  Common JW phrases that aren't in the Bible

  i'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).

  especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.

  e.g.. "paradise earth".

  Jehovah's righteous standards. It's another of my most hated phrases. It means "things the Watchtower teaches," and Jehovah must surely love these teachings, because his standards are righteous.

  In fact, you can add just the simple word "righteous", because in the WT it certainly doesn't mean "good".

  Here's another. "Doing things Jehovah's waY" "Following Jehovah's demands" as in "living by Jehovah's righteous standards" = doing things the Watchtower way" or even "doing what this particular set of lovcal elders tell you to do".

  Do things Jehovah's way and you'll have peace of mind = do what we think you should and you'll be a happy fellow, with all your brain cells aligned with the programming.

  This is all written with feeling, as I've had a dose of Jehovah's righteous demands this evening.

  Oh, yuk to all of it, and all of those hypocrites.

  Has anyone here ever heard the terms "spiritual sacrifice" or "spiritual indigestion" and if so what do these mean?

  when i was in beffel, i was asked to stock check their collection of magazines, going back to their first uk prints.

  they wanted room and so asked me to throw out all but 2 copies of every magazine.

  the irony was, this was the loft space, it was huge and empty and they didnt need the room.

  What's the difference?

  can anyone explain to me the difference between the wt's doctrine of "new light!

  and the catholic church's idea of continuous revelation of the holy spirit?.

  leaving aside for the moment any questions of the spirit as god's active force, or the holy spirit as third person of the trinity, i mean.

  Can anyone explain to me the difference between the WT's doctrine of "new light! and the Catholic Church's idea of continuous revelation of the Holy Spirit?

  Leaving aside for the moment any questions of the spirit as God's active force, or the Holy Spirit as third person of the Trinity, I mean. I'm interested to know if there is really any difference in the two understandings of continuing divine input in the realm of teachings/doctrine.

  I believe I understand both concepts and for the life of me I really can't see any difference, in essence. Not in the particular revelations, obviously. Just the concept that God in some way sends continual updates to the message he wants to give us.

  Or, another interpretation, that both religious groups have developed a cunning plan to keep the faithful ever on their toes and eager for more, so that ultimately they'll accept anything.

  Oops, cynical old me.

  so my sister sent me and my brother 4 shirts i get 1st pick ... i can never pick last time he got first pick i got the ones i didn't want .. but i like them anyway so ..i saw some of you posted on obves, you got nothing to do..lol thanks in advance.

  They don't think you can truly be happy "outside"

  i was on the phone with my mom last night (she's an uber-dub with a don't ask, don't tell type policy where we basically just don't discuss the fact that i celebrate holidays and go to church regularly etc.

  ) and she said she was talking to one of my old friends from the hall there.

  the friend asked my mom how i've been and my mom said she made a face and kind of went "ehhh..." and talked about my lack of meeting attendance (she doesn't know it's way more than that) and my friend shook her head and said, "aw, that's too bad, but i've been in ruts like that before" as though i'm just depressed and don't feel like going lately.

  I Was Offered A Bible Study By The Elders

  2 elders, the cobe and his sidekick, a former bethelite and a young ms (elder in waiting) stopped by my mom's home while i was visiting with her.

  they were very congenial and eventually asked me if i got invited to the memorial and whether they could arrange a future visit with me and a possible study.

  i thanked them and told them i appreciated their invitation but that i was going to "pass at this time" but thanked them for their concern.. they recited a "wonderful experience" about a young man that was raised in the "truth" but wanted out so he decided to go to asia where he could not be found by witnesses.

  Most of us here have left JWs and are very, very happy now. So you should probably just ignore JWs and keep "studying" with us, minimus.

  Mmm, yes, studying here is very enjoyable, Billy. Even the pictures are much more fun, especially Outlaw's!

  This when said by elders:

  "We want to encourage you" in the sense of

  "we want to show you scripturally just where you're going wrong and tell you what to do to please Jehovah."

  Similarly "spiritually weak" doesn't mean spiritually weak as anyone might think. It means "spiritually weak" as in "you're not doing what we tell you".

  Likewise "spiritually strong" "spiritually mature" "spiritual babes"

  In fact "spiritual" in a JW sense doesn't necessarily mean doing anything spiritual or having a spiritual outlook. It might mean giving out magazines, or "going to meetings" or even, and here is another one...

  "answering up"

  "answering up" means putting your hand up and giving answers a five-year old could work out from what's just been read straight from a WT article. It might even mean "Look at me, I've actually been researching in the Insight book and this is really truly what I found, aren't I clever/good/diligent/spiritual (see above)"

  "doing really well" as in "learning how to toe the Watchtower line"

  "missing you" means "why weren't you at the meeting/at the ministry group, your absence was noted"

  "studying" does NOT mean any kind of academic study, nor anyth8ing that stretches the mind. It means "learning how to switch off the brain and shut up with those awkward questions. And how to toe the line (see above)

  And a lot more where that came from.

  But then, I'm learning how to be a really evil apostate.
