JW's and higher standards
by besty inin a recent conversation i had with a nominal jw they were literally lost for words when i put it to them that i had higher standards now that i was no longer a jw.... 1 - i don't agree with letting babies and children die for want of a banned blood fraction.
2 - i don't agree with taking from but not donating to the blood supply.
3 - i don't agree with religious discrimination aka jw shunning.

Those here who disassociated- do you regret it?
by JimmyPage indoes anyone here who disassociated regret it?
do you wish you had just faded instead?
did disassociating give you a liberating feeling of power over your life?
-
MegaDude
Yes, I regret it. Not for myself. I was sure about cutting my ties to this sick religious group a long time prior. But the negative effect it had on my close relationships with family and a spouse that were JWs was severe and in retrospect I wish I had just faded slowly away. Access to people gives you a sphere of influence. Once you have the scarlet letter so to speak, you are less effective and efficient in helping your loved ones out of the Watchtower because they *officially* cannot talk to you. But like IP SEC said, the ones who love you and really care about you will eventually come back into your life. And they have.

ever ask a JW friend or relative to stop shunning you?

I start talking about Jesus in front of them. They scurry like cockroaches when the kitchen light is turned on at 3 A.M.
So true. The foundation of the JW mindset is simply *fear.* They can call it truth till the cows come home but their facade crumbles like an old cookie when you can back up your arguments, especially with their literature and their Bible.
If I have to "ask" them to be decent human beings, I don't want them!
I can relate to that. But what if once a year they call you, and you can tell they're still missing you and you were close to that person at one time? Sure, it's a shitty way to be treated and the anguish it causes can be intense, but do you always do the reverse shun?

Lovesdubs, that story is so *7^%'d up nobody out in the "normal" world would believe it except the ex-JWs here who routinely experience this weird religious/social dynamic.
Amha, I wish I had not DA'd for the same reasons you are avoiding it, but when you have a JW living in the house with you it's hard to stay undercover.
Ninja, I hope you are a stand-up comic because you really have the gift.
Finally Free, the JWs really have a problem with mooching, like they're entitled or something.

The ol' reverse shun. I have done that. There were a couple of people I just refused to give up on, though. It was like I just couldn't let them go. Damn painful at times but worth it in the end.
