JW Superstitions

my folks joined the cult in 1968 if memory serves.

i was about 5 or six when they began studying so i have heard many of the weird suppositions made and superstitions fostered by jw's.

i read a post from a new member a moment ago and was intigued by something they said.

i was wondering if any elders on board or anyone for that matter has ever heard anyone within the organisation tell someone they are too far gone and could never change their lives and be re-instated?.

i asked my brother who is an elder and he told me he has never heard it and he does not think it is possible for someone to have gone to far to be "rescued".

What would WTS do if a KH with a loan didnt pay them back ?

what if the brothers and sisters at a cong ran into bad luck and couldnt afford to pay for a while.

what happens ?.

yes i know about the menlo park thing in california, but this is a slightly different case..

What i can guarantee is that they would make sure in addition to wat could be paid they did not lose their monthly donation!

If I disassociate myself from the org.,can I obtain all of my information that they have on me ? Legally ?

i am just wondering what is the legality of obtaining your own personall information once you have disassociated yourself from this organization.

Under the data protection act 1997 they are obliged once requested to release any and all information pertaining to you. Under this law you have the right to refute any information that you deem incorrect and or innacurate.

If your country has this act in force you would need to check the rules for your country as they do vary.

If they refuse, as they have in the past, then you can force them through the ombusman to get your files.

They are crafty though, fail to tell them exact congregations and they will omit looking for you and you could find them saying they have no files on you.

I believe at this time, only in Russia can you demand that they destroy information held on you althought this may have changed. The cosiety are aware that they are only allowed to hold information on you for a "certain period of time' which has no legal definition so they state they can retain all files. Again it varies from country to country.

Kingdom Hall remodel - scam

i was wondering from any here in the know, does it seem like there is a lot of "remodels" going on?.

in the last week i had the occasion to talk with two jw's in different halls, about 10 miles apart.

they both are undergoing major remodels.

I can remember back in early nineties a sister inherited several hundred thousand pounds.

The cong i was in needed a new hall and she told them she would give them the money to pay it outright, everyone knew about it.

They told her it would be in the region of 150,000.00 for the hall which to her seemed very high so she questioned why it was so expensive for such a small kingdom hall when another congregation spent the same for a hall three times the size of the one they planned.

They would give no answer.

When she said that she neede an explanation they said they had found alternate funding with a local bank at very low interest, set at 1pc.

The society refused to allow them to get the loan and insisted they get the money from the society fund at 3pc.

Then we all discovered that extra materials from the quick build just done were being used on our hall which meant it had already been paid for and was being chrged for again.

Further upsetting the RBC was an elder who became aware that the materials for the hall came to a grand total of 73000.00 so where the 150,000.00 came from it beyond anyone!

It is all a fraud and all they do is hand it all to the society!

When Someone You Love Is Removed As An Elder!

last week we lost a wonderful elder (removed, stepped down is what i will believe) , this man was as real, as you can get.

he loved the sheep,.

his eternal optimism of humanity is a rare quality in the jw religion.

I remember a brother when i was a teen who was asked to step down.

A new COBE came in and he said he basically did not fit the mold. Interestingly those brothers who kissed the COBE bum were all elevated to Elder.

Anyhoo, it devastated this poor brother who as far as I can see was removed because of the way he dressed and his income leve. He was a poor man who had literally nothing. He too loved the congregation and always let people know what they mean to him.

I have never understood why anyone would want to be an Elder as it is all about control, the antithesis of what Jesus taught and fear that they will be removed if they are not "in line" on everything.

The brother they elevated to elder was the most un-inspiring, verbally and mentally abusive man I ever had the misfortune of meeting. I remember once he ripped the microphone from my hand because I dared to pick it up and take it to a sister when another brother went to the restroom who was supposed to be carrying the mic.

I never trusted elders and never will.

Ok first hand recent re-instatement of a brother disfellowshipped for brazen conduct. was out for 15 years was attending meetings for two months applied for re-instatement. got it.

Elders told him that there is no set policy period for the length of time a person is made to wait....it depends on the person and when they ask to be reinstated. Meeting attendance is the number on thing, how that shows repentance i do not know!

Also rules have changed as to what they can ask you at a hearing apparently. they are not permitted to go into anything not related to the "case" and are not permitted to dig into any details at all, but concentrate on how the person has changed.

this brother now in his 30's had a 30 minute hearing was not told the answer and it was announced the following thursday meeting.

bob1999 i remember many many years ago that we were told we did not represent the WTBS or any of its subs.

so they must be reiterting this to ensure that if publishers say or do anything they can't hold the society responsible for it.

which begs the baptism question, why are we in 'association' with the organization which in itself means we meet the criteria to be seen as members representing the organization and qualified to do so.
