She's trying to make her a publisher...
by MsGrowingGirl20 insoooo, i've been sudying the bible with a 10 year old girl for two years now...her mother recently got baptised.
since i've been having doubts about the org i've centered our discussions on god and the bible and less on pleasing the org...i was doing fine.... until i invited an older pioneer sister to accompany me on the study....heeeeeeesh...she changed the topic from having manners to becoming an unbaptised publisher....she went onnnnn and onnnnn about "don't you want to please jehovah and jesus, wouldn't you like to put in a form every month and you do love jehovah and want to tell others about him, right?
" i was so upset.. i treat and love this girl as if she was my little sister and i do not want her to nose dive into this religion...she's a child for god's sake!.

No, Amelia, I know about pareidolia and even about wishful thinking.
The image is obvious, and in the WT there are from time to time similarly obvious images. Not imagined.
Nothing in the least bit like the lenticular clouds. Images deliberately placed there.
As to why, that's another matter, but they are most definitely there.

Well, do you know, I'm going to dare to go against the tide here.
I do agree that there is an image in the flame.
I've noticed time and again that the majority of forum members tend to dismiss and decry the identification of subliminal images in WT illustrations, but I see them over and over.
For myself, I tend not to comment on them. That's largely because I've observed not only that the majority don't respond well, and there's a good bit of mockery, to which everyone is entitled if that's their choice, but also because I can tell that not everyone sees these "hidden" images easily.
I do. Thinking about it, I suspect it's because I was trained from a very young age to spot such things. Both my parents were teachers. They stretched our minds in perhaps unusual directions, and I, particularly, enjoyed it. I'd be given puzzles to solve, sometimes stories with puzzles in them (usually with illustrations because I'm talking about from perhaps the age of 5 or 6 up) and also coded within the story or the text. Great training for doing cryptic crosswords! Sometimes my parents would make the puzzles up themselves, sometimes it would be in magazines. Anyway, I am used to seeing images hidden within images.
Yes, here, there's a small demon face in the flame. It's similar to a face I've seen so often in clouds or clothing in the WT I usually just see it and move on. Particularly when I was fully committing myself to the WT, I tended to think it was someone trying it on in the publications department. But it is not infrequent.
I've no idea what it means. But, I keep an open mind. And of course, possible explanations are not hard to think of. I don't start a thread about it on here because I don't like setting myself up to be an Aunt Sally, but a spade is a spade, and a hidden image is a hidden image. They do exist.
If you don't see them, then you don't see them, just as not everyone could see those holographic picture changes so in vogue a few years ago.
But they are definitely there. What to make if it is another question.

Is everyone entitled to their opinion?
by Dogpatch ini thought this was a very good quote from seth godin's daily blog: .

is everyone entitled to their opinion?perhaps, but that doesn't mean we need to pay the slightest bit of attention.. there are two things that disqualify someone from being listened to:.

I'll be honest, compared to some boards, this is a tough one.
Yet this board is one of the warmest and most supportive forums on the net. In my experience.
Great fun and very serious too.
A good place.

Hypocritical statement in the July 15th Watchtower denouncing those who "forsake" family members on religious grounds
by cedars ini've had a quick glance through the july 15th watchtower, and at first reading there seems nothing too dramatic to report.. the title of the first article "let jehovah guide you to true freedom" seemed ironic to say the least.
not surprisingly, the way you get more freedom is by relinquishing it entirely to the watch tower society.
there is also a bizarre statement in the very first paragraph of the article on page 7 (bold highlighted remarks are mine):.

Surely, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Equally, everyone is responsible for how they express it, and even for whether they express it or not.
Points to consider should start with:
- is my opinion going to hurt anyone else?
- if it is, should I express it?
- if my opinion is likely to be controversial, is it actually worth expressing?
- if I decide that my opinion might hurt someone, or is likely to be controversial, but is still worth expressing, can I express it reasonably and tactfully?
- if I can't, then I should shut up.

Trying to pressure anyone into doing anything is not only very wrong but also totally counter-productive and extremely unintelligent.
Any good parent knows that if you try to apply pressure, i.e. guilt-trip a child (or anyone) into doing something you think is desirable you've already lost. Sooner or later, and in most cases sooner, or very probably right away, they'll dig in their heels and rebel.
In my case, it was exactly that behaviour that woke me up. Until that point I was willingly walking into the straitjacket of the WT with my eyes wide shut. Applying pressure and attempting to guilt-trip me into doing any more than the huge amount I already was achieved exactly the opposite effect from what they wanted.
That pioneer was being really stupid, MsGrowingGirl. I've met others like her. Poor child. Thank goodness it is you she is studying with, and well done for sticking to your guns.
Edit: I've just read what LostGeneration wrote. I wholeheartedly agree.

So was this Paul Kelly disfellowshipped for bringing JW's into disrepute?

I've seen the effects on a family locally in a recent disfellowshipping here.
I've observed how the local JW community shun the man, how the family has fractured, and how the JW sisters, especially and notably the one conducting my own study, reinforced the diktat to shun, causing other collateral damage along the way.
I've no idea how I am officially seen at the minute, but this last fortnight all the phone calls and text messages and visits have stopped, though no-one seems to be actively shunning me on chance encounter though there haven't been that many.
Rory, your few words here make your honesty and courage in refusing to quell your own thoughts and misgivings about the nonsenses within WT teaching all the more impressive.
