Can you give ONE example of a scientific theory with no evidence, as you claimed existed please?

Or is this one of the things you now disagree with yourself,,because it is quite a big mistake to make. If I had thought this, I too would question science. Bit of course however you came to this conclusion, it isn't the case.

As ridiculous as such a thread is, JW lurkers and young JW's will be reading it, our replies and explinations need to keep that in mind.

I Need Help Getting My Head Straight.......

one of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.

i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).

when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.

Highly organised and decent people...... name me one religion that isn't! I seriously reccomend you go meet some muslims in a mosque, I guarantee you won't leave without offers of dinner or a cup of tea somewhere. Evangelicals are lovely people, my pal is doing charity work most nights somewhere in the city. A religion without these charachteristics is not going to survive...

As for high moral standards, you are basing that on leaving an assembly and seeing people in jeans with stubble and willing to say the F-word, that has nothing to do with morals. It is about being real and grown up.

The Watchtower are stuck in a bizzare 1950's utopian mindset. No swearing and skirts below the knee! Clean shaven and suits have nothing to do with morals or standards, it is more corporate than anything!! Again, a 50's mindset, hence the sexism so prevelant in the JW's.

The funny thing is, when you leave long enough and see pictures of myriads of JW's in cheap suits (we are all poor) walking outside an arena, they just look bizzare, crazy even and very, very cultish. I don't look at those pictures with fondness now, they look very strange, especially seeing kids in suits and dresses.

It is poignant for you to think of how the WT has you equating morals with shaving, swearing and wearing a suit. Politicians, bankers, business men and (american) religious leaders fit your appearance bill....but we all know it is nothing more than a thin venere.

Also, be honest with yourself, how moral really are the JW's? How many don't swear playing football? How many JW youth get smashed drunk in a club and have oral sex on the weekends, dressed like anyone else out that night? If you think 'none' you are far from reality! How many defend slavery and genocide in the bible? How many would let their children die without blood? How many agree that child rape/abuse is not an essential crime to report to the police unless leagally obliged? How many stand by the two witness rule? How many would shun their own children if the child decides they just don't believe it anymore? How many marriages hide violence, alcohol addiction and emotional abuse? How many JW's go door to door with a message that everyone elses religion is false, yet won't examine critisism of WT activity? How many JW's defend a faith that was fined 30 million dollars for allowing continued child abuse of a young girl? How many JW's pray for the destruction of most of humanity in order that they can take the dead persons land, build a cabin and stroke a lion........

Morals is not about suits and ties and saying 'sugar' instead of 'shit'.

why would they think that just because you no longer post on a chevy truck forum or a los angeles lakers forum the world would crumble around those still left there.

So the flood happened when exactly? All but 8 survivors on earth at 4000 b.c. right?........right?

Wouldn't this be evident SOMEHWERE in the history of civilisation? No?

Sure every people has stories of floods.....you know why? Floods exist! That is different to saying every people has a story of a GLOBAL flood.

Also people live on tectonic fault lines, that's where civilisations settled, it is where water flows due to the geography, that is where the soil is good because of the water, land is green because of the soil, animals eat and drink there because of the vegetation and water... that is also naturally where humans headed. Fault lines are prone to change, including...flooding. so sure every people has stories of floods, we always will have and always will see flood stories... the news doesn't go more than a month without a huge flood somewhere on earth.

i think she is a hypocrite and i bet she sells her invites to fornicators, or does she ask them if they are having sex before marrige, before she takes their money?.

i was never like this when i was a jw, it's even more disturbing that she is going to ask her elders what to do.

When the bible says death for men lying with men, it is refrering to gay people, when the bible says two men will be in one bed and one will be saved, they are just having a sleepover surely......back then that was customary, like slavery...the nice kind...and gentle infanticide....

I don't want to start a debate on these veses, in honesty I don't hold any truth, value or interest in them. I am simply pointing out the folly of anyone attempting to intepret anything from 2000 year old scrolls from the Jewish desert tribes and applying them to modern day Britain.

I agree Lisa, it is,hard to appease everyone especially when some have beliefs that would harm others.

I can respect a persons right to a belief and defend their right to have that belief, but if that belief reduces the quality of life or freedoms of another, then I believe that belief system should be restrained and legally harnassed to the believer alone.

The irony of the conservative christians to seek the freedom to shoot their gun and preach their homophobia, but also then to be demanding to deny other people their rights to choose..... is a contradiction in respect and of human perspective.

It simply comes down to the idea that they believe they are simply RIGHT, they are of and for god and so care not about anyone else. The world is for them and nobody else and their god is about to come prove it. The deepest irony being that this behaviour is as far from Jesus's example on earth as possible!

I am an atheist and straight, but I don't know how I would tackle Luke 17 anymore if I was a believer and homophobic. It is about being saved on jesus's return...

SEEK, a lot has been said since I replied. I don't want to skip on beyond what you said back to me,

Can I ask you to show me just one scientific theory based on no evidence please. I have spent 7 years in science now and I have not yet come across a theory with no evidence, it is actually quite oxymornic as a claim. But I don't want to dismiss your words, I am open minded to proof from you, of your claim. I appreciate you are not well versed in science, but if you believe a theory can exist without any evidence it is important to calrify it for you and anyone reading this thread.

So yes, please can you demonstrate just one scientific theory that has no evidence.......Just one.

Where are the adverts where a gay man drives a car and attracts another gay man? Where are the adverts where a woman is attracted to another woman drinking a can of diet coke?

The only agenda has been a straight agenda! People need to grow up, the media is simply catching up with reality.

For everyone that says the knife sharp words 'do what you want in your own home but I don't want my children to see it' are dumb as hell and damn cold hearted too! It is anotjer way of saying, I cant stop you I just dont want to look at you! Their children may well be gay and may well grow up feeling broken and abnormal IF WE DON'T represent reality in the media.

When black people were first allowed in the media there was outrage, there was talk of a black agenda. Come on, it is time to grow up!

Do you remember the age you decided to be straight and fancy the opposite sex? NO because nobody chooses the sex they are attracted to! It is not a choice! Some people choose to experiment, some on the spectrum of sexuality seek assurance for what attracts them, but nobody is doing wrong, nobody is being unnatural and nobody should judge....especially when they are ignorant of the most basic facts!

Not everyone is like you ...and those people that are different deserve representation too....it is not an agenda, we are simply putting right as a society, what has been wrong for FAR too long! If you are a white, straight, middle class person... you have already won the jackpot, life is statistically easier for you, but appreciate that you are not everyone!

15% of sheep are gay, is the intro to emmerdale farm part of the gay agenda.....? lol

As for marriage.... marriage as a concept DOES NOT BELONG TO CHRISTIANITY, it is an ancient pagan ceremony and belief that has nothing to do with judeao christian belief. It has been adopted through tradition! Marriage does not belong to the god of the bible, get some history books! It is older than he is!

ANY ILLUSTRATORS OUT THERE?

i am planning on doing some creative writing.

i want to start a web comic.

i attended a comic-con and sat in on a seminar about web comics, and i met some great local artists.

I have an epic story for a comic series that I would love to make, but likewise can't draw it. I used to sketch and draw all the time as a kid, I passed my art exams at high school level and it ended there really. I did some sketching whilst learning human anatomy and enjoyed it but time became an issue so I couldn't complete it.

I have a JW pal illustrator who is very liberal and good regarding the issue of me leaving so I hope to do something with him, but the theme of my comic is science and evolution (in space lol) so I am hesistant to do it and put him in a difficult situation. The ship is called 'The Beagle'..... lol.

As a side note, there is a UK JW in the north west who is a resl comic illustrator. He has drawn spiderman comic covers etc.

Interesting fact, when they ran the story of spiderman taking his mask of to the world, the UK JW illustrator got the contract to draw the cover and sneaked in some of his own facial features for spiderman's face...

I was never a big comic guy, but my JW pal was and he got me into a few. I miss him and our geek outs! I also miss dedicating an evening to a post bath mug of coffee and 2hr graphic novel session. I have the HUSH graphic novel still that my friend bought me as a gift and I also have Birthright, which is a great one too.

anyway, let me know how it goes...

Cass...... if someone walked amongst a pile of motor engineers and said "I think the future of motoring, you know the noisy thing you use spanners on in a car, well I think the future is the flux capacitor"..... they too would instantly realise that this person does not understand the basics of engineering, or the parameters of fiction and reality in engineering.

I really don't know a better way of mirroring back to you what it is like to to have a good understanding of science and read such posts as yours.

It isn't that I/we are smarter or better than you. You are ignorant of basic science information. I was also totally ignorant of the basics, right up until about 7 years ago when I got stuck into the sciences to see what was true and what wasn't. What embarassed me more was how much the JW's hold us back because most people know the basic sciences and were were raised devoid of the basic appreciation of chemistry, physics and biology.

I hope you find these books helpful if you truly want answers..
