Hi again, I'm on the way to asking my questions, but I thought I'd put another one out to you folks....
Why would the JW's try to lead one astray from what the "real truth" is? They don't ask for money, political office, or anything like that. For the most part (of course there are always bad eggs in every carton)they seem to be good people. I'm just wondering what their motivation is.

I just needed some time to think and cool down a bit before I posted another reply. Tonight I plan on asking the ones I've been studying with some serious questions. I'll let you know what their reply and my response was. You have all given me much to think about. I know that the bottom line is that it is my decision, and luckily so far, I haven't been asked to be babtized yet. I'm not sure what I would say. It seems that there is equal info on either side of the fence. I need to think some more, and check out some more posts. I've checked out other churches/religions in my area, and no one seems to teach the Bible except the JW's. So I dunno. I'll ask the ???'s and I'll let you know what happens. Thank you so much for all of your help. I'll keep looking and checking posts.

Xander- As the subject of my post indicated, I've been studying for a year. I haven't tried to hide that fact. My profile indicates, I have been a member for quite awhile, and have had a few posts previously. I don't appreciate that you think I may be beyond "help". I would think that this discussion would welcome questions from a newbie. No offense intended towards you, but I have not heard much about disassociation from the women I've been studying with. Most of what I've heard has been here. When I read your reply I felt disassociated by YOU, from this board.

YouKnow- what is your response to Jeromes list of "what they tell you" and what they don't? I'm also confused because you seem to defend the JW's, but you also seem to not support their beliefs. Are you currently baptized, etc? Bottom line, where do you stand on the issues?
Am I suppossed to have two different Bible translations handy at all times to double check the JW's vs. everyone else? How do we know which translation is really correct? Is the Diaglott reliable?

I've been studying with the JW's for about a year now. I know that by nature (or nurture!) I have an addictive personality so I have tried to be real careful that I'm doing the right thing by getting involved with them. So far, so much has made sense to me, in the studies. They have never asked for money and haven't guilted me for not attending all the meetings. I do think that it's a little wierd that the congregation is mostly people that are at least 30 years older than me! I guess I'm just wondering why so many people have had bad experiences, or why so many think that the JW's are wrong, and are controlling. I haven't seen any of this and I'm searching for opinions.......

How does one know which translation is "correct"? Some of the different versions, really seem to say different things (like in the whole resurrection thing..was Jesus raised bodily or spiritually).

What I don't understand is how the word "cross" got translated into the Bible if it's not right. Aren't we supposed to believe the Bible?
Does it really matter if Christ was crucified on a cross or a stake?
Also, what is a new Witness to do if his/her family doesn't support the same beliefs, and still wants to participate in Christmas festivities? My husband says that he believes in Jesus, and doesn't associate Christmas with his birth. He associates it with a time of year to celebrate life and family, and he doesn't see it as disrespectful of God or anti God.
I know that only 2 birthdays are mentioned in the Bible, and they were both for people who were not good people. How does this mean that birthdays aren't to be celebrated at all?
