Sorry to hear you got shunned instead of welcomed by your brother and his wife. I know what it's like because I have a similar situation.

I have a few that are my favorites that are overlooked.
"Last Temptation of Christ" blew me away. I love that film, but I know very few people, with the exception of some on this board, that have seen it.
"Sorcerer." Four desperate men on the run drive two trucks full of unstable nitro/dynamite through a South American jungle hell. Directed by William Freidkin who did "The French Connection" and "The Exorcist." I can't figure out why the film is named "Sorcerer."

Actually, if I grasp your point, we still would call it evil in my opinion. As an example, whether the Nazis gave painless injections to the Jews to exterminate them, as opposed to methods they did use, we would still call it genocide, wouldn't we? Wouldn't we condemn murder, painless or not, as evil?

Your point is a good one. If there is no God, then standards of what is good, what is evil, are purely personal perceptions.
I had this same discussion with a college professor last year who is an athiest. He said there was no god, therefore no standard of good and evil existed except in human opinion. My response was, so the fact some people say the Nazis were evil is just their opinion?
He looked troubled for a moment, but then said, "That's exactly what I'm saying."
I struggle with this concept that good and evil is simply personal perception or popular opinion. I don't need a Bible or Koran or any other book to tell me what is good and what is evil, but it seems these standards for either are universally easy to distinguish.

As a fellow gourmet, let me join you in wishing you a hardy congratulations. LOL!!!! Stick with Uncle Ben's. It's the best for single dudes on the go. If you have time and want the best tasting, use basmatti rice.

my younger brother was an alcoholic. It destroyed his life. He was drinking so heavily to cope with his low self-esteem he ended up doing some things that landed him in prison for the rest of his natural life. He tried to beat it many times, dried out, but would fall back into his old habits. Over time all that booze affected his thinking and led to a life of crime. He could take a bottle of straight liquor and drink half it down in one long gulp.
About four months ago I met an attorney who beat his alcoholism. He's in his early sixties now and has been dry for over 30 years. He still attends AA after three decades and enjoys helping others who are battling this terrible addiction. I have to say he was one of the most upbeat, postive people I've met in a long time. He says he enjoys AA, the people in it, and it has kept him straight year after year.
