Elders in our hall feel differently and don't discourage it anymore, but it's pretty techy in my town and many people have degrees. I guess it depends on the opinion of the body whether they say something or not.

What is the basis for advising “Don’t pursue higher studies”?
by venus intwo elders who visited my friend last week encouraged her not to pursue higher studies.
it seems they are dishing out the same old stuff: “the end is imminent, and this is the time to do more in the service; hence don’t waste your resources on higher studies.”.
i wonder whether there was some official communiqué (something that is sent out recently like letter to the elders, or kingdom ministry article …).

Which elder letter talking about Warwick...
by ThinkerBelle inmy spouse and i were talking about something that was written last year (thinking about spring time maybe) that was in a letter read to the elders only talking about warwick and it mentioned - or hinted at maybe - that the righteous resurrected of old would have rooms made there (ya know, like carrying on the whole beth sarim idea again).
at first i thought this info was in a watchtower, but couldn't find it and that's when honey thought it was in a letter instead and might not have been public info.
does this ring a bell for anyone?

LOL, I figured this board would be all over something like that. I think it may have just been something local considering the source - maybe from the elder's school. I wouldn't be surprised though considering the history.

We talked about it when it happened (still have family in that had mentioned it) but can't for the life of me remember the reference point to it.
Thanks if you know what I'm rambling about. :)

JW and the Sabbath
by Andromeda inhello brothers and sisters and truth seekers,.
i am an active jehovah's witness.
i don't believe in 1914 and i'm tototally against their way of dealing with abuse cases.

If you have doubts do your own reasearch. I won't bend to the reasoning of godless people.
Then why do you care about what they have to say about the sabbath??

JW's Funerals, Forget About The Person! Let's Preach.
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the dead person at his funeral.
so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.
a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

Ha, try the elder giving the funeral talk for a dear loved one of mine (and within the cong at the time), picked because he was a head honcho in the cong of family member that arranged everything and did not know said relative at all, using the wrong name for said loved one the whole talk. Yeah, that was a slap in the face! -

Where does the money come from to operate the Hospital Information network?
by OrphanCrow inthe recent buzz that has hit the online communities concerning the watchtower society and their evil offspring - the jw org - revolves around their apparent financial difficulties.
many factors have been discussed - the real estate flips (and flops), the changes in meetings and field service, the need for donations to cover expenses, the push for donations.
where does the money come from to operate the hospital information network?

Doc, HIPPA laws would prevent her from saying anything.....I would hope. She would get in big trouble career wise for sharing that and you filing a claim. -

Living as Christians at the C.L.A.M this week
by Truthexplorer inthis weeks meeting under the section - living as 'christians', starts off with 'repentance makes a difference', which is a talk given by an elder taken from w06 11/15 27-28 par 7-9. in a nut shell it discusses those who have been disfellowshipped and then show repentance.
it then goes on to discuss reinstatement and how a certain amount of time must pass by before this can take place.
it makes the following point in the paragraph.. 'a disfellowshipped person is not automatically accepted back into the congregation after a certain amount of time has passed.

I poured my heart out at my JC and the edlers didn't seem to pay much attention......I'm pretty sure they had their mind made up before I even walked in to that meeting. I was told that I wasn't repentant.......how do 3 imperfect men determine that??? These elders were the kind that lead thwir hall with iron fists and they wanted no incidents........but after me, there was a string of people that got trouble.
I was young at the time and immediately did what I had to to get back in, but my reinstatement took a long time because the elders in my new hall didn't (or wouldn't) take the time to contact the other hall even though they said they were going to reinstate me, but needed to talk to the othwr elders firat. Took about 6 weeks before they finally did it.
Such a screwed up process!!

Can somebody explain the songs and songbook obsession?
by careful ini've been out a while and have only put in a rare appearance at a memorial or brief visit at a convention/assembly to keep people off my back, so i haven't kept up on the songbook.
but one thing i've noticed that the org.
has been doing that they never did when i was in is all these "supplemental songs" that keep appearing.

What's worse is the child reditions of the songs encouraging the kids to get brainwashed too......ugh, I can't stand "Listen, obey and be blessed." -

A question .....
by Landy inhi guys - new poster here.
i was brought up a jw in the uk and stopped going not long after i was married.
that was 20 years ago so i'm not really up to date with the current doctrinal flip flops or the new youtube obsessed gb.. came across this site while googling the name of a local elder who's just been convicted of possesion of a pc full of unpleasant pics of kids.. so, my question.

Because it's not that easy for most and I even have a husband that is not in and agrees with what I've discovered (he used to be part of it, but left for other reasons, never baptised). I work with parents and I rely heavily on my mom to help with the care of children while I work. My inlaws are less than reliable and a bit crazy.....okay, maybe a lot and not responsible. I can't just up and leave yet because I rely on that help and I do have a few meaningful relationships with others that have kids as well, but it doesn't take hard work either to pretend to be one.........attend meetings to catch up on my reading - the electronic age has helped greatly with this (I do skip some sporadically every month...especially midweek), fabricate a service report; I go out for an hour maybe 1 saturday a month for show, but feign conducting study with kids for rest of my hours......and I really do talk to them about Bible things, just may not be the accepted JW theories.
