I love these posts that are revived so that those of us who are newbies can contribute. This happened to my mom, back in the 60's. It was winter here in Ohio and she was wearing a pair of boots that were low, maybe 4 inches above the ankle. When the person opened the door a small dog ran out and proceeded to give my mom a good sniffing. As she went in to her presentation, she felt a warm trickle into her boot. She went on talking finishing her presentation. She got back to the car with a weird look on her face and said, "That damn dog peed in my boot!" Now, you had to know my mom, she would no more swear than June Cleaver. She told that story till the day she died and we always got a good laugh. She was so proud she kept her cool. Miss you Mom.

Nightmares when active JW
by MissConfused ini remember when i was active, i would constantly get nightmares regarding armageddon.. used to wake up so many times at night watch my window, pray hard and try to go to sleep.
now i wonder that this organization was really succcessful in making people scared to death about 'current system of things', but why would anyone do that?
why would anyone want to bring division in families, make hate speeches, scare people to death, etc?

Me too, SPLASH, I was afraid of thunderstorms, probably thanks to that horrible pinkish orange Paradise Lost book. Great reading and pictures for kids.

For the Lurkers: You are not alone.
by okage inin the seats of kingdom halls, you wait patiently for the meetings to end so you can escape the lie you've forced yourself to live.
at the conventions you smile at people you grew up with knowing that if they knew how you truly felt, they would leave you with nothing but memories.. you have questions.
you may even have answers.

Beautifully written okage, and great that you posted all the useful sites for questions and info. I walked away many years ago, a slow fade, and until recently most all my family included me in family things. I have a neice and several cousins that I have a very strong inkling that they are feeling exactly as you described, but are fearful that after a life long association with this religion, they cannot leave for fear of losing relationships with parents and siblings. Hopefully what you have written will help someone on the path to freedom. You know, of all the stories we read about here, even tho so many are experiencing hardships and shunning because of their decision to leave, how many have stated they made a wrong choice and are going back? A handful, maybe?

7/15 WT- Insane, Far Fetched, Narcissistic "New Light " about the FDS
by flipper ini know this article has been discussed, re-hashed upside down in past threads.
but there were at least 2 points i discovered in here that i felt were pertinent and important to bring out concerning the total control and narcissistic tendencies that these wt leaders possess on the governing body, i.e.
alleged " faithful slave " .

ctrwtf: ROFL! Where do we of the Sisterhood of PMS go to sign up for that?
OnTheWayOut: My thoughts exactly as I read this, one of their "proofs" they are not a cult is that they follow no person or group of persons...well that is out the window. How do they get around that argument now? And I agree with punkofnice, they have to know it is a scam, there is no excuse for ignorance in this day and age. The tactics they use show they know what they are doing as they turn on the propaganda machine. That's why it is so frustrating for those of us with family still in: otherwise intelligent people, all who own a computer, to not allow themselves to do any research into the very thing that controls every facet of their lives.

Contrary to what their website says, they are shunning family members who no longer associate. Never been disfellowshipped, never formally disassociated, just a slow fade almost 30 years, and now I am being shunned and left out of major family events. Has to be because of all this crap they are being fed. Listening to this clip made me ill, the hate spewed forth in such a whiney voice! I won't say it is not hurtful, but just have to shake my head and feel sorry for them. Fortunately, unlike so many others posting here, I am at a stage in my life where I really do not care anymore. When I walked away my life turned around and I have never looked back. I have a life of freedom and family and friends, am entering my retirement years, and life is too short to deal with their issues.

Will Newbies Be Able to Add More Profile Info?
by SafeAtHome insimon, you may have addressed this already, but when you have all the kinks worked out, will we be able to add biographical data, such as our location etc.
to our profile?
i notice the older posters have that but it was not an option when i signed up.

I notice the older posters have that but it was not an option when I signed up. Sometimes it helps to know where someone is when reading their posts. Of course, it is never difficult to tell if someone refers to their "mum" instead of their mom! Thanks

When "The Persecution" Comes - What a Let Down that turned out to be!
by cofty inwhen i was young there was endless speculation about "the persecution".
i have very clear memories as a child sitting in the old kingdom hall in coatbridge hearing it talked about from the platform.
it was a frequent topic at home.. sometimes there was lurid detail about what sort of torture "they" might use against us to make us betray others.

Goodness, I have been out for almost 30 years and I still remember the demo with the reversible jacket and false beard. And the admonition to never, ever miss the Tuesday night book study because that's where we would most likely receive life saving instructions. Didn't i find out from here that the book study is no more? Where do we go for the reversible jackets now? LOL

Thank You Perversion of a truth! Worked hard on that. Isn't it something how most themes revolve around being happy and free, just the opposite of what the WT says you will be if you leave.

Who really is to blame for the marriage breakdowns?
by Quarterback inanother young couple has bit the dust, in our congregation.
that's close to 20.. we'll probably hear a special needs talk, and of course the couple will be counselled to get back together, and they are not scripturally free to marry.. comments will be made that it's is the fault of the younger ones, today.
apparently younger ones are selfish, but, are they?.

MY first mariage broke up because we were way too young, I was 21, he was 19. And we got baptized so we could get married in the Kingom Hall. What alternative did we have back then? We should have both been in college planning for a real future, but of course in 1972 we wanted to be able to experience a few years of being an adult before 1975. That marriage lasted 12 years before he decided he was too young to get married and wanted to experience freedom. He has recently remarried his 3rd exwife while my 2nd marriage is going on 28 years. Not sure if he has found his freedom, but I sure found mine. With the divorce came a ticket out of the Borg. Really, Witness kids get married way too young. I think more than half of the young couples who were married around the same time are no longer together.

Really? Only 12 or less? Here goes:
Normal kid, had it all
Birthdays, Christmas, what a ball.
Ten years old, all that changed
Mom & dad became deranged.
Sucked into borg, my oh my
Hook, line, sinker - bought the lie.
At 34, first hubby left
Oh so sad, felt bereft.
But found my wings, brain cells awoke,
To me Watchtower no longer spoke.
Never looking back, love the new me
Sum it all up with I'm Free! I'm Free!
