will I ever get married again? I doubt it. Yet, as a living, breathing MAN...I know I will want companionship. (and yeah, maybe even sex) LOL
